LOCATIONCarolina Day School, 1345 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC. We are approximately three miles south of Biltmore Village on Route 25. We can also be reached from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Exit Route 25 North.

REGISTRATIONTo register, go to our website at www.carolinaday.org. Spaces cannot be held without receipt of camp fee. Camps fill quickly, so early registration is highly recommended. Camps reaching maxi-mum enrollment will be closed

REGISTRATION DISCOUNTSEarly Registration Enroll and pay in full by April 1 and receive a 5% discount on all camps.

GRADE LEVEL/AGE RANGESThe grade level is determined by the grade the camper will be en-tering in the fall of 2017. Campers for rising pre-k should be four years of age by September 30, 2017. Summer Quest camps listed for grades K-5 or K-6 are split into age-appropriate groups.

PAYMENTPayment in full is due at the time of registration. Payment can be made with Visa, Mastercard, cash, or check. There is a returned check fee of $40.00.

REFUND/CHANGES POLICYRefunds are not given for absences. $85.00 of the tuition for each camper is non-refundable. For any change in registration, there will be a $25 fee. There are no refunds for withdrawls after May 26. If a camp must be cancelled due to low enrollment, a full refund will be provided or you can switch to another camp.

HOURS & ARRIVALMost camps run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Camp begins prompt-ly at 9:00 each day and ends at 1:00, 3:00, or 5:00, depending on the camps in which your children are registered. Please be aware that because of field trip plans, campers need to arrive on time and early dismissals may not be possible. Arrive ready for a fun day at camp between 8:50 and 9:00 each morning. Early care is avail-able from 8:00 to 9:00. Any camper arriving before 8:45 will be placed in early care, and parents will be billed accordingly. Camp-ers enrolled in Early Bird Camp may arrive as early as 8:00.

DEPARTURE Campers must be picked up within 10 minutes of the time their camp ends, with the exception of the High-Five Camp, which is over at 5:00. If campers are on campus after 5:00 or after 10 min-utes of the time their camp ends, parents will be billed at the rate of $1 per minute with a $10 minimum.

SNACKS AND LUNCHCamp will break for a morning snack around 10:00, and campers will eat lunch around 12:00. Please send a snack and a lunch with your child each day. Campers staying later than 1:00 may want to bring an additional afternoon snack.

SUNSCREEN and WATERCampers are responsible for applying their own sunscreen before camp each day. Campers must bring a full water bottle each day. They are out and about having fun and need to be able to take their water with them on their travels!

CHANGESThis brochure was printed several months before the start date of our summer programs. Due to the possibility of changes in teach-ers’ availability and enrollment levels, we reserve the right to make changes in the schedule when necessary. We will inform you of any changes before the program begins.

CAMPER CONDUCTCarolina Day School Summer Programs reserves the right to dis-miss, without a refund, any camper whose conduct we deem to be unsafe or inappropriate.

Camps Offered All Sessions

AFTERNOON FUN CAMP Rising K-8Special Hours 1:00-3:00This camp is offered as a continuation of the morning program and is open only to campers enrolled in the 9:00-1:00 camp session. This afternoon camp is one big, non-stop adventure that you are definitely go-ing to love. Your amazing teacher and counselors will lead you and your friends in the activities for the day. You and the gang will enjoy crafts, music, drama, stories, trips to the park, exciting games, and more! Once a week you will go on a fun adventure off campus or something extra fun and exciting will come to you! This is a camp you will not want to miss, so reserve your spot now. More than a Prince or Princess Rising Pre-KAlong with fun crafts and games, children will learn princely virtues. Through stories, we will learn about a new princess and princes and what traits make them so special. We will also have plenty of time for crafting glass slippers, shooting at targets, preparing a special food treat, and creating a beautiful winter wonderland. We will even take a trip under the sea! Nature Explorers Quest Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising K-5Do you love being outside? Do you enjoy exploring nature? Join us for a week of hiking, exploring, water play, games, and more! Bring a lunch to eat on the go, plenty of water, and an adventurous spirit! Leaders: Bob & Cathy Walters

Parks & Playgrounds Quest Rising K-2WNC has some of the most beautiful parks and playgrounds in the state, and this week we plan on visiting as many of them as possible. We’ll explore creeks, climb on structures, and swing and slide to our hearts’ delight. Wear play clothes and bring your water shoes as we experience a week of fun and excitement right in our own back yard. Leader: Jake Southern

