    >FADE IN:

    EXT. STREET - DAY

A row of terraced houses. On the horizon, smog rises from the

smokestacks of local industry. Littered throughout the street,on telegraph poles and lamp posts, are 'Missing' posters fornumerous local pets.

A delivery van pulls into frame. Emblazoned on the side is thelogo for an animal delivery company.

The van comes to a stop and the DELIVERY MAN steps out, a boxlabeled LIVE ANIMAL INSIDE under his arm.

He begins to walk along the path, turning through the gate ofone house in particular.

The Delivery Man rings the doorbell, turning to look around indisinterested anticipation, gently whistling to himself.

The door begins to unlock, catching the attention of theDelivery Man.

POV of the Delivery Man, looking through the glass window ofthe front door.

Gradually, the door swings open. The Delivery Man is greetedby nothing but a view of the hallway.

PAN DOWN to reveal a young CHILD, about nine-ten years old, peering out hesitantly from behind the front door.

Somewhat confused, the Delivery Man looks past the Child intothe house, in search of a more responsible and likelyrecipient.

The Child steps out into the doorway. The Child is seen wearing fairly typical clothing; a knitted jumper and jeans.

After finding no other suitable recipient, the Delivery Manreluctantly passes a clipboard to the Child.

The Childs signature reveals his name to be Franklin.

Franklin passes the clipboard back to the Delivery Man. The

Delivery Driver catches a glimpse of a suspicious stain on thecuff of Franklin's jumper.

Franklin promptly hides the stain, maintaining unphased eyecontact with the Delivery Man.

Cautiously, the Delivery Man passes the box to Franklin.

Franklin peers through the holes in the box, then slinks backinside, promptly closing the door in the face of the DeliveryMan.

    CUT TO:

    INT. HALLWAY - DAY

The walls and floor are coated in a gaudy floral pattern. Asingle, yellow light bulb just about manages to illuminate thehall.

The silhouette of the Delivery Man can be seen through thefrosted glass in the door. He pauses in confused hesitation, eventually returning to his van. Out of frame, his van can beheard leaving in the distance.

Scattered across the floor are the miscellaneous scraps of atypical family home. Footwear, broken toys and unopened post.

Among the post is a collection of beauty magazines and fashioncatalogues, subscribed to by Franklins MOTHER.

Family photographs adorn the walls, Franklin curiously absentin most of them.

Franklin begins to make his way down the hallway, steppingover and around all manner of mess scattered across thecarpet, occasionally stumbling along the way.

Franklin pauses before passing the living room. He cautiouslypeers through the door.

In the living room is his FATHER, mindlessly watchingtelevision, a cigarette gradually burning down between hisfingers.

Certain that his Father isnt aware of the delivery, Franklinproceeds to creep past the living room, down the hallway.

Cut to: wide shot, Franklins figure silhouetted by a shaft oflight coming from downstairs.

The door begins to swing open, Franklin silhouetted in thedoorframe.

He enters the room and steadily descends into the cellar.

Rain begins to pour, rattling the windows and softening thelight.

The door slams shut, closed by Franklins Mother as she passesdown the hallway.

Franklin clears a space on what appears to be a desk and

places the box under an angle poise lamp.

    It begins to rain outside.

He begins to rummage through various drawers, cabinets andboxes, pulling out miscellaneous items, including tape, beltstraps and cabling, and placing them one after the other onthe desk.

The final item to land on the desk is a hefty stack of miscellaneous books and magazines.

Franklin maneuvers a chair up to the desk.

-Franklin moves into the darkness on the other side of the

    room.

-The rustling of desperate searching can be heard.

-CLOSE UPS, one after the other, of Franklin placing variousitems on the trolley. They are displayed in a way that doesntexplicitly explain their actual use, e.g. The handles ofeyelash curlers shot to imply they are surgical scissors orforceps.

-Out from the shadows appears Franklin, pushing a trolleycovered in a sheet.

-Franklin maneuvers the trolley parallel to the chair.

-He swiftly removes the sheet, though the objects remainobscured by the light and low angle of the camera.

-The sheet is spread and fastened across the chair and the Animal.

-Franklin removes a magazine from the stack and opens it uponthe desk. His hand is seen circling unseen images on thepages.

-Franklin turns to the trolley and begins to inspect theobjects. He ultimately decides upon, what at first glanceappears to be, some form of ocular speculum.

-Holding the item, Franklin leans in towards the face of the Animal. The camera pans behind the chair from one side to the

other, as sounds of distress and struggling can be heard.

-ZOOM IN to the panicked, blinking and rapidly searching eyeof the Animal.

-Franklin returns to the desk. The speculum is placed downnext to the magazine as pages of the magazine are turned.

-A pair of scissors is retrieved from the trolley.

-ZOOM OUT from a dark viscous fluid, being gently stirred, asthe various bottles are emptied in gradually.

-CUT TO Franklins hand turning on a tap. He rinses the

    scissors under the water.

-ZOOM IN to water rushing down the drain.

-CLOSE UP of fluid dripping down the sheet, leaking fromaround the collar.

-The fluid flows down the sheet and pools on floor aroundFranklins Feet.

-CLOSE UP of Franklins feet. He walks away from the chair, the fluid sticking to the underside of his shoes and spreadinglike syrup with each step.

-With each step, he trails a cable across the floor, from thechair to a plug socket high upon the wall.

-Picks up the length of the cable and walks towards a tallhooded device in the corner of the room.

-CLOSE UP of the cable being plugged into the base of the

    device.

-Franklin maneuvers the rickety device towards the chair.

-The chair is reclined back to its upright position and thetrolley is shunted aside.

-CLOSE UP inside the device. Three rings begin to illuminate aharsh orange colour, as a series of blades creak and grind asthey begin to rotate.

-CUT BACK to the cellar, the sheet on the chair rustling and

buckling as the Animal struggles beneath.

-The device begins to power down. CUT TO CLOSE UP inside thedevice once again. The blades slow to a stop and the glowingrings fade out.

    END OF MONTAGE:

    >FADE TO BLACK:

    INT. CELLAR - DAY

In the darkness, the chair can be heard rotating and rollingacross the floor. Further sounds of rustling, strapsunbuckling and gloves being removed are heard.

The lights around a large mirror are illuminated. In thereflection, the Animal is revealed to be a GUINEA PIG. AGuinea Pig with a complete makeover.

Franklin has beautified the animal, providing it with anelaborate hairstyle and a striking complexion, along with a

    manicure and curled lashes.

With the room now brightly lit, it can be seen that the cellaris in fact, Franklins amateur beauty salon, cluttered withvarious outdated and obsolete beauty appliances that Franklinhas passionately given a new life.

The items on the trolley are revealed to be beautification

tools, including eyelash curlers, hairdressing scissors andcuticle nippers. It is revealed that the device is nothing

    more than a hooded hairdryer.

The walls are adorned with all sorts of hair and beautyrelated paraphernalia, including several photographs of hisprevious clients, posters of icons such as Vidal Sassoon andYves Saint Laurent, and photographs of fashion capitals, including London, New York and Milan, torn straight from hisMothers travel guides.
