PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE-Submitted by Carol Trommler, President

We are living through some very difficult times in our country right now and I am sure there are many of our neighborswho are having a difficult time. There is not only the threat of more strikes against us here in the US, but additionalthreats as we think about travel, vacations, our remote family and business associates. There is no easy answer to any ofthis confusion except to be aware, vigilant and watchful of our families and neighbors. As we move into the holidayseason and the end of 2001, let us take time to live our lives, enjoy one another, and always keep a positive thought forour government, our church and ourselves.

CHARITY - We have a wonderful neighborhood in Four Seasons and together we can help those who are less fortunate. There is so much being done right now for the victims of September 1 1th that some of the local charities are suffering.Since this is a diverse neighborhood with many different backgrounds and faiths, I would like to select two charities, ofyour choice, to present a food gift to during the Thanksgiving holiday. Please submit your suggestion and we will selecttwo and begin the food drive the first week of November. Submit your charity to: Carol at 503-641-1835.

LETTERS -Last month I mentioned letters and calls of support for our Board and how much they are appreciated. It isobvious that we cannot print all the letters but we wish to acknowledge them and say thank you. In our October Boardmeeting a resident read a letter to us and we appreciate the support for our efforts.

UNITED we stand -DIVIDED we fall - this neighborhood has always been about the people who live here, theaesthetics of the area and the value of our property. As long the association has been in place, there have been volunteersto run it. For the majority of the time the volunteers have been the same people for very long periods of time because notmany people want to make a commitment that demands the hours that this job does.

Recently we have been on notice that the Board is old. The feeling by some of the newer residents is that they can pickup and take the association into a younger more family friendly neighborhood. This feeling and these blatant statementshave caused a divide in the neighborhood - it is my belief that this division could ultimately destroy what we have here.

As we look to the future let us remember-with age comes wisdom. With longevity come relationships and commitmentand success and history. With a true team of seasoned volunteers you have a group that commits, follows-through, askand listens, and reaches out to their peers- and, they do not care the age of the neighbor - they only look to create aneighborhood rich with beauty, care and high property values. Please look around - some will tell you that your Board isout dated, doing a poor job and needs to be replaced. If this division continues in this neighborhood we are at risk. Let’sall try to mend fences, and remember what neighbor really means. Let’s work together to keep Four Seasons theneighborhood we have spent 30 years developing.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM -Prepared by Bert Farrar, Vice President

On October 10,h we had Mark Hyde from the Beaverton Police Department give us an overview of the NeighborhoodWatch Program. Mark is an old friend of Four Seasons residents, having appeared to speak a number of times over theyears. He knows Four Seasons well and is always entertaining, informative and reassuring about the efforts of theBeaverton Police’s resolve to combat crime in the City of Beaverton.

Mark explained the essence of a Neighborhood Watch Program as individuals simply being aware of theirsurroundings, taking common sense precautions (i.e., lock your house door if you are leaving) and knowing whoyour immediate neighbors are. For example, if you know your immediate neighbor and they tell you they are going onvacation then when a truck parks out front and men start loading furniture, you need to call the police to have themchecked out!

What a Neighborhood Watch Program isn’t is having a group of people patrol the area on foot each day trying tocatch criminals and a phone tree that has 400 people on it sitting by the phone waiting to call or be called aboutthe latest rumor making the rounds of the neighborhood, A good Neighborhood Watch Program for an area is simplyhaving all the people be willing to put forth a little effort to be a good neighbor. It sounds so simple folks but that reallyis the essence to your being able to fight crime in our neighborhood.

Depending on your individual level of interest there are educational programs that can heighten your awareness aboutrime and what you can do to help. One of these is sponsored by the Beaverton Police Department and is called the

Home Safe Program. You can call Sue Hayes at 503-526-2562 and arrange for someone to come out to your home andgive you tips on how you can make your home safer and less attractive to criminals. For non-emergencies you can besure to use the non-emergency number for the police which is 629-0111. By doing something as simple as writing thisnumber down for future reference you can make sure that you don’t take up time that somebody in a life and deathsituation desperately needs. Currently, the Beaverton Police are instituting a program to combat mail theft. The criticalelements of this program are to not put up your red flag to advertise the fact that you have outgoing mail. If you haveimportant mail that consists of checks to pay a bill, etc., you are encouraged to mail these materials at the Post Office or asecure mail facility. Mark Hyde will provide us with a number that you can call if you want to stop the flood of creditcard applications you receive in the mail. We will publish it in the next Newsletter.

Folks, we were reassured that Four Seasons is not a high crime area! The biggest problem that we and the rest ofBeaverton’s neighborhoods face is mail theft. M. G. Tabrum and myself have prepared a report already distributed in apast newsletter that outlines ideas and the steps necessary for addressing the mailbox issue with your neighbors.Hopefully, you have found that helpful.

Additional information that you will Find helpful will be appearing in future newsletters. Please give them your attention.

SUMMER-END FOUR SEASONS BBQ -Submitted by Nick Bordier, Chairman of Social Committee

The final summer BBQ in August was an enjoyable close to the summer. 40+ people, comprised of approximately 15Four Seasons households, attended the end of the summer BBQ. It was a great opportunity to fellowship with folks in theneighborhood. We had a diverse mix of people, from Board and social committee members to 30 year residents of FourSeasons to those families who have only recently moved into the neighborhood.

I want to thank the Board for sponsoring the 2 summer BBQs this summer and Joyce for arranging the pool monitors, thesocial committee and other neighbors who helped arrange the events, and to all of you who attended the BBQs thissummer. Thank you.

Mark your calendars for upcoming Four Seasons events: the Halloween Party on Sunday, October 28, and the HolidayParty on Sunday, December 9.
