Q&A over skype with Dr Karl!

On Wednesday the 6th, the year 4/5 students from Mrs Morris and Mrs Nelson’s class had an amazing opportunity.

They participated in a Q&A over skype with Dr Karl! Dr Karl popularises science through his television and radio

shows across Australia and overseas and has currently written 45 books covering a range of scientific topics.

Students spent some time before the session brainstorming questions to ask Dr Karl. Questions included:

How do we know what dinosaurs sounded like? Do other planets have rocks and minerals similar to those on Earth? Will we ever see dinosaurs again? What is under the soil on Earth? Who taught the first teacher?

The session went for 45 minutes and the students (and staff!) were in awe at the range and depth of knowledge

Dr Karl has on a wide selection of topics. The year 4/5’s are now using the questions and answers from the session

to direct this term’s learning. The students would like to thank Dr Karl for giving them this fantastic opportunity.

Chicken Divas take the virtual stage at Freeling Freeling P-7 celebrated the 20th year of National Simultaneous StoryTime with the book

Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas by Lucinda Gifford. Yesterday, this book was read all around

Australia in schools, libraries, childcare centres and family homes.

Our students listened to the story read by their teachers and a number of virtual guests including Emma from the Wiggles and of course our very own Literacy Committee’s recorded performance. National Simultaneous Storytime shares our goal of promoting the importance of reading, sharing books with our children and of course the enjoyment gained from reading.

Both recordings can be accessed online. https://storyboxlibrary.com.au/login

A number of classes got together to follow with fun learning activities related to the book as well as some

creative lunchtime activities.
