Why Standard Based Grading? To communicate the level of achievement and progress

based on academic standards as well as conduct (separately)

SBG is all about ability-it gives a true picture of student’s ability (not behavior)

“Grades” serve a purpose – each test, lesson, activity serves a purpose

Makes teaching more intentional

Fosters rigor

A way to work “smarter” not harder
