F.A.Q.’s Commonly asked questions by new students of Saint Paul’s Residence.
Frequently asked questions.
Question: Where are the community kitchens?
Answer: There are two - one on the fourth and first floor. The first floor has two
stoves and the fourth has one.
Question: Where is the workout room?
Answer: It is located on the second floor
Question: How much does it cost when you lose your room key?
Answer: You must go to the front desk and pay $20 for a new one.
Question: Do I need a desk chair or does the room have that too?
Answer: We provide a desk chair and two lamps for your room. But check out the
photos, and decide if you want to bring more lighting!
Question: What's on each floor?
Answer: 1st Floor - Front Desk, Kitchen + Lounge, Laundry
2nd Floor - Gym
3rd Floor - Movie Lounge
4th Floor - Kitchen + Lounge
5th Floor - RA Office
7th Floor - Study Lounge
Question: What are the things we're not allowed to have?
Answer: Candles, incense, animals/pets, weapons, martial arts equipment, hot
plates, deep fryers, appliances with open elements, drug paraphernalia,
hooks or nails, refrigerators or freezers, single serving glass containers,
or kegs.
Question: Where can I catch the shuttle bus?
Answer: Exit the building through side doors (west). Enter Saint Paul's university
near the bookstore and exit right away. The Route 1 shuttle bus stops in
front of the main steps (Pavillion Guigues Hall).
Question: Where is the nearest grocery store?
Answer: Isabella Street Loblaws across from Pretoria Bridge.
Question: Where is the nearest pharmacy?
Answer: Across the street from Saint Paul University at the corner of Main and
Hazel.
Question: Which path do I take to walk to school?
Question: What OC Transpo bus can I take to get to school?
Answer: Take the 5 which stops at both Main/Hazel and Main/Clegg.
Question: Do I dispose of my garbage and recycling? and if so where do I dispose of
it?
Answer: Take your garbage and recycling down to the west side of the building
through the side door. There are recycling boxes and garbage dumpsters
where you can sort your stuff out.
Question: How do I call other people's rooms in the residence?
Answer: Dial their room number + extension number. Ex: To call Mike, dial 2151.
Question: How do I sign out the movie lounge?
Answer: Go to the front desk, and sign it out.
Question: How do I sign out the Wii?
Answer: Go to the front desk with a piece of ID.
Question: Where are the mail boxes?
Answer: On the first floor, beside the kitchen/lounge.
Question: Who are the RA's? and how can I contact them?

Question: How do I get a Parking Pass for the year?
Answer: Go to the Multi-Services Centre at Saint Paul University
Question: How do I get a Parking Pass for overnight?
Answer: Go to the Park and Pay located in the far parking lot.
Question: What do you do when you're locked out?
Answer: Stay calm, it’s no big deal! Go to the front desk and tell a staff member
and they will program a card for you to use but be sure to return it ASAP.
Question: Where can I get plungers and vacuums?
Answer: Both are available at the front desk in exchange for a piece of ID
Question: How do I sign guests in and out?
Answer: Give a piece of ID at the front desk and sign your guest in. Health cards
will not be accepted. You have to be signed in before 2 AM.
Question: How many guests are you allowed?

Question: What is the process for move-in day?
Answer: You show up, you get your key, you complete a checklist of existing
damages, we help you move your stuff in, we give you some stuff.
Question: How does rez life coincide with all of the activities going on at the
University of Ottawa?
Answer: We plan our activities around u101 Week since the majority of our
residents are University of Ottawa students.
Question: What's your phone number?
Answer: (613) 236-3131 + Room Number + 1 (left) or +2 (right)

Answer: Dial 9 and then your number with area codes.
Question: How to check your voice mail?
Answer:
Question: What is the building's address?
Answer: The building's address is 201 Main Street (Postal Code - K1S 5T8)
Question: How do you do laundry?
Answer: If you're putting all your clothes together, set the temperature to cold by
setting it to "BRIGHT COLOURS". When in doubt, separate whites, darks
and colours. Also make sure you have properly loaded your card into the
machine and when using the dryer to check that the lint trap.
