Frequently Asked Assessment Questions 1. Which assessments are required by the state? After this year, the only required statewide summative assessment will be the West Virginia General Summative Assessment in grades 3-11 and ACT Compass in grade eleven. 2. When are the assessments given? The statewide testing window for the West Virginia General Summative Assessment opens April 1 and continues through June 24. 3. How many days will my student actually be taking the West Virginia General

Summative Assessment? The West Virginia General Summative Assessment consists of five to eight sessions for each student. Each untimed test session is scheduled for less than a half day. A typical testing timeframe is approximately two days per student. 4. How can I see examples of test questions? A sample test can be found by visiting http://wv.portal.airast.org/training-tests/. As a student takes the West Virginia General Summative Assessment, the questions are adapted to the level of knowledge. 5. When will I receive my student’s test results for the West Virginia General

For the West Virginia General Summative Assessment given in the spring of 2015, parents will receive student test results early in the next school year. Summative Assessment?

Individual student results on the West Virginia General Summative Assessment are presented in reports which are provided to parents. Educators and principals have access to student results in order to make instructional decisions to improve student understanding and knowledge. Note: Personally identifiable student information and/or data will NOT be given or sold to any vendor, government agency, or any other public or private entity.