All About American Girl Quest Rising 1-3This week will be all about you and your special doll! Bring yourAmerican Girl doll to camp each day to play with you. We will make creative things for your doll to wear and so much more. We will even have a fancy American Girl tea party! Join us for a week packed full of dolls, crafts, play, and friends! Leader: Brittany Baliles

Art to Wear Quest Rising 1-5Personalize your own unique self by creating art you can wear! This camp will be filled with activities like tie-dye, jewelry making, face painting, friendship bracelets, hair wraps and more. We will explore a variety of ways to express ourselves with our wearable creations. Leader: Kati Robbins

Cooking 101 Quest Rising 3-6Learn lots of cooking basics in this summer camp. We will cooksomething new every day and learn how to read recipes and measure out ingredients. We will work together to learn to cook things like muffins, pizza, truffles, meatballs and quesadillas. And of course we will get to eat and share our flavorful creations! Come hungry and ready to learn. Leader: Annie Jewett

Medieval Swordplay: Sword & Open Hand Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 3-6Join the new martial art and sport of Boffing, where fully padded and safety tested swords, shields, bows, and arrows are used inmedieval-style combat games! We will focus on swordplay in themorning and archery in the afternoon, playing games like capture the flag, arrow tag, and javelin dodgeball! We teach valuable life lessons about respect, teamwork, and communication through the games, and will teach in-depth tactics for a different gear style each week. This week’s style will be sword and open hand. Run by Phil Ferguson of The Wandering Swordsmen, who has been teaching swordplayprofessionally for three years.

Little Hands Art Rising Pre-KBring out the artist in you! Get ready for a messy, fun, and creative week! You will make some very original art, play some artistic games, and even learn some artistic songs. If you like paint, crayons, or markers, this is the camp for you! Leader: Cathy Walters

Puppy Love Quest Rising K-2Gotta love dogs! If you have a dog or are a dog fanatic, please join is for a week all about cute pooches! We will learn about different breeds, make homemade dog treats and other crafts to pamper yourself and your pooch, and create doggie-themed art. Woof woof! Leader: Ciera Barrow

Colorful Clay Creators Quest Rising 1-5Do you like to mold and create fun projects with clay? Have you tried making art with polymer clay – Sculpey? Whether you’ve experimented with clay before or are a first timer please join us for a week ofexploring the diversity and beauty of bright and colorful polymer clays! You will learn skills in working with the clay while making your own one-of-a-kind creations like beads, pendants, creatures, and more. Leader: Kati Robbins

Star Wars Quest Rising 2-5Calling all Star Wars fans! This is the camp for you! Join us for a fun week of all things Star Wars. There will be Jedi Training, simulated combat, Star Wars trivia, some movie viewing, droid construction, and more. If you are a fan then you won’t want to miss this! Leader: Jake Southern

Science in the Kitchen Quest Rising 2-5Ever been told not to play with your food? Well not this time! Join us as we not only play with our food, but we experiment with it, learn about it and even eat some of it too! We will harness the power of the sun to create s’mores, learn how to make and write with invisible ink and create delicious ice cream with your own two hands! You’ll need your lab coat, but also a spoon and fork! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Camp Half-Blood Quest Rising 3-5Welcome demi-Gods! Are you wondering who your parent is? Join us at Camp Half Blood and find out! We will travel together on a journey of epic proportions as we meet the Greek Gods and Goddesses; the heroes; and of course...the monsters! Our crafts, our games, and our snacks will be everything greek! Hmmm...I wonder how many blue snacks we can have in one week? We will team up daily for games of Capture The Flag! Whose team will win? Comic Book Quest Rising 3-6 In this camp, you’ll work on developing your drawing and inking techniques, and learn how to create characters, write dialogue and develop a basic storyline. You’ll participate in guided activities and fun drawing games, designed to advance your technical skills and show you how fun art can be! Time will be spent each day on a final project of your own design, which will be scanned and published in our own Carolina Day Comic Book. Everyone works at their own level pace, so both beginning and intermediate students are welcome. Join us for some comic fun! Leader: Martina Zinn

