The Augustine Institute CD Program Why Be Catholic by Patrick Madrid For those who aren’t Catholic, it may not be apparent why one should embrace the Catholic Faith. In this inspiring presentation, bestselling author Patrick Madrid gives compelling biblical and historical reasons for why he embraces the faith as a lifelong Catholic. He shares valuable insights into the beauty
of the Catholic Church and its claim to contain the fullness of the deposit of faith given by Christ. Stop by the kiosk in the Narthex to pick up your copy and spread the faith by sharing it with others. Suggested donation is $4.00.

Prayer Leaders Needed In May! The month of May is a special time for Catholics to pay homage to our Blessed Mother Mary, therefore throughout May, all are invited to pray the rosary in Church after all weekend Masses. In order to do this, we need many prayer leaders. You may choose to lead the rosary once during the month, or if you regularly attend a particular Mass you can volunteer to lead the rosary throughout the month of May after that Mass. Rosaries and prayer pamphlets will be available. Please contact Lynn Wilson at (630) 232-0124, ext. 112 or [email protected] to volunteer.

Women’s Catholic Book Club Join us Tuesday, May 15 at 9:00 AM in the Cry Room as we discuss Champions of the Rosary by Fr. Donald H. Calloway, MIC. (Several copies are available at the Geneva Public Library).
“In Champions of the Rosary, Fr. Calloway has written what is probably the most comprehensive book ever published on the rosary. The author deftly negotiates the complexities of the story of the rosary, weaving the historical, theological, and devotional strands into a veritable masterpiece of scholarship and piety. This book should turn every one of its readers into a champion of the rosary!”
ALL ARE WELCOME TO JOIN THE DISCUSSION!
Children are welcome too! Light breakfast snacks will be provided.
Gather at 9:00 AM and discussion starts at 9:30 AM.
Please contact Donna Zander at [email protected] or (630) 209-5186 if you are interested in joining us this month.

Food Pantry News Throughout the month of April, the St. Peter Community Food Pantry requests donations of canned fruit and toothbrushes! These items, as well as any non-perishable donation, can be placed in the donation drop boxes located at either entrance of the narthex. Monetary donations are also appreciated (specific drop boxes for cash and checks are available in the narthex).
You pray for the hungry. Then you feed them.
That’s how prayer works.
- Pope Francis -
Blessing of the Unborn We will offer a blessing for mothers, fathers and their unborn children to sanctify the period of pregnancy or adoption, to strengthen them, to pray for the health of the mother and child and for a safe delivery. The ceremony lasts about 20 minutes and may be received more than once. Siblings, grandparents and other relatives are welcome. The next blessing will be held Saturday, April 28 at St. Peter Church after the 4:30 PM Mass.
Rosary Playgroup Children play while moms pray! Rosary Playgroup offers an opportunity for moms to come together, with their children, and pray the rosary. We meet once a month during the school year for about an hour of fellowship and prayer. The grace received from praying the rosary is very real and needed! During the summer, we will meet weekly at a park to pray the Rosary together.
The next Rosary Playgroup is on Thursday, May 3rd from 9:30-10:30 AM at Renee Toups' home (432 Division Street, Geneva). Contact Renee Toups with any questions at (630) 402-1882 or [email protected].
April 22 - Fourth Sunday of Easter Today, we celebrate
“Good Shepherd Sunday” and reflect on Jesus’ love and care for us.
This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to be “Good Shepherds” to the hearts of the poor, to those who live in fear and doubt, loneliness and dread.
Have you considered answering the call to “help the poor find forgiveness and healing in their life” by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP)? If you would like to join, please call the SVdP Hotline at (630) 232-0124 Ext. 310, and leave
your name and contact information.
We will reach out to you with open arms!

