Europoliuretani is able to offer a wide

range of dispensers for the application

of polyurethane glue. Our strength lies

in the ability to design for our customers

tailor-made dispensers that satisfy a wide

variety of requirements; in fact each

distributor has been designed for both

manual and automated use suitable

for application within a robotised system.

Each dispenser has a range of

technological characteristics to offer

a specific system suitable for the

purpose of use, while maintaining

simplicity of use in applying glue

to the product.

The 1K BASIC system consists of a movable carriage

in which are applied both the pumping system, which

sends the fluid from the tin/barrel to the dispensing

gun, and a liquid spray gun (optional use), which is

used to speed up catalysation of the glue once applied

to the item.

The pipe that connects the pump to the gun

and the base where the glue barrel is positioned,

are both heated, to allow not only better fluidisation

of the product in cold temperatures but also an

increase in the reaction speed of the glue itself.

The drum can be changed easily and quickly:

simply lift the lid with the built-in diaphragm pump

and replace it with the new one.

In this way the system is ready to be used again.

A series of gaskets will guarantee a moisture seal

to avoid hardening of the glue.

1K BASIC PLUS

The system consists of a carbon steel frame

in which both the pumping system and its barrel/drum

of chemical product are housed, together with

the electrical panel for system control.

The pumping system takes the chemical from

the packaging and sends the fluid to the dispensing

gun through a special pipe. This pipe and the base

in which the glue drum is located are both heated

to better fluidise the product in cold temperatures

and to increase the reaction speed of the glue itself.

The system is supplied with a liquid spray gun (optional

use) to speed up catalysation of the glue once applied

to the product.

The empty drum can be changed simply and quickly:

simply lift the suction pipe by hand, given its slight

weight, disconnect the heated base, replace the drum,

reposition the suction tube and the system is ready

to be reused. A special system of gaskets will guarantee

moisture tightness to avoid hardening of the glue.

The 1K Basic PLUS dispenser model with respect

to the 1K Basic model allows the use of 200 litres.

This system has been designed for the use of two packs

with very different capacities (50 litres and 200 litres)

to allow the user to increase or decrease use of the

chemical product according to work orders.

Considering that glue is a chemical that reacts with

humidity, it must be purchased with packaging that

is suitable for consumption, as an adhesive that remains

exposed to this condition could lose its stability and

effectiveness over time.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

• Chemical packaging capacity: 50 litres, 200 litres.

• Drum change: manual with suction pipe lifting.

• Chemical suitable for the system: with or without

additives. For the diaphragm pump the viscosity

of the product can be up to 5000 cps, and for the

piston pump even over 5000 cps.

• Drum pipes and housing: heated.

• Pump: diaphragm or piston.

• Flow rate up to 25 l/min.

• Temperature control/setting:

by means of temperature controllers.

• Flow regulation: via compressed air.

• Version of gun installed: Standard replaceable

with other models.

• Airbrush: spray by liquid nebulisation.

Lifting the pump to replace the drum/barrel

Glues with viscosity> 5000 cps can be used with the use

of gear pumps driven by an electric motor.

With a potentiometer inserted in the electrical panel

of the system it is possible to precisely control the quantity

of product to be dispensed. The 1K EVO dispenser

presents constructive characteristics similar to the 1K

BASIC PLUS system with regard to the carbon steel

frame, the pipes, the heated drum housing base and the

type of packaging that can be used. The electrical panel

has a number of additional features necessary to control

the main functions.

Changing of the empty drum in the dispenser takes

place simply and quickly for both the piston pump

and the gear pump system: with a requirement to lift

the pumping system, the machine has been equipped

with a column with a compressed air piston that allows

easy changing of the drum. With a simple start command,

the pump is automatically lifted waiting for the drum

to be changed to be subsequently repositioned to resume

work. A special system of gaskets will guarantee moisture

tightness to avoid hardening of the glue.

