• Clear Title

We chose the font and title based on a number of reasons. The font is both clear and easy to read whilst also linking with the connotation of creativity always playing a part throughout history. Due to the posters we had looked at previously we understood the title needed to be bold and draw the audiences eye . In order to enhance this we decided to incorporate the foreground image of the chainsaw into the title; substituting the ‘I’ for the blade. This idea does make the title more intriguing, however it may have been better to have the full title on its own, as the image possibly looks slightly out of place when linked within the font. This may then threaten an audiences interest in the product (AIDA) as a result of areas being unclear to them. Furthermore the thickness of the font as well as the solid black, is quite harsh. A thinner font using a more grey colouring may have been better suited to the poster.

• Focal Image that attracts the audience

The focal image in our main poster clearly demonstrates us using this convention. The hung chainsaw connotes the varied and sometimes abstract ways in which creativity is able to be expressed. Furthermore it links with the documentary in terms of representing the workman and tools depicted. Through only using a single image the viewer is allowed to focus and concentrate on the simplicity and basic ideology that creativity can come from anything. On the other hand we could have broke this convention, including multiple images scattered on the poster, as a way to connote the variety of ideas and viewpoints surrounding the topic. Shown in the production by the interviewees being from different backgrounds and careers. The image also create an interest linking with AIDA, due to it being rather bold. This can then inspire the audience to want to view the product more.

• Institutional information displayed in clear block of text

We followed this convention due to the fact we feel it helps to inform the audience on the production side of the film. Additionally it enables us to credit the work that goes into the documentary and the people that are featured within it e.g. Toby Moores. Moreover it makes our poster appear more professional and realistic whilst establishing it in the documentary genre. The idea of all 3 of our products being professional was key, especially as we wanted to develop synergetic products. The positioning of the institutional information was also both effective and conventional; it does not become the focal point of the whole poster however it is there if the audience desires to read it.. The use of the black font on the off white background makes the information stand out further.

For us the reviews and awards part of the poster was important. As they enhance the credibility of the poster and attract the audience. There positioning is not central meaning they do not distract from the primary focus however they connote to the audience the documentary is supported and relevant in its subject.. Furthermore it fits conventions of independent productions using festivals and awards in order to enhance their exposure. Seeing other peoples validation of the product can allow an audience to desire it more, being more inclined to view it.

We incorporated a tagline into our production ‘How Creative Minds Drive Creative Hands’ this is effective and conventional as it helps to market the documentary to the potential audience. It explains the subject we’ll be discussing exploring the minds of the creative and what it means to them. Moreover it is short and simple, repeating words that are important and key. This vital for it to be memorable. Furthermore the tagline can incorporate means end theory by promoting a creative ideology inspiring the audience to pursue a more creative outcome by viewing the product. Whilst coming up with a tagline we struggled with ideas to really summarise the documentary. Our first idea of ‘Genius Mind in Crafted Hand’ initially was considered to be suitable. Under further scrutiny we established it was unclear and didn’t actually convey a message. We then continued to brainstorm, settling on our final one. More thought could have gone into the tagline to begin with, as it was a passing thought. However when we applied ourselves we managed to work it out, though more time could have been spent on other areas if we had focussed more in the beginning.