St. Peter Friendship Garden Volunteer Opportunities April is upon us, and God’s green gifts are starting to spring forth from the earth! The leaders of St. Peter Friendship Garden are excited for the 2018 growing season. Our next group work day is Saturday, May 12, from 10:00-11:30am. We plan to have our annual garden blessing administered at this time. If you’d like to donate plants, please drop them off at the parish office by May 11.
We welcome fresh new faces to help us grow local produce for those in need. In addition to our group work days, there are many other ways parishioners can choose to donate their time and resources:
"Adopt" the garden for one week We need volunteer families or individuals to help weed, water, harvest, and deliver produce to local shelters. Sign up for one or multiple weeks throughout the season. Donate plants/seeds Small donations help reduce the funding we need to raise for our garden to be a success. Typical donations include a few packets of seeds or starter plants. Organically grown varieties are preferred. Contact garden leaders for what is needed. Financial donation While we strive for donated materials as often as possible, some additional monetary funds are needed for both small and capital intensive items such as tools, raised bed materials, and watering supplies. Please drop donations off at the Parish Office or in the collection basket at Mass. Clearly mark “Friendship Garden” on check memo and/or envelope. Join a group work day (typically on a Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon) We set up 3-4 days each year where many volunteers get together to share fellowship and teach one another how to make the garden grow. This is a great experience for the kids too! Deliver produce to local shelters If gardening is not your preference, we need volunteers to deliver our harvest. Most donations go to the St. Peter Community Food Pantry, but at times we need some help delivering to other area pantries. Serve as a substitute We familiarize substitutes with basic garden duties so they can step in when assigned volunteers are unable to work. Rebuild the beds A few of our garden beds are in need of a little TLC. If you’re handy and would like to help us with the rebuilding process, please let us know.
For additional information, please contact garden leader, Jeanine McMillen at [email protected] or (262) 442-7093.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS
On Thursday, April 12, our St. Peter RCIA family volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in Aurora. Together with a number of other groups, we joyfully helped hand-pack over 5,500 nutritious meals that will be shipped to hungry children all over the globe. As Catholics, we are ALL called to love and serve God by loving and serving His people. It is what we do! Thanks be to God that He used our hands to help accomplish His work!

Cry Out To The Shepherd By Father Bobby Gonnella, Assistant Diocesan Vocations Director During my time in the seminary, my class had the opportunity to take a trip to Ireland to learn about the Church and to experience the way Catholics live their faith in that country. One of the places we visited, was an ancient monastery, tucked away in a very rural location. While we were touring the ancient site, we could hear the sound of a sheep that had gotten caught in the woods, separating itself from the rest of the flock. Even though we were all familiar with the sound a sheep makes, this sound was different. It was a sadder, more pitiful sound, so much so we would have tried to help it if we could have gotten to it. As we were walking and wishing we could help the sheep, one of my classmates said, “That’s how we sound.” He meant when we pray to God, our prayers probably sound similar to Him as the cries of the lost sheep sounded to us on that day. It was a very striking moment for me, and his insight has stayed with me ever since. Jesus reveals Himself to us as the Good Shepherd. He is a shepherd not only willing to come looking for us when we cry out to Him, but also to lay down His life for us. All He asks is we simply follow Him and do our best not to go astray. However, even when we do stray, He is always willing to answer our cries and save us. When it comes to discerning a vocation, a big part of the process is crying out to Jesus over and over again. In His shepherd’s heart, He cannot bear to let us stay lost when we call out to Him. We must continually go to Him and ask Him for help in knowing the plan He has for us. He always answers those prayers and brings us back into the fold when we are open to the help He has for us. Keep going to Jesus every day as the Good Shepherd and let Him be the one to pull you out of the weeds in your life and set you on the path He has planned for you.
FROM THE DIOCESE
St. Gall Catholic Church Seeks Youth Minister St. Gall Catholic Church, in the Diocese of Rockford, is pleased to announce a search to hire a Youth Minister. While the scope of this position is still being discerned, it will be part-time. The new youth minister will work with middle school and high school youth to help them grow as disciples of Jesus Christ, strongly rooted in their Catholic faith.
We have found the need to restructure our Faith Formation and Youth Ministry department because the demands of our two RE programs (family-based Joyful Sundays and traditional weekly Wednesday classes) and the sacramental preparation for First Communion and Confirmation make it difficult to also cultivate youth ministry offerings with the focus that we need in today's culture. Therefore, the current Director of Faith Formation and Youth Ministry will shift to a more exclusive focus on Religious Education and the sacramental preparation programs.
The new Youth Minister will work with parents and youth to discern programs to help them live out their faith at St. Gall. This may include retreats, days of recollection, excursions, mission trips, meetings to reflect on our Catholic faith and discuss how it can be lived out, and other fun opportunities to build meaningful community for Catholic youth.
The new Youth Minister will also continue to work very closely with the Faith Formation and the Confirmation preparation programs, with one common vision of catechesis, evangelization, and discipleship.
A job description is available upon request. Please contact Fr. DiTomo at [email protected].