1K IBC

The cube, in which the polyurethane glue is present,

is located on top of a carbon steel frame, whose

structure allows it to also act as a containment basin,

designed specifically in case of accidental spills

of the chemical product. The pumping system,

the storage tank and the electrical control panel

are housed in the same frame.

The 1K IBC dispenser for monocomponent glues,

with a capacity of 1000 litres of the chemical product,

is suitable for operators in sectors where a large quantity

of the product is required. Generally this type of system

is combined with automated systems for application

of the glue.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

• Chemical packaging capacity: 1000 litres.

• Chemical suitable for the system: with and without additives.

• Piping: heated.

• Cube housing base: with containment basin.

• Pump: geared with electric motor.

• Flow rate on request.

• Temperature control/setting: by means of

a temperature controller.

• Flow regulation: through potentiometer for motor

speed adjustment.

• Standard gun version installed.

• Airbrush: spray by liquid nebulisation.

The gear pump, which takes the chemical from

the cube to start it at the dispensing gun, is driven

by an electric motor and in addition it is possible

to install a magnetic coupling (optional) between

the pump and the motor in order to avoid any

physiological leaking of the product from the gaskets.

In the long term, with this option, possible blocking

of the pump caused by the reaction of the chemical

with the air is avoided.

The 10-litre (heated) tank has been designed

to avoid any problem when the product is about

to finish. In fact, the tank with its level sensor warns

the operator when the remaining chemical is about

to run out: this enables replacing of the cube,

preventing the air from passing through the circuit

and, interacting with the chemical, damaging

the machine. The cube is changed simply and

intuitively: simply unscrew the pipe connecting the

cube, reposition the full load and reconnect the pipe.

The pipe that carries the chemical product to

the head of the dispenser is heated to thermostat

the product at the correct temperature.

The system is supplied with a liquid spray gun

(optional use) to speed up catalysation of the glue

once applied to the product.

The control panel houses the thermoregulator

for setting/regulating of the pipe temperature,

the thermoregulator for the tank and a potentiometer

for adjusting the quantity of glue.

DISPENSING GUNS FOR 1K DISPENSEREach monocomponent glue dispenser is supplied with

a standard gun that can be replaced with other models

on customer request. The choice is mainly made considering

the type of work, its grinding wheel and any combined

system. Ergonomics, weight, duration and type of system

are the characteristics that vary from one to another.

The standard dispenser is undoubtedly the lightest and

most agile dispenser; periodically it requires replacement

of the gaskets.

The magnet dispenser, the improved version of the standard

dispenser, has no seals and is more reliable over time,

with a slightly higher weight and different ergonomics.

The automatic version is only used for those dispensers

to which an automated system for large productions will be

applied, it is normally connected to a hydraulic control unit.

In all the versions assembly of the easy-to-replace

(disposable) distributor comb is envisaged:

the disposable comb has a bayonet coupling, simply place

it on the tip of the gun, rotate it a few degrees and it is ready

for use. The reverse operation must be performed

for replacement. Other and possible distribution combs can

be designed/supplied according to customer requirements.

FOR BI-COMPONENTGLUES

This dispenser has been specially

designed to mix bi-component

polyurethane glues.

The increasingly frequent demand

for polyurethane glues in the industrial

sector, for perfect and lasting bonding,

has resulted in the market demanding

increasingly reliable, precise and at the

same time easy to use machines for

optimal mixing of the components.

With its experience in designing foaming

machines, normally used in the sectors

of refrigeration, furnishing and in many

other areas that reflect the characteristics

just mentioned, Europoliuretani set out

to draw on the same know-how for the

design of glue dispensers.

DISPENSER 2KBI-COMPONENT GLUES

The 2K dispensers are built in a solid carbon steel frame,

on which components of internationally recognised high

quality brands are installed: SIEMENS, BUCHER, WIKA,

KELLER, PEPPERL + FUCHS etc.

The 2K dispenser can be configured with 30- or 100- litre

tanks and can mix components either with or without

additives. If the additives contained within the components

are abrasive, Europoliuretani is able to provide a special

treatment to the pump to prolong its life.

