FRINGE WORLD Festival acknowledges the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which we FRINGE and pay our respects to elders past, present and emerging.

This Pack is here to provide you with the

information you need to help you on your way

to participating as a Food Vendor within the

largest annual event in Western Australia.

FRINGE WORLD Festival is a month long

celebration in Perth, Western Australia. Since

inception in 2012, FRINGE WORLD is now

recognised as the largest arts event in Western

Australia and the third-largest Fringe in the world.

Unlike other Fringe festivals, FRINGE WORLD is unique as we run not only the festival platform (eg. delivering Festival marketing campaign

and ticketing system) but we also produce the largest Hub venues in the Festival. The programs for these hubs are programmed, representing a spread of diverse genres and a mix of shows from a range of origins, including our WA artists.

FRINGE WORLD is a not-for-profit organisation, so any profit made from the Festival is reinvested in improving the Festival and outcomes for participants.

FRINGE WORLD aims to enrich local business by

providing additional trading opportunities, and

therefore preference will be given to Northbridge

and Perth Metro bricks & mortar businesses.

MEET THEFRINGE WORLD

HUBS

The venues that the Festival manages directly are known as FRINGE WORLD Hub Venues. In these, we provide fitted out venues and program shows to go in them based on an application process.

We also provide staff, technical and production support, promotion campaigns for FRINGE WORLD Hubs, in addition to a massive marketing campaign for the Festival as a whole.

We strive to create a popular and enjoyable hub atmosphere around the venues. Our hubs are filled with bars and food vendors to fuel our partons while they enjoy the fun and entertainment.

There are five main hubs that we manage; The Woodside Pleasure Garden, The Ice Cream Factory, FRINGE Central at The Perth Cultural Centre, Yagan Square and Girls School.

Perth’s favourite outdoor FRINGE playground is The Woodside Pleasure Garden in Northbridge, home to the widest range of entertainment in the FRINGE.

Our school holiday program returns in 2020 with loads of ticketed and free entertainment happening throughout in addition to the usual evening roster of shows. Programming levels will remain consistent in 2020. Located a short ten-minute walk from the Perth bus or train station and a short stroll from the other FRINGE WORLD Hubs including The Ice Cream Factory, FRINGE Central and Yagan Square.

The home of A Midnight Visit in 2019 and Girls School Cinema over winter, Girls School launches as a full-fledged FRINGE WORLD Hub in 2020.

Home to our small to medium hard-wall spaces, Girls School will be our Hub for shows that require a quieter performance space. In 2020 we will be looking to program up to nine spaces at Girls School in venues ranging from ten to 450 person capacities, seven nights a week.

Girls School is located in East Perth, a five minute drive from the CBD and Yagan Square. It is serviced by a number of free buses including both the Yellow and Red CAT buses and standard bus services. Over 800 car park spaces are available across the road. As this is a heritage building, parts of Girls School have limited accessibility.

Sitting in the Perth Cultural Centre is FRINGE WORLD’s birth place: FRINGE Central.

The FRINGE Hub venues are pop-ups that are nestled around the existing cultural and performance spaces in the Centre; beside PICA, The Blue Room Theatre, Art Gallery of Western Australia, The State Theatre Centre, The State Library of WA and Museum of WA, in the centre of Northbridge’s entertainment precinct. In 2020 we are revitalising this Hub.

FRINGE Central is at the opposite end of James Street and shares all the handy public transport options with Perth Station, the Busport and undercover parking in the Library and Art Gallery.

The new launching pad to FRINGE WORLD, Yagan Square returns in 2020.

We heard artists feedback on Yagan Square and in 2020 we will be looking to increase the density of shows in the space and improve public amenities in the Yagan Square Hub.

Being the main ground level crossover from the CBD into Northbridge, Yagan Square has our highest levels of foot traffic. Yagan Square is home to Perth Station and the Perth Busport and is surrounded by multi-storey carparks. In 2019, more tickets were sold at our Yagan Square box office than any other box office. There will be no Australia Day programming in Yagan Square.

The Ice Cream Factory is the new home for comedy in 2020.

2020 will see a fresh imagining of our largest space: The Ice Cream Factory. We will increase our programming levels in the Ice Cream Factory to an average of seven events on weeknights and ten per night on the weekend.

Directly between The Woodside Pleasure Garden and Yagan Square, The Ice Cream Factory is serviced by bus and train and the neighbouring multi-storey Roe St Car Park.

The Exclusive Artists Club

The Budgie Smuggler, Artist Club is the late night hang out for all FRINGE WORLD pass holders. The Budgie is a safe place where artists can network, unwind and let their hair down. The Budgie acts as a home away from home for artists and is heavily relied on by all participants of FRINGE WORLD to provide a sanctuary from their busy performing schedules.

The selected Food Vendors will be expected to provide cheap but cheerful, fresh but friendly meal options at discounted rates. A rotating menu is recommended to ensure a range of menu items are available. A discounted income share rate and subsidy of fees & charges will be applied to ensure food options can be provided at the most affordable rates as possible.

