What is it? This degree level course is delivered online using a varietyof technology-enhanced learning methods. It has been designed anddeveloped in consultation with industry professionals for those whowork in the cultural and creative industries.

Who is it for? Participants will be employed in any type of cultural orcreative business, large or small. They might also be a freelanceprofessional or run their own business. It is likely that they will have agreat deal of previous relevant industry experience and this can betaken into account to potentially reduce the length of time of study.

This course is designed to equip participants with businessknowledge and to develop entrepreneurial skills and competencies.The focus is on acquiring higher level skills which will be of practicaluse in an increasingly competitive business environment.

What will participants get out of it? Those who successfully completethe course will gain the Creative and Cultural Industries FoundationDegree, validated by Leeds Metropolitan University.

COURSE CONTENTHow is it delivered? Participants will engage in work-based learningwhich is underpinned by academic study. Learning will cover a broadrange of subject areas which will be personalised to the individualbusiness and the participant’s role in the business. They will haveaccess to one-to-one tutor support, together with mentoring supportfrom an industry professional. Learning will be supported by teachingstaff using a range of methods including live online lectures andtutorials, podcasts and discussion forums.

How are participants assessed?Much of the assessment will considerthe participant’s performance within their place of work. Various otherassessment methods will be used, including project assessment andstaged tasks.

How long will the programme last? Individual modules can becompleted in 10 weeks, however, the length of time theparticipant will commit to completing the course is flexible as thelearning timetable can be organised to fit in with the participant’sworking week.

ENROLMENT DETAILSWhen does the programme start? This is a flexible programme withstart dates in September, January and March.

Are there any entry requirements? Participants should beemployed within the creative and cultural industries, and havean employer recommendation.

They will be required to complete a detailed application form andshould also be able to evidence the following:

1. Educated to GCSE standard in literacy, numeracy and IT.

2. If English is not your first language, participants will also need aminimum IELTS score of 6.0

Participants should also have unrestricted access to a PC and internetconnection in order to complete their studies.

Howmuch will it cost? The degree is part-funded by the HigherEducation Funding Council of England. Employer’s contribution is,therefore, £695 for 60 credits per year. Please contact us at NewcastleCollege for more information.

OurAccreditation of Prior Experience and/or Learning (APEL) processenables participants to gain credit towards their course for priorqualifications and/or learning. Decisions about the type and amountof credit may be based on certificates gained, which demonstratethat learning has been assessed. Or we may take into accountlearning from experience that is considered worthy of credit. In allcases, credit is awarded for learning that can be demonstrated, notfor the experience itself. CREATIVE AND CULTURALWithin this theme you will be able to examine the contribution ofcreative processes, new technologies and innovation on cultural andcreative businesses. You will also be able to consider the relationshipbetween business communities within the context of thecontemporary creative landscape and explore the regenerativeimpact of creative enterprise on communities.

FINANCIALParticipants will evaluate investment opportunities and interpretfinancial data that will help in planning for business opportunities ina creative or cultural organisation. Participants will learn how toapply a range of tools used in business planning in response to theseopportunities and develop the presentation of a tender whichresponds to needs.