The gear pumping system takes the chemical from the tanks

(the latter can be heated and pressurised up to 2 bar) and

sends the fluid to the dispensing gun via a special heated

pipe. Thermostatation of the chemical lines and of the tank

improves fluidisation of the product in cold temperature

conditions and enables a greater reaction speed of the glue

itself. Usually, the machine is supplied with a standard control

panel to control the main functions of the machine, but at the

customer’s request a PLC can be installed to ensure better

control of the system through additional applications: it is an

example of the possible connection to a robotised system.

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

• Chemical packaging capacity: 30 or 100 litres.

• Chemical suitable for the system: with and without additives.

• Piping: heated.

• Pump: geared with electric motor.

• Flow rate on request.

• Temperature control/setting: by means of a temperature

controller or PLC.

• Flow regulation: through potentiometer for motor speed

adjustment or PLC.

• Standard gun version installed: with static mixing system.

SERIE 30 / SERIE 100

Version with PLC

MIXING SYSTEMThe 2K dispenser was created with a static mixing

system, but upon customer request it is possible to

make it dynamic- or spray-type.

The static system (the most widely used), involves the

use of both plastic and metal mixers.

The concept behind this mixing method is that there is

no need to wash the mixing chamber once the product

has been dispensed because, as there are no moving

parts, no blockage can occur.

The metal mixers, based on the reaction time of the

chemical, must be washed after a prolonged stop, while

the plastic mixers are disposable.

The choice of the appropriate type of mixer takes place

considering the type of chemical product, i.e. the

stoichiometric ratio of the components, the viscosity

of the materials and the quantity of product to be

dispensed.

Regarding the dynamic system, it is more suitable for

those types of particular products that are difficult to

mix or which are highly reactive. As there is a rotating

mixer inside the mixing chamber, to avoid blocking

it, it is necessary to wash it with a solvent once the

dispensing is completed.

Both in the static and dynamic mixers a distributor

comb can be added in order to apply the glue in a

uniform manner, also for single use.

MANUAL SPREADING

APPLICATION WITH AUTOMATIC ROLLER CONVEYORExample of robot for the application of glue on flat panels

with or without edge. The operator need only place the panels

on the motorised roller table and the system will automatically

read the length and width of the panels depositing the

quantity of chemical required, without wasting materials

and speed in operation. No predefined support sequence

is required and the panels can also be of different sizes.

Europoliuretani also designs and manufactures automated

systems for the application of polyurethane glue (mono-

and bi-component) made to measure to meet the needs

and requirements of the customer. Below are two examples

of automatic dispensers, customised and designed by

Europoliuretani for our customers.

A feature that makes the system functional is its

adaptability to all types of panels. The system envisages

both the use of dispensers with “comb” , which allow

the glue to be distributed homogeneously over the

entire surface, and dispensers “without comb”.

The comb dispenser can be assembled/removed easily

via a “click” system as for the manual dispenser.

EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION WITH CUSTOM ROBOTThe operator will place the large panel on a mobile

carriage and position it easily at “point 0” to begin

applying the adhesive. Sensors automatically detect

the shape of the panel, either linear or arched.

The robot moves along both the horizontal and vertical

axis, to follow the progress of the panel, either flat

or curved.

POLYURETHANEADHESIVE

The SUPRAFIX range of Europoliuretani

proposes several mono- and bi-

component polyurethane glues.

SUPRAFIX is based on compounds

capable of firmly bonding different

materials. Once it has permanently

hardened it acquires a very strong

resistance to both water and solvents.

THE ADVANTAGES THAT SUPRAFIX OFFERS• versatility in the type and use;

• it binds a wide variety of products;

• flexible or rigid;

• slow to fast polymerisation time;

• good properties at low temperatures;

• good environmental and water resistance;

• good chemical resistance and resistance

to oil;

• without using solvents.

