Pacific BioLogics Pty Ltd commissioned the
1.8-tonne capacity Toyota 7-FBE18 battery
electric forklift in February 2012 at its Kippa-Ring
warehouses in Brisbane’s north.
The battery electric Toyota forklift replaces a
diesel machine from another manufacturer.
Warehouse manager Alex Boyd said changing
to the battery electric forklift had eliminated fuel
spills and fumes, and reduced noise.
“One of the two warehouses on this site has
an office inside, and switching to the electric
machine means people can work in the office
without the noise disturbance that the previous
forklift created,” he said.
“The new Toyota forklift also offers increased
safety, ease of use and convenience, including a
side-shift feature that we didn’t have before.
“It’s a neat bit of gear, as the saying goes; simple
to operate and easy to recharge – just plug-in
and the charger takes care of itself.”
Mr Boyd said the new Toyota forklift’s primary
role is lifting sandbags into a cradle, and then
lifting the combined 1300kg of the bag and
cradle over a hopper.
It is also used to unload chemicals from trucks,
as part of Pacific BioLogics’ expansion into the
rural wholesale market.

area manager (sales and rental) Adam Gates
said Pacific BioLogics initially enquired about
replacing the old diesel forklift with an internal-
combustion machine running on LPG, to further
to company’s green image.
“Further study led us to offer a battery electric
machine,” he said.
“We gave the customer a ‘whole of life
ownership’ comparison between LPG and
Battery Electric, with tables to help calculate
the total cost of a unit, including fuel versus
battery usage/consumption, operating costs, and
recommendations for the battery and charger.
“Based on that information, Pacific BioLogics
chose the battery electric forklift.”
Pacific BioLogics Pty Ltd was founded in October
1999 as a subsidiary of Clarke, a 65-year-old
family-owned company that has been at the
forefront of mosquito control for many decades.
It supplies to local and state government, pest-
control operators, mines, resorts, retail and many
others in the private sector.
In 2005 the company diversified into the rural
wholesale market.

Toyota and Lexus hybrids since 2001.
This is a landmark year for the development
of Prius in Australia with the introduction of
the compact Prius c city car and the seven-
seat Prius v alongside the established, third-
generation Prius hatchback.
Expansion of Prius into a family of vehicles
makes the environmental benefits of Toyota’s
Hybrid Synergy Drive® technology available
to a wider range of customers, with different
motoring needs.
In Australia, Toyota has also launched the
second generation of its locally built Camry
Hybrid, the most powerful yet fuel-efficient car
in the Camry range.
Toyota around the world is aiming to reduce
carbon emissions across its manufacturing
and sales processes. It is also working
towards conserving natural resources through
reuse and recycling of materials.
Toyota’s Australian operations are focused on
reducing waste and energy consumption.
The company’s long-term approach towards
sustainable operations is reflected in the
current building of a new engine plant that will
provide fuel-efficient engines for Camry and,
for the first time, Camry Hybrid.
Toyota has retained its number one position in the
second annual Best Global Green Brands report,
published by International brand consultancy
Interbrand.
The report credits Toyota’s achievement to the fact
it continues to make environmental sustainability a
core management priority.
It cites the expansion of the world’s first mass-
produced full hybrid vehicle, the Toyota Prius, into
a full family of models as a further success story.
Interbrand’s results are based on the public
perception of a company’s environmental
sustainability and the demonstration of that
performance based on publicly available
information and data.
Worldwide sales of Toyota’s full hybrid vehicles
passed four million at the end of April this year.
In Australia, Toyota has sold more than 40,000

Toyota’s South Australian forklift branch wins president’s awardToyota Material Handling Australia’s South Australian forklift branch TMH (SA) has won the Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) President’s Award for Excellence.

It is the second time the South Australian
branch has won the prestigious award in three
years, the first being won in 2009.
TMHA president and CEO Terry Unnai
presented the award to general manager
South Australia Hamish Harper at a gala dinner
at Sydney’s Westin Hotel earlier this month.
On the same night, TMH Brisbane branch area
sales manager Daniel Ford won the highest
individual prize - the Top Gear award for the
Sales Target Incentive Guru (previously known
as the Top Gun, Sales Society Award).
TMH (SA) is the official South Australian
branch for the Toyota Industrial Equipment,
BT Lift Truck and Raymond Forklift product
ranges, as well as Toyota’s range of Huski
skid-steer loaders and towing tractors.
The President’s Award for Excellence
recognises excellence in all aspects of Toyota
Material Handling (TMH) branch operations.
Mr Unnai said TMH (SA) had set the
benchmark for excellence for the whole TMHA
network last year.
“It’s always good to reward a branch that fully
embraces the Toyota philosophy of Customer
First,” he said.
Mr Harper said the dealership’s second
President’s Award was recognition for the hard
work of his entire staff.
“We have taken advantage of the scale of
TMHA by leveraging areas of accounting, HR
and marketing, and that has allowed us to
concentrate on delivering the best customer
service with a great support network,” he said.
“The other main driver has been our stability of
staff; we have 71 team members and very little
turnover, giving our customers consistency
with service but also reinforcing a collective
team culture.”
TMH (SA) supports its customers with a fleet of
more than 25 service vans based at the branch’s
headquarters in Cavan Road, Gepps Cross.
Top Gear award winner Daniel Ford joined
TMH (QLD) in February 2006.
“Working for Toyota means selling a prominent
forklift brand that is well known in the industry
as the market leader,” he said.
“All the TMHA branches work together as
a team and have a common goal, which is
customer satisfaction.
“TMHA gives you recognition for your efforts

