GENERAL

This accessory kit should only be installed by trained and qualified personnel. All precautions in these instructions as well as on tags and labels must be observed in order to ensure the safety of the personnel and maintain warranty validation.

The LON Adapter is capable of interfacing with up to 5 units. These units need not be the same model or even the same type. Compatible equipment includes CH-K, CH-MG, and WFC-S series chillers and chiller/heaters. These units must each be within 1000 feet (300m) of the LON Adapter.

The LON Adapter is only capable of one input function. It can only input an Enable/Disable (Start/Stop) signal only.

The LON Adapters main function is to provide certain output data. It can provide: 1) Unit Enable/Disable Status, 2) Active Leaving Water Set Point, 3) Current Running Capacity, 4) CTI, CTO, and WTO Thermister Readings, 5) Error Code Number (if one

currently exists), and 6) Chiller Operating Mode (Cool or Heat).

The LON Adapter cannot adjust the leaving water set point. Also, while other data points exist in the LON Adapter, they are not currently supported in the UL-model chillers and chiller/heaters.

INSTALLATION

1. The LON Adapter may be mounted remote from any of the Yazaki chillers/chiller-heaters.

2. A single LON Adapter can interface with up to 5 compatible units. These units need not be the same model or type. Compatible equipment includes CH-K, CH-MG, and WFC-S series chillers and chiller/heaters.

3. With little exception, there is no dedicated space for mounting the LON Adapter within the confines of the unit. Any necessary mounting supports must be field-supplied.

4. The LON Adapter must only be installed in vertical configuration.

5. Ensure that digital communication lines are not bundled with any high voltage wiring.

6. The LON Adapter is NOT weatherproof. It may be installed outdoors only within appropriate weatherproof panels or containers.

7. The LON Adapter control box must be electrically grounded, including the chassis.

8. The kit includes mounting brackets that attach to the top and bottom of the LON Adapter. These are optional and are included only to facilitate proper permanent mounting. If these supplied mounting brackets are deemed inappropriate for where the LON Adapter is to be placed, then it is acceptable to use other field-supplied mounting methods, so long as the results pass local codes and inspections.

WIRING

A single terminal block within the LON Adapter receives all wiring connections. Terminals L1, L2/N, and PE are for the 24vac power supply. This power supply can be supplied by a separate, remote, field-supplied 24v, 75VA transformer or by using the 24V1 and 24V2 terminals in the control box.

Terminals DCP1 and DCP2 are for digital communication with the Yazaki control boards.

Terminals LON1 and LON2 are for digital communication with the LON-compatible BMS system.

The typical wiring for the LON Adapter is shown here:

Typical Daisy Chain Wiring to Gas & Water-Fired Unit Circuit Boards

Typical Daisy Chain Wiring to WFC-S Junction Box Terminals 1 & 2

The wiring indicated in the two diagrams above shows how to properly interface the LON Adapter DCP terminals to the appropriate terminals in the units being monitored.

Be aware that any mix and match of compatible units is permitted even though the diagrams all indicate essentially one type of unit being daisy chained. It is perfectly permissible to link CH-MG units to CH-K units and then to WFC-S units in any order that is desired. The key is to make certain that no two units have the same address. More on that later.

As indicated above, the WFC-S unit has its DCP terminals wired to a terminal strip in the Junction Box. At this time, only the WFC-S series has this wiring option. It is perfectly acceptable to wire WFC-S units used in a mix and match setup using the Junction Box terminal strip and wire the CH-K and/or CH-MG units to their circuit boards.

All wiring mentioned in this document is field-supplied, minimum of 18 gauge. The DCP wiring also has a maximum allowable distance of 3280 feet (1000 meters). The DCP wiring is not required to be shielded, but long runs of DCP wiring might benefit from being a shielded-type wire. Also, ensure that no wiring runs parallel to high voltage wiring for any significant distance.

CH-K and WFC-S Control Box Layout CH-K and WFC-S I/O Board, TB1 Circled

CH-MG Control Box Layout CH-MG I/O Board, TB4 Circled

When DCP wiring is being connected to circuit boards, refer to the above diagrams for location of the appropriate terminal block.

Be aware that any field-supplied wiring may be jacketed multi-conductor wiring of appropriate gauge. It may also be individual wires pulled through conduit.

Any of the compatible series may have the DCP connections made directly at the appropriate circuit board terminal block, even if the series also has Junction Box terminals for DCP (Terminals 1 & 2 in the Junction Box).

UNIT ADDRESSING

Once the LON Adapter has been mounted and the wiring completed, it will be necessary to set the unit address(es) for digital communication protocol. This is done on the CPU Board.

The units must all be set to REMOTE mode in order for the CPU to accept the remote Enable/Disable signal through the LON Network.

The LON Adapter will still function if the unit is left in RUN (Local) mode. However, while the unit remains in RUN mode, it will not respond to remote Enable/Disable signals from the LON Network.

Each unit to be monitored by the LON Adapter must be addressed differently. The addressing should be as follows:

First Unit – Address 1 Second Unit – Address 2 Third Unit – Address 3 Fourth Unit – Address 4 Fifth Unit – Address 5

Addressing on CH-K and WFC-S units is done with Dial Switch DS2. On CH-K units that use the “G” Series Control Package and all CH-MG units, addressing is done with Dial Switch S2. The dial switches are indicated here:

CH-K, WFC-S CPU Board

CH-K using “G” Series Control Package and CH-MG CPU Board