Hikes with a Splash Special Hours 9:00-3:00 Rising 3-6 What could be better than a beautiful hike in WNC? How abouta rewarding dip in a mountain stream or waterfall? We will visitfive different hiking and swimming destinations in the mountainssurrounding Asheville while learning about how to be safe and have fun in the wilderness. Please be sure to wear sturdy water shoes, a bathing suit, bring water, a snack, lunch and your adventurous spirit! Leader: Dan Chase & Bev MacDowell

Join the CDS Justice League this summer for an unforgettableweek! We will make superhero outfits, find and test your super powers,make your own comic, and save the city! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Out of this World - Space Quest Rising K-2Did you know the sunset on Mars appears blue? Or that there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on all of Earth’s beaches combined? Come on an adventure that includes experiments, discovery, and plenty of solving mysteries about the world around us! Leader: Jennifer Corbitt

Paint-n-Play Quest Rising K-2Join us as we paint hard and play hard! You will learn all about colors through creative and fun painting techniques like marble painting, straw painting and more! You will explore color mixing and loads of different painting techniques to create wildlife, landscapes, and so much more! You will even explore action art and finger painting We will also play hard with plenty of outdoor adventures. Leaders: Martina Zinn

Happy Hikers Camp Special Hours 9:00-3:00 Rising K-5In the heat of summer, there is no happier place than a natural pool of water! Join us as we hike and splash in a new water spot every day. To make the perfect camp experience, there will be games, storytelling, and even a little singing! Pack your bag with a nutritious lunch and snacks, plenty of water, quick drying clothes, and water shoes. Leaders: Cathy & Bob Walters

Food Art Quest Rising 1-5Do you love food? Do you love art? If so, this class is the perfect opportunity for you to come have fun with friends, cook food, decorate food, make food sculptures, eat and make art inspired by food! Each morning we will make a different delicious, artful food and each afternoon we will create art inspired by food. Imagine projects like cookie decorating, paper mâché pizza making, cupcake painting, and fruit and vegetable sculptures! Leader: Annie Jewett

For the Love of Paint Quest Rising 1-5Explore the world of paint from watercolor to acrylic to puff paint to making your own paint. This week will be filled with splatter and fun! While exploring a variety of artists and painting styles we will experiment with painting, color mixing techniques, and designing new, unique tools to apply paint to our canvases. Come ready to get messy. Leader: Kati Robbins

Nerf Wars Quest Rising 1-5Get ready for battle with this fun camp. We will be training, and of course battling it out with all kinds of nerf toys for this exciting week. Bring your favorite nerf guns, or use the ones that we have available to use. We will provide protective eyewear and have organized and safe battles throughout the week. This is not one to miss! Leader: Jake Southern

Old Fashioned Fun Quest Rising 2-5Do you love learning and trying different crafts and cooking? Take a trip back in time and learn more about American pioneers and their crafts and games. Campers will learn basic sewing stitches, hammer out a tin can lantern, bake biscuits, and more! We also learn about some of the famous pioneers who settled our country. Leader: Christy Buchanan

Card Sharks Quest Rising 2-6Card Sharks will learn the rules and play an assortment of card games including Blackjack, Poker, Hearts, and Spite and Malice. They will enhance their math skills, learn about the history of each game, and have a ton of fun with friends. Sportsmanship, vocabulary, and winning tactics will be explored in depth. Card Sharks will enjoy music, snacks, and liquid refreshment during play times. Play locations will change to various spots around campus and will include outdoor venues if weather permits. The week culminates with Kid Vegas day. I can’t tell you what happens that day because what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Leader: Matt and Nicole Cook

Journey into Nature Rising Pre-KAll around us are places and creatures that are fun and exciting to discover. Come with us as we explore the world right outside our door. We’ll learn about everything from the critters in the creek to the birds in the trees, having lots of fun along the way. There is only one question to ask: Are you nuts for nature? Creeks and Parks Camp Rising K-2Discover the wonderful world of water and fun! You will travel to some watery spots for some wet adventures! Discover crawdads and salamanders and some other wonderful water critters. Wear clothes that can get wet and bring your water shoes as we experience a week of water fun and excitement. Nature Art Quest Rising 1-5Be inspired by nature! In nature art we will balance our time between creating outdoors, using natural materials in their natural environment and collecting objects outdoors to then create within the classroom. We will study nature artist Andy Goldsworthy’s work and outdoors we will create impermanent art such as earth mandalas, spirals and fairy homes inspired by his work. We’ll use the natural items that we collect to create leaf prints, weavings, dreamcatchers, wreaths and more in the classroom. Leader: Kati Robbins