I couldn’t have won this award without the
ongoing support and work ethic of the field
service department, the workshop technicians
and the QLD sales team’s continual
encouragement,” Mr Ford said.
Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA)
is a major sponsor of Save Our Sons, a
charitable organisation seeking to raise
public awareness of and research funding for
the muscular disease Duchenne Muscular
Dystrophy (DMD).
The Save Our Sons charity has raised more
than $1 million to fund a human clinical trial
with the aim of finding a cure for the disease,
which only affects boys.
A highlight of this year’s fundraising
program was the recent Play for a Cure
Poker Tournament, held at Le Montage in
Leichhardt on the 9th June.
First prize included flights to Las Vegas and
accommodation, with an entry ticket into
the World Series of Poker Tournament. The
raffle prize was a Toyota Yaris three-door
hatchback.
Celebrity attendees included boxing
champion Jeff Fenech, poker champion Joe
Hachem, actor Ada Nicodemou (from TV
series Home and Away), plus a raft of sports
celebrities, including many Souths and West
Tigers NRL players.
TMHA executive vice president and COO,
Steve Takacs, said the company was
honoured to help extend the Save Our Sons
campaign to find a cure for DMD.
“DMD is a terrible disease, with children
battling against the clock to stay self-sufficient
without the need of a wheelchair and,
ultimately, to survive,” he said.
Save Our Sons was founded by Sydney train
driver Eli Eid and his best mate, contract
painter Bass Abboud, after Eid’s son was
diagnosed with DMD.
Save Our Sons seeks to raise public
awareness and much-needed funding for
research on the disease.
“We started in February 2008, just the two
of us, because I wanted to help a mate who
was doing it tough – with his son likely to die
before the age of 20,” Save Our Sons vice
president Bass Abboud said.
“We now have a committee of five running
the charity with great community support.
“Some celebrity backing goes a long way,
with Ada Nicodemou from Home and Away
being one of our first two SOS ambassadors.”
DMD is a form of muscular dystrophy
characterised by aggressive muscle
degeneration, leading to the inability to walk
and eventually death caused by heart and
lung failure.
The disease only affects boys, with
symptoms presenting themselves before the
age of five.
DMD affects one in every 3500 boys, making
it the most prevalent of muscular dystrophies.
Although only males are afflicted, females
can be carriers. The disorder is caused by a
mutation in the Dystrophin gene.

The new-look RX range has benefitted from
chassis revisions and improvements across
the range to increase steering response and
driving enjoyment.
RX F Sport models leverage these
improvements further by adding unique
suspension calibration, performance dampers,
paddle shift (RX 350) and F Sport-specific
wheels, along with unique exterior and interior
styling that befits the F Sport designation.
Available for the first time in Australia and joining the new-look RX 350 and 450h hybrid range is the new RX 270.
The addition of RX 270 increases the available drivetrain options to three - with RX range now offering a 2.7-litre four cylinder, a 3.5-litre alloy quad cam V6 and a highly efficient 3.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid.

LEXUS LAUNCHES NEW-LOOK RX RANGE
Lexus has increased value across the range, with RX 270 entering the market under $70,000# RRP - $12,000 less than the previous entry point.
Lexus Australia chief executive Tony Cramb said that the new-look RX Line is a continuation of the full-scale change that is occurring at Lexus.
“With its improved dynamics, bolder styling, expanded range and improved value - the new-look RX Line brings to life the renewed focus of Lexus and our product-led revolution,” Mr Cramb said.
“The addition of new RX 270 and F Sport
models only adds further credibility to
a model range that has always been
recognised for outstanding value, reliability
and practicality.
“New-look RX, with its choice of petrol or
hybrid engines, will offer a range of vehicles
for a range of tastes,” he said.

