Rationale Basic literacy in physical science is required in order to engage in the modern
world as a responsible citizen and consumer. Students need the ability to conduct investigations and to collect and analyze
empirical data according to the scientific method in order to succeed in future endeavors.
Students must also develop the ability to clearly communicate in writing the results and implications of empirical investigations in anticipation of the demands that will be placed on them in college and the workplace.
This course is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
Skills Thinking Skills:
� Analyzing, problem solving, developing reasonable conclusions, evaluating information, making decisions, assessing issues with facts and reason.
Process Skills: � Gathering, recording, organizing, interpreting, and analyzing content, links
process to thinking skills. Communication Skills:
� Must be effective readers who can read with understanding and utilize tools such as: textbook, a conversion table, and periodical table.
Writing Skills:� Writing is the application of thinking skills and process skills. Writing
involves collecting, recording, and organizing information as well as sequencing, establishing relationships among ideas, ordering, and organizing paragraphs, and constant revision of text and materials.
