Building and nurturing a faith community through Worshiping, Welcoming, Growing, and Serving.

Welcome to Worship at St. John’s! St. John’s is a worshiping community for everyone. Whether this is your first time here or if you

have lost count, thank you for coming! Communion is served weekly at St. John’s, and all are

welcome to receive it; wine, grape juice, and gluten-free wafers are available. Following the

service, coffee, doughnuts, and spritely conversation can be found in the fellowship hall.

Welcome!

A Year of Growing

Confession and Forgiveness In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are

hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may

perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another. Most merciful God,

we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned

against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have

left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our

neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your

ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Amen.

God, who is rich in mercy, loved us even when we were dead in sin, and made us alive

together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. In the name of ☩Jesus Christ, your sins

are forgiven. Almighty God strengthen you with power through the Holy Spirit, that Christ

may live in your hearts through faith.

Amen.

Hymn of Praise

Prayer of the Day

Fulfillment of the prophesies, with scripture and water you claim people as your own.

Claim us with water and the word, so that we may rejoice in the life given to us

through the gift of the Holy Spirit, for the sake of the one whose spirit lives in us,

Jesus Christ. Amen.

...in faith

Our worship leader

heralds us into song

proclaiming that right

here, right now This(!) is

the feast of victory for

our God.

Then, drawing directly

from the description of

heaven in the book of

Revelation, our voices are

joined to that heavenly

throng as we sing with

them, “Worthy is the Lamb

who was slain, to receive power

and wealth and wisdom and

might and honor and glory

and blessings!”

(Revelation 5:12)

Not only is this song a

powerful proclamation of

what God has

accomplished in Christ,

but also what now Christ

is accomplishing in us

today.

Our joint response to

singing of God’s grace

and saving work for each

of us, we then enter

corporate prayer.

A Word for Children

Psalm 22:25-31 (read responsively by verse)

From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will pay before those who fear him. The poor shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the LORD. May your hearts live forever! All the ends of the earth shall remember and turn to the LORD; and all the families of the nations shall worship before him. For dominion belongs to the LORD, and he rules over the nations. To him, indeed, shall all who sleep in the earth bow down; before him shall bow all who go down to the dust, and I shall live for him. Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the LORD, and proclaim his deliverance to a people yet unborn, saying that he has done it.

The Reading: Acts 8:26-39 Pew Bible p. 892 The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Sermon Pastor Mark

Hymn of the Day All Who Believe and Are Baptized ELW 442

Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Offering Prayer

Blessed are you,

O Lord our God, maker of all things. Through your goodness you have blessed us

with these gifts. With them we offer ourselves to your service and dedicate our lives to

the care and redemption of all that you have made, for the sake of him who gave

himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

...in our relationships

The Offering is an important part of Christian worship; a moment when we share God’s abundance by giving back to God what God has first given to us: our selves, time, talents, and finances.

Thank you for all the ways you live by God’s grace, sharing from what you have to empower the mission and ministry to which God has called us as St. John’s Lutheran Church.