POLYURETHANE GLUEANALYSIS OF THE SURFACES TO BE GLUED TO IDENTIFY THE TYPE OF ADHESIVE THAT IS MOST SUITABLE

The evident characteristics of tenacity and resistance

and its simple use allow the use of polyurethane glue

in many sectors.

For cold application mono- and by-component

adhesives are available, both diluted in solvents

and mostly with 100% of solid content (without

VOC – volatile organic compounds).

MONOCOMPONENT GLUE

Adhesive obtained from a mix of isocyanates that react

with nebulised water and moisture contained in the air.

Used for the gluing of one or several porous surfaces

only one of the two surfaces to be glued need be

porous, e.g. porous-porous and porous-compact).

This type of glue is very sensitive to outdoor

temperature and humidity and it is advisable to use

it in environments both at controlled temperatures of

between 18°C and 30°C, and with a relative humidity

(RH) of between 40% and 60%.

BI-COMPONENT GLUE

Adhesive obtained by mixing 2 components, polyol (A)

and isocyanate (B). Used for gluing together completely

compact surfaces (therefore not porous but compact-

compact). Compared to the monocomponent type,

this glue is less sensitive to external temperatures

but it is advisable to always use it in environments

with controlled temperature of between 10°C and 30°C.

PHASE 2ADHESIVE CONSISTENCY

CHOICE OF THE CONSISTENCY OF THE ADHESIVE BASED ON THE APPLICATION PROCESS

LOW VISCOSITY ADHESIVE (25°C)

The adhesive has a fluid/liquid consistency, is easy

to distribute and is suitable for both casting and spray

applications. It is used above all in the case of gluing

of not particularly absorbent surfaces as they are not very

permeable and require a more fluid glue to better penetrate

inside the surface and to thus obtain a better grip.

Elasticity and transparency are the characteristics

of a low-viscosity adhesive.

MONOCOMPONENT GLUEBetween 1,000 and 8,000 mPa·s

MONOCOMPONENT GLUEBetween 1,000 and 8,000 mPa·s

BI-COMPONENT GLUEBetween 1,000 and 10,000 mPa·s

BI-COMPONENT GLUEBetween 1,000 and 10,000 mPa·s

MEDIUM-HIGH VISCOSITY ADHESIVE (25°C)

The adhesive has a consistent appearance of additive

colour (usually yellow/ivory), it is more difficult to spread and

the most appropriate distribution method is through pouring.

It limits dripping, it is suitable for filling applications and also

for vertical applications (thixotropic adhesive) as in walls

or ceilings. Greater rigidity and structure.

PHASE 3SURFACE ANALYSIS

ANALYSIS OF DISTRIBUTION AND BONDING TIMES ACCORDING TO THE SPEED OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS

According to the application process, to the size

of the surface in which to distribute the glue, to the

time available from the moment of glue distribution

onto the surface and to the gluing of the two parts,

it is possible to decide whether to use a more reactive

(quicker) or less reactive (slower) adhesive.

OPEN TIME:The time interval that is available from the moment of glue distribution onto he surface to the gluing of the two parts is considered as open time. It can be slower or faster, ranging from a few minutes to a number of hours. For most adhesives it is possible to modify this, longer or shorter, but always within the limits of the chemical nature of the product itself.

PRESS TIME:Time required for the compression of a manufactured item in order for the adhesive to reach a polymerisation stage such that it is possible to extract and initially move it. The pressing time undergoes variations based on thereactivity of the adhesive: the more reactive it is, the lesser the press time.

COMPLETE HARDENING:Monocomponent adhesives harden due to the moisture contained in the air or through the addition of nebulised water. Application of the same can be performed manually, with a spatula coating or with the use of distributors. Bi-component adhesives harden through the chemical reaction between polyol and isocyanates. The application generally occurs with the use of special systems that allow measuring of the two components in the correct pre-established ratios, and with greater ease. Complete hardening (usually expressed in days) is the time necessary for the adhesive to reach the completeness of its mechanical and adhesion properties. It can take at least 3 days.
