Practical and Actionable Outcomes Assessment: 2017 Survey of Student Scheduling Preferences Applied to 2020 Microbiology Course OfferingsDr. Jeff Mans

Anecdotal feedback from microbiology and biology students regarding their preferred course delivery (on ground vs hybrid) prompted me to create and pilot a survey instrument to quantify student preferences and course availability of science classes. As Presidential Fellow and with support from FSCJ administration, this survey was deployed in Fall Term 2017, and was expanded to cover all LAS disciplines. More than 3,000 students responded to an online survey, which asked for students to indicate their preferred course delivery methods, locations, semester lengths and other factors. The results of this survey will be presented and suggested interpretations and potential uses of this data will be highlighted. This project demonstrates that an Outcomes Assessment and Continuous Improvement mindset can be used to address relevant questions of personal interest in the classroom, support students and their learning process, and inform institutional decisions that have a broad impact across the College.AFPD1315 / Course No. 5574 / ATC, T-111

Session 1: 10-10:50 a.m. Orgriculture: Turning Locusts into HarvestsDr. Erin Richman

“Orgriculture” re-imagines workplace culture as a living, working organic system; an organizational agriculture — complete with locusts, storms, sunlight, climate, soils and cycles of harvest and dormancy. In this session, learn how to reap — and harvest — the most from YOUR Orgriculture. Are you a locust, or a fertilizer in the orgriculture? Do you know what nutrients are required to nourish growth of the organization? Do you know how to plant seeds? You definitely play a role in the larger organic system — everyone does. So, what can the whole culture DO to yield bumper crops and have plenty to celebrate at its seasonal festivals? Dr. Richman shares insights from her leadership experience using an ‘orgriculture’ philosophy, and explains how this philosophy drives outcomes for students’ and organizational success. Have a little fun, and learn more in this session about how to transform your workplace into a thriving orgriculture.AFPD1317 / Course No. 5577 / ATC, T-112

Academic Service Learning: Teaching with Creativity, Community and CareDr. Jametoria Burton

Considered a high-impact educational practice by the American Association of Colleges and Universities, academic service learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with academic goals and critical reflection to enrich the student learning experience and teach civic responsibility. Service learning occurs within College courses in collaboration with faculty and differs from traditional community service, which typically occurs outside a classroom context. By design as experiential learning, academic service learning speaks directly to FSCJ’s values of creativity and excellence in teaching and learning as students are immersed in service relative to a course, program and/or field of study both directly and indirectly while straddling the rung of the career continuum. Experience how service learning can ignite faculty course content, invigorate student creativity and mobilize student motivation to learn and serve their community through an academic lens!AFPD1323 / Course No. 5584 / ATC, T-241

What Happens After MigrationBarbara Moyer

Part of the transition to the Canvas learning management system is course migration. This can be achieved in a few ways and the Office of Training and Development, coupled with the Educational Technology team, offers a number of courses to help with this effort. But what happens after migration? Migrating a course from Blackboard to Canvas is not a streamlined process. Faculty have experienced a variety of issues such as broken links, missing content, and mismatching of modules and topics. This course will guide you through the best practices for organizing and updating your course after migration. AFPD1329 / Course No. 5659 / ATC, T-102