New hinos bolster Australian defence capabilityHino Australia has completed the delivery of a batch of 56 new Hino 4x4 medium-duty trucks to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) as part of a long-standing relationship between the two organisations.Hino’s all-terrain 500 Series GT 4x4 has been chosen by Defence to fill a number of critical logistical roles around Australia, and have been configured in both GT 1322 standard cab and GT 1322 crew-cab specification.
The Australian Defence Force has received more than 520 Hino trucks since 1995, actively deployed to varying multi-task roles, with the 500th vehicle presented to ADF personnel in late June.
Hino’s GT 4x4 variants have been favoured by the Department of Defence because of their outstanding combination of reliability, durability and versatility, according to Hino Australia National Government Sales Manager, Tom Ayrton.
“The Hino GT is a versatile truck with exceptional off-road ability, civilised on-road handling and tremendous load-carrying ability - making it the perfect vehicle for this very important non-combat application,” he said.
“As Hino’s flagship 4x4 truck, the GT features a
heavy-duty low-range four-wheel drive transfer
case, and can be driven in 2WD-mode on-road to
maximise economy.
“Its performance and durability is well proven
as the GT is the base vehicle for Hino’s record-
breaking Dakar Rally race truck, which is the only
vehicle in Dakar history to have completed 21
consecutive race starts and finishes,” Mr Ayrton
added.
The purpose-specification trucks are equipped
with a heavy-duty steel tray and tarp, tailgate
loader, heavy-duty leaf spring suspension and
all-terrain protection equipment such as Hino’s
genuine alloy bullbar.
The Defence trucks are also fitted with 11R 22.5
wheel and tyre combinations which will be the
standard specification on all Hino 4x4 GT 500
Series models from July 2012 production.
Mr Ayrton said Hino was able to meet an
obligation to have the vehicles enter service
by June 30 thanks to the efficiency of Hino’s
production system and a network of local supply
partners.
“The first chassis did not arrive in Australia until
late March and the last arrived in early June,” he
said.
“To get all 56 trucks completed with bodies
and modifications and then delivered into
service within three months is an outstanding
achievement.
“It required a substantial team effort from Hino’s
Australian staff and Dealer network and key
suppliers All Truck Bodies and VSE Engineering
to get them ready in time,” Mr Ayrton added.
Hino has partnered with fleet specialist financier
LeasePlan as part of the Defence supply contract.
Trade Building Supplies Pty Ltd commissioned
the two Toyota 32-8FG30 forklifts in May to load
building supplies, including packs of timber, at
its Berrimah headquarters.
Sister company Allltools is poised to purchase
two new petrol/gas Toyota forklifts in the new
financial year.
The company’s very successful roofing-truss
plant has a four-tonne payload Toyota forklift.
Company director Darren Treumer said the new
three-tonne payload internal combustion forklifts
replaced another brand.
“Our family business owns many Toyota
vehicles and it made sense to switch to Toyota
for the latest forklift purchase,” he said.
“Overall, Toyota has a very good name in
the Northern Territory and the forklifts always
provide good resale value. The forklifts even
match our company colours.
“Toyota forklifts have excellent safety features
and the models we have just purchased have
been highly specified, with features such as
weighing scales.
“In addition to the quality of the machines, we
have the peace of mind of knowing that if we do
need a spare part, they’re readily available at
the local Toyota forklift dealer, Western Diesel.
“Spares availability was an issue with our
previous machines,” Mr Treumer said.

Online Hire Pty Ltd was founded three
years ago based on the new concept in
the equipment hire industry of customers
completing their hire arrangements fully online.
The company, based in St Marys,
commissioned its fi rst Toyota Huski in 2010
and now has four Huskis, three 5SDK-5
models and one 4SDK-4.
The four Toyota skid steer loaders offer
strong performance combined with compact
dimensions, for easy site access.
Online Hire principal Brian Callaghan gained
nearly four decades of experience in the
equipment hire industry hiring concrete pumps
before founding Online Hire.
Brian Callaghan said the Toyota Huskis had
proved to be very reliable and easy to service.
“The best feature for us is that the Huskis have
mechanical rather than electrical operating
levers,” he said.
“We wash our equipment after every hire. With
some of the other types of machine you can
have problems with water in the electrics.
“The tradespeople who hire the Toyota Huskis
say they are good performers for their size.
“These skid-steers are well thought-out and
easy for our maintenance staff to service.
“If we need service assistance, Toyota
Material Handling has plenty of service vans
on the road.”
Online Hire’s website allows customers to
view the equipment online, check the pricing,
book the equipment and have it delivered – all
without visiting the hire centre.
The company hires to the general public, home
renovators, tradespeople and owner-builders.
Company founder Brian Callaghan drove in the
Bathurst 1000 motor race ten times.

Held on the morning of June 20, the
Challenge was a practical driving competition
to fi nd out who is the best and safest forklift
driver of the more than 800 operators at the
Sydney Markets in Flemington, NSW.
Entrants had to complete a comprehensive
questionnaire on forklift operation and safety
to reach the Grand Final.
The top 10 operators faced-off in a round of
practical tests for the title of Sydney Market
Toyota Forklift Challenge Champion.
Industry experts Forkpro provided the judging panel and set the course, which was designed to test the driving ability and safety – with all 10 fi nalists driving a 2.5-tonne payload Toyota 8FG25 model forklift.
The winner, with the least points deductions, was Daniel Terwisscha, from FUS Railside Building.
He received a trophy and a Coles/Myer gift card.