July 10 - 14

Disney Mania Rising Pre-KEach day we will pick a different movie theme and do activities and games such as scavenger hunts while watching movie clips, trivia, have sing-a-longs, play Mad Libs, learn how to draw your favorite Disney characters, and much more! Leader: Jennifer Corbitt

Get Up and Play! Quest Rising K-2This is our most popular camp! You are going to have great fun this week while getting plenty of exercise playing super games. You will also have a chance to play on our super-sized water slide. Our games will emphasize sports skill development, but will also stress cooperation, peaceful competitive play, basic physical skills, and following directions. Wear your tennis shoes, and be ready to get up and play with your energetic camp leader, Cathy Walters.

Fashion Design Quest Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 2-6Come join the fun in designing fashion clothes and accessories. If you love fashion, this is the perfect opportunity for you to come experiment with sketching, building, and sewing your dream clothing line. You will learn techniques of drawing fashion design as well as creating wearable fashions. Along with clothing, you will have the chance to making matching jewelry and accessories too… Project Runway, here we come! Leader: Annie Jewett

Let’s Go Hiking Quest Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 3-6Asheville is a natural wonderland. Let’s get out and explore it! Comealong for an adventure while we hike and seek out natural water-playspots. Wear your water shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting wet or your bathing suit. Please bring healthy snacks, water, lunch, a towel, and wear your sunscreen! Leader: Dan Chase & Logan Killen

Pizza! Pizza! Pizza! Quest Rising 4-6Do you love pizza? Who doesn’t? If you have ever wanted to learn how to make pizzas from scratch, then this is the week for you! We will learn how to make homemade pizza dough, use our creativity for new pizza combinations and explore different ways of making one of your favorite things to eat. Deep-dish! Thin crust! Calzones! Strombolis! We will also visit a local pizzeria to see how the pros make the magic happen. Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Harry Potter 1 Quest Rising 3-6Students will explore a book a day through adventure and action (through book four) in one of the four houses of Hogwarts. We will play quidditch, will complete crafts, and will test our wits with trivia. Day 5 will consist of the Tri-Wizard Tournament filled with fun and a flurry of activity. Muggles need not apply. July 17 - 21

Alphabet Art Rising Pre-K“Now I know my ABCs, won’t you come and draw with me?” Make the alphabet come to life through a wide variety of arts and crafts activities. Alphabet Art will expose your budding scholar to learning letter-sound relationships, letter formation and sensory experiences. Get ready for an adventure into alphabet art! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Sequins & Sparkles Quest Rising K-2Do you like all things pink and purple and glitter and glam? If so, this is the place for you! We will spend this week painting pretty picture frames, making our own colorful and glitter lip gloss, creating sparkly jewelry, painting our fingers and toenails, and adding your own personal pizzazz to a jewelry box that will be all yours! Join us for some exciting and fabulous girl time! Leader: Brittany Baliles

Beyond Building Blocks Design Quest Rising K-2Build and create structures from all sorts of fun supplies! How high can you go? How cool can you build? Your building adventures will include: creating a roller coaster for a ping pong ball using straws, using pool noodles to build obstacle courses, making side-by-side race tracks for matchbox cars, plus a mystery challenge project! Leader: Dana Sherer

Creek Walk CampSpecial Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising K-5Join us for a week of hiking trails and creek walking! We will enjoy the beauty of our mountains and investigate the wonderful critters inthe creeks we traverse. Along the way there will be camp songs, story-telling, and games. Bring a water bottle, water shoes, towel, a healthy snack, lunch to eat on the go, and quick-drying clothes. This will definitely be the “coolest” week of your summer! Leaders: Cathy & Bob Walters

Crazy for Dogs & Cats Quest Rising 1-5Do you love cats? Do you love dogs? If so, this camp is perfect for you! In this fun camp, we will learn all about different types of cats and dogs. We will make toys for our pets and learn how to take care of our pets. We will also make fun artwork (like paintings and clay) of cats and dogs. Come join the fun! Leader: Annie Jewett

Creative Cooking Quest Rising 1-5Welcome to Cafe Summer Quest! This week will be jam packed with creative cooking fun. We will cook all kinds of food, create art with food, sing songs about food, and play some great food games! Don’t forget your appetite and your apron! Leader: Patty Baer

