PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Swimming Carnival Forbes High held the annual Swimming Carnival on Friday 28th February at the town pool with excellent weather conditions throughout the day. It was the closest carnival we have had in many years with only 1 point separating Burrabinya and Wiradjuri. A total of 13 swimmers have qualified for the Western Swimming Championships that will be held in Dubbo mid-March. Congratulations to all competitors on the day who were happy to showcase their athletic prowess. The bellyflop and Bennett Cup giant relay were again highlights of the day with several staff members worse for wear after their flopping efforts. Cyber Safety Talks Stage 4 students recently attended a presentation from our regional School Liaison Police Officer (SLIP). These presentations have been designed to educate our students about the dangers around social media and any information that they may release to these sites and the internet. The SLIP discussed the legalities around inappropriate material and the avenues that could be pursued if students found themselves in need of assistance. School Photos This year photos were conducted in Week 4 by Advanced Life Photography with catch-up photos for students that were absent in Week 5. Individual photos were taken as well as whole school year groups and the Student Representative Council. Charles Sturt University Presentation (CSU) At Forbes High School we continue to offer our students opportunities to explore post schooling pathways. Following on from our Tertiary Excursion in early February CSU presented to our Year 12 cohort on 19th February information regarding entry to university, scholarships, accommodation and various study options at their campuses. The next chance for our students to discover and explore these post school options will be at the Tertiary Awareness Day at Forbes High School early in Term 2. YEAR 12 TERTIARY IMMERSION

Day one of the Year 12 Tertiary excursion was a roaring success. We set off early for Canberra. Australian National University allowed us to participate in a DNA profiling task as well as “tasty” genetic identity activity.

We then went to the University of Canberra, where we ran into recently graduated student, Libby who showed the girls her dorm. The day ended in Wollongong where, again, another ex-student came out to say Hi. Isobelle is currently undertaking an internship with a city-based solicitor. We ended with bowling and they tell me the lower the score the better you played- I think that was just to make me feel better.

The following day we experienced a full day of uni life, before we headed to Sydney for the night.

Day Two at Wollongong kicked off with a “short” walk to breakfast. We were treated to an amazing key note address, and an even better dance sequence!! The students then set off to participate in their individualized day, a chosen variety of courses including; Cryptography, All Aboard the Hogwarts Express, Sport Sciences, Nursing, Studying Internationally, Engineering, Animation and Sound, Business, Theatre as well as Ceramics and Photography. There were a lot of wide eyes and overwhelmed faces as we got back on the bus and headed to Sydney.

Day Three started with rain (hope it follows us home) we went to Sydney Uni and were given hints and tips on how to apply for scholarships, Early Entry, study tips and student accommodation. We were a very overawed and tired group as we boarded the bus and began the trip home. Thank you for being such a great group and upholding the school values.

Mrs Kimberley Jackson & Mr Jason Nottingham

CSU CHEMISTRY DAY

Year 12 Chemistry students were treated to a taste of university life today at Charles Sturt University Wagga. They participated in mandatory experiments; PH testing, titrations, atomic absorption spectroscopy, UV spectroscopy and even witnessed a “magic” show. As usual our students were fantastic representatives of the school and thanks to Miss Hall for accompanying Corey, Tom and Jeanne.

SALEYARDS EXCURSION

This week our Stage 5 Agriculture Class was fortunate enough to attend the Forbes Central West Livestock Exchange to witness the sheep sales. What a great experience for the students, who got to see the cattle and sheep yards and watch how the auction ran. They saw the different breeds of sheep as well what kinds of jobs that are available in our local area. Big thanks to Luke Whitty, Krystelle Ridley, Min Northey and Forbes Shire Council staff for allowing our students to experience this event.

SCHOOL UNIFORM CLOTHING POOL If you have any unwanted school uniform articles lease drop them into the schools administration office so that they can be added to the school clothing pool. If you require items please contact the school office to help assist you.
