  • Freshman On Track

  • Attendance

A student may not be absent more than nine (9) days during a semester in order to receive academic credit without a grade adjustment. The intent of this policy is to clarify that students may not miss more than nine (9) days in a semester other than the following exceptions:

    1. Illness substantiated by a doctor’s statement. In the event of a chronic or recurring illness, documentation by the student's doctor indicating the nature of the chronic or recurring condition will suffice for the doctor's statement required for each individual absence. Documentation of chronic or recurring illness will not extend beyond the end of the current school year. 2. School activities (per State Regulations).

  • Attendance - continued

    3. Suspension or change of placement for disciplinary reasons.

    4. Any absence deemed unavoidable by the school principal. When such a condition exists, the student and/or parents must petition (in writing within five (5) days following the student’s return to school) the building principal to request a waiver of penalty.

    5. At a parent’s request, a student’s absence from school to observe a recognized religious holiday and associated travel.

  • Attendance - continued

If students anticipate their absence will go beyond three days, they may request missed work through the assistant principal's offices.

Parents may be called in and asked to sign an attendance contract with an Administrator and Counselor. Failure to follow that contract could result in court charges.

  • Attendance – cont.

    Tardies

Students arriving more than 10 minutes late to class will be counted ABSENT. An excessive amount of tardies will have the same result as an excessive amount of absences.

No student will be admitted to class without a pass.

  • Attendance - continued

Studies show that students who attend school on a regular basis are more successful in school and the work force post graduation.

Students who fail to attend are more likely to drop out of school or become involved in unlawful activities.

  • Promoting to BAHS

Starting in the 2014-15 school year, all Freshman must pass both semesters of Math and English to be promoted to BAHS as a sophomore.

Students who fail the first semester in these classes will lose an elective and be placed in a credit recovery class to assist them in gaining the needed credit. Another option might be attending night school.

Beginning their sophomore year, student athletes should check with the BAHS counseling office for Division 1, 2, and 3 eligibility information. To become aware of the requirements, you can visit www.NCAA.org for additional information. Students should register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at the completion of their junior year.

Courses that are NCAA approved are marked with a “n” on the enrollment card at the BAHS level.

  • Grades

Grades Teachers are your best source for grade information. Counselors and AP’s do not have access to the most current grade. Please sign up for ParentConnect so that you can access the latest information 24/7. To do this, come to your student’s AP secretary, bring a photo ID, and get your log in code. You can then create your own password and share this information with whomever you wish. For those without Internet access, a paper grade check is available in their Attendance office. It is the student’s responsibility to come into the office to get the form, take it to every teacher, and return it home to you.

  • Contacting Counselors/AP’s

We are often not available for “drop in” conversations due to being involved in the daily operations of the school. Please call the appropriate secretary if you want to meet in person, or use email or voice mail to leave a message. We will call or email you back!

  • Athletics/Transportation/Child Nutrition

Athletic teams have already had their tryouts. No student can be added to an athletic team without a coach approval.

Transportation information will need to be obtained directly from the transportation department or check the baschools.org website.

Free/Reduced lunch forms can be filled out at the baschools.org website or obtained directly from child nutrition.

  • Welcome to High School!

While we do have things in place to assist your child in being successful at the Freshman Academy, ultimately it is the responsibility of your child to do their homework, attend school everyday, and follow the rules and procedures of Broken Arrow Public Schools. At this point, we are preparing them to be ready for the future world and the demands they shall face. Your child will say they have everything under control….they still need you! Check their grades…come to Open House…work with their teachers. Be involved!
