Topic Overview

As a deafblind consumer himself, Bapin is the ideal presenter for shar-ing information with us on the tech-nology available to persons who are disabled. During this one day pres-entation, he will share insights from his own life, how he developed an interest in using technology (beginning with the Apple II E!) —and helped create accessibility for others. He will present an overview of tech-nology that helps persons who are deafblind communicate with others — via traditional methods such as sign-language and print on palm, to Braille displays, speech access, screen magnification, Relay and Video Relay Services, and the Deaf-Blind Communicator and Google Talk.

The Oregon Deafblind

Project

Bapin will share information about vari-ous Braille and speech computer sup-ports to use with both Windows 7 and Mac systems. He will share information about Braille displays and notetakers, and screen magnification. Another exciting part of Bapin’s presen-tation will be on mobile access devices, including the iPhone 4S and iPad2. He will also demonstrate the use of the Sendero Group GPS. Bapin uses and will provide information about various other really “cool” de-vices that help a person who is deafblind be independent. Share an exciting day with Bapin and the Oregon Deafblind Project!
