It’s been another fabulous fortnight at Henty Public School! The students have been engaging well in their learning and showing how well they are developing as self-regulated learners. They have been adapting well to having different teachers and a few changes from their regular routines.

We all celebrated at the end of week 5 with a PBL rewards day, The students all enjoyed mufti day and their class treats.

The WOW jar was filled at the end of Week 5. Everyone enjoyed an extra 10 minutes of play during recess. I’m encouraging all students to work towards receiving a WOW card each week for the PBL Focus. This week we are focused on caring for our school environments. Last week we came very close. SRC students are being encouraged to hand out at least 3 WOW cards each day.

Although we still have COVID restrictions in place, the students are enjoying the athletics “carnival”. The weather was fantastic for our field events last Friday. I’m hoping it stays sunny for the track events scheduled for this Friday.

If you have any questions, concerns or comments please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Ms Fiona HoathR/Principal

Cold and flu systems continue to impact on our staff and students. I hope the warmer weather will see a reduction over the coming weeks.

Thank you for your support in keeping the community COVID free by keeping your children at home until both a negative COVID test and symptoms have resolved.

2/3 GREEN NEWS

Kalori /3

Wow, what a busy term we have had in 2/3 Green. We have been busy with our learning, running cross country, making pizzas, participating in the walk-a-thon and athletics carnival, receiving reports/having interviews and celebrating our hard work in week 5 during our PBL reward day.

I can’t believe that we are nearing the end of Term 3. In literacy, we have been focusing on public speaking and in particular writing our speeches for the Multicultural Public Speaking Competition. I am so proud of everyone for standing up in front of the class and Mrs Liston to deliver their speeches, there were quite a few who didn’t want to do it, and they worked up the courage to do it. We have finished public speaking now and are moving on to poetry.

In maths, we have been busy learning new concepts and in week 5 we explored fractions and got to make our own homemade pizzas on a cold winter’s day which the students really enjoyed. Since making pizzas, they have been eager to cook more in class, so I hope they’re all offering to help with cooking dinner at home. In Mappen, we are learning about the ‘age of exploration’ which covers navigation, early exploration, Australian symbols and landmarks and how places have changed over time. Most students are showing great interest in this topic.

Homework will continue to be handed out on a Tuesday. Please continue to encourage your children to be reading every night at home. It has been so pleasing to see the progress that each child is making during reading and home reading consolidates the strategies that they are learning in class.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this challenging year. I am so proud of each of your children and the resilience they continue to demonstrate. I’m very much looking forward to the rest of the year. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