Native American Pow WOW Quest Rising 2-5We are going to have an adventurous week! We will learn about some of our different Native American cultures; this includes learning about medicine wheels, make masks, rain sticks, discover totems, the Cherokee alphabet, and we’ll also raise a teepee on campus! Leader: Martina Zinn All Sports Quest Rising 2-5Basketball, Soccer, baseball, football, frisbee and more! In this camp we will be learning and playing a wide variety of sports. Come join us as we learn about some of the lesser known international sports, and have fun with your friends as we compete and play in a fun and safe environment. Harry Potter 2 Quest Rising 3-6Students will explore a book a day through adventure and action (book five through eight) in one of the four houses of Hogwarts. Pirate Adventures Rising Pre-KCalling all pirates and swashbucklers, adventure is calling you! Aargh you ready for treasure hunting, pirate crafts and to sail the “seven seas” at CDS? We are looking for brave and bold girls and boys for a fun week of adventure! Leader: Jairus Dolfi

Enter the Fairy Kingdom Quest Rising K-2Glittery wings and a wand will be your camp outfit in this week ofFairylicious Fun! After making our fairy costumes we will make colorful, nature-inspired fairy cottages, fairy furniture and a fairy! Hearing stories about fairies and creating our own drawings and paintings of them in their magic world will be part of the fun! Leader: Dana Sherer

BIG Messy Art Quest Rising K-2In this camp, it is not only OK to make a big mess, it is encouraged! We will have a great time covering things and ourselves with paint and being silly! We will throw paint-filled water balloons, will learn the paint foot dance, paint with pudding and spit-balls, as well as create rainbow colored slime! We will end the week with a summer themed party with treats! Old clothes are a must for the week. Camp Leader: Brittany Baliles

Pokemon Island Quest Rising 2-5Charizard or Charmeleon? Squirtle or Caterpie? Who is your favorite Pokemon? If you were heading towards an epic showdown, who would you want by your side? Wartortle or Pikachu? We will be creating our own Pokemon online, making origami Pokemon, building Pokemon out of Legos and even making Pokemon themed snacks! And, of course, we will be playing the Pokemon card game! Do you love all things Pokemon? This is the camp for you! Come join us on Pokemon Adventure Island. Leader: Susan Rana

Creek Explorers Quest Rising 2-5Discover the wonderful world of water and fun! You will travel to some watery spots for some wet adventures! Spectacular Science Quest Rising 3-5Do you love science and getting messy? This week we will learn about science with experiments and make lots of messes. We might even eat some of our experiments. Bring your curiosity and a healthy appetite for science! Leader: Jennifer Corbitt

Little Ballerinas Rising Pre-K-2Ready to dance your heart out? Plie, tendu, and grand jete’! We will be singing and twirling all week long! We will make our own tutus, fairy wings, and wands and will be ready to perform in our own ballet in just one week! We will learn about some of history’s most famous and be-loved ballerinas and we will practice, practice, practice until we are just as graceful! Won’t you come and dance with us? Leader: Susan Rana

Asheville Splash Quest Rising K-2Cool mountain water is all over WNC. Please join us as we explore some great hiking trails and streams, some famous, some unknown. We will enjoy our lunch spread out on a warm rock next to a gurgling stream. Please bring a water bottle, water shoes, bathing suit, towel, a healthy snack, and lunch. Leader: David Broshar

GIANT, Sloppy & Colorful Art Quest Rising K-3This camp will encourage a GIANT and sloppy mess! We will create neon and slimy goo, make glow-in-the-dark paint art, design giantmarble paint pictures, create vibrant splatter paint art, and even throw paint- filled water balloons. We will end the week with a summer themed party with treats! Old clothes required for this week. Leader: Brittany Baliles

Medieval Swordplay: Archery Special Hours 9:00 - 3:00 Rising 3-6Join the new martial art and sport of Boffing, where fully padded and safety tested swords, shields, bows, and arrows are used in medieval-style combat games! We will focus on swordplay in the morning and archery in the afternoon, playing games like capture the flag, arrow tag, and javelin dodgeball! Fun with Forts Rising 3-6We will spend the week outdoors constructing various types of forts in the CDS wilderness. Have you ever wondered how to construct a teepee or how to make a lean-to?