The FRINGE WORLD Food Vendor Program operates on an income share basis. The following arrangements are setup to ensure accurate reportage and consistency across all Hub sites.

WE WILL PROVIDE:

1. Food vendors receive a SQUARE account and POS device from FRINGE WORLD. The food vendor is required to customise the menu items within the account to best suit their needs.

2. The food vendor will operate their food businesses, with all transactions being processed through the SQUARE system. All income will be initially collected by FRINGE WORLD.

3. Weekly settlements will be drafted for approval by both the food vendor and FRINGE WORLD. 20% of takings will be withheld by FRINGE WORLD , and the remainder paid to the food vendor in weekly instalments.

4. In addition to the site fees, the food vendor may be required to cover the cost of any equipment, services or consumables acquired. These fees and charges will be taken from the weekly payments to the food vendor.

5. Food vendors are responsible for all costs associated with the supply, production and distribution of menu items.

FRINGE WORLD prides itself on the innovation and creativity of their FRINGE WORLD Hubs, and food vendors play a huge part in the delivery of this by providing unique food offerings in appealing and vibrantly presented food stalls.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER

TYPES OF VENDORS In 2020, FRINGE WORLD is accepting applications from both permanent and casual food traders. The following options are available and preference must be detailed when applying for a FRINGE WORLD food vendor position.

FESTIVAL TRADERS Festival Traders are Food Vendors that are awarded a permanent residency position within a FRINGE WORLD Hub site. Festival Traders must be operational during all Hub operational hours of the entire Festival. Some Hub sites may have operational hours in addition to the Festival operational hours.

CASUAL TRADERS Casual Traders are Food Vendors awarded a temporary or casual position within a FRINGE WORLD Hub site. Casual Traders must be operational during the Hub site operational for the day/s allocated. These positions are only offered on select sites. Casual Traders must be completely self-sufficient and are not permitted to use any of the FRINGE WORLD facilities (including waste removal, power & water).

FOOD HUTFRINGE WORLD loves the weird, wacky, wonderful and most importantly; well-designed. Food businesses that align with the vibrancy and presentation of FRINGE WORLD Hubs will be given preference within the selection of applicants. Please note - FRINGE WORLD maintains a marquee free site, and therefore standard marquees will not be considered.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE MONDAY 28th OCTOBER 2019 (4:59pm)

FOOD FRINGE WORLD is looking for the most unique menu items in Australia to take part in the 2020 Festival. Applications demonstrating the highest quality and selection will be favoured.

OPERATIONSOnce installed, Food Vendors will not be permitted to remove any part of their food business (except for Casual Food Vendors). Applicants must have no prior commitments and have the ability to trade for the entire FRINGE WORLD Festival.

HOURSFRINGE WORLD requires food vendors to operate during all operational hours of the relevant Hub. The food vendor must be open and operate during these times.

RISK MANAGEMENTAll food vendors must adhere to all Terms, Conditions, Rules & Regulations of ARTRAGE INC, FRINGE WORLD Festival, its events, venues and sites and all governing bodies. Food Vendors must be able to prove compliancy to relevant laws and produce all required permits, licenses and insurances to ARTRAGE INC.

SUSTAINABILITYFRINGE WORLD aims to remain sustainable across all areas of operation. In an endeavour to reduce landfill waste, Food vendors must serve all food products in biodegradable or recyclable packaging. No plastic or non-combustible items are permitted on a FRINGE WORLD Hub site.

The application requires applicants to detail all information of their food business, how it operates, what it looks like and what it produces. This application is essential for FRINGE WORLD to asses how it aligns with the goals of FRINGE WORLD 2020 and if it is the best fit for the festival.

FRINGE WORLD food vendor positions are limited and therefore gaining a position is extremely competitive. Offers to Food Vendors will be based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, food offerings, presentation of your food business, price factors, alignment with FRINGE WORLD and Hub Site goals, and business reputation.

Please complete the application as thoroughly as you can to ensure we are able to accurately assess all details of your application and see how they may align with the FRINGE WORLD 2020 goals. Whilst FRINGE WORLD will attempt to provide applicants with their preferred Hubs and/or operational structure, we are unable to guarantee any details until a contract is signed by both FRINGE WORLD and the Food Vendor.

If you are successful, you will be emailed an offer. This offer will outline your proposed food vendor position and details including the dates and times of operation. You will be required to accept or reject this offer by the given deadline.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate changes and the offer is non-transferable. On acceptance of an offer you will be sent a Food Vendor Agreement which serves as a contractual agreement between the Food Vendor and ARTRAGE INC for the term detailed. Food Vendor Positions will not be confirmed until ARTRAGE INC is in receipt of a signed copy of the Food Vendor Agreement and remittance of the first payment. FRINGE WORLD has no obligation to notify unsuccessful applicants.
