Calcium – the bone mineral

Calcium is one of the most important min-eral components of bone. If the body does not have sufficient calcium available, it can-not build up bone substance. The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily calcium intake of 1,000 milligrams for adults. Good sources of calcium include milk and dairy products, broccoli and other green veg-etables, nuts and calcium- rich mineral waters. “Calcium predators”, on the other hand, are phosphates contained in many ready-to-eat meals, sausages and cola drinks.

Vitamin D3 – the sun vitamin

Vitamin D3 is the precursor of the hormone calcitriol, which is what the organism needs to absorb calcium from the intestines and incor-porate it into the bones. It is also important for muscle function, coordination, and many regulatory processes in the body. A low vita-min D3 level can not only lead to lower bone density in the long run, but can also increase the tendency to fall and thus also the risk of a bone fracture.

Vitamin K – wrongly an outsider

Very few people know vitamin K and how important it actually is for their bodies. One of its main tasks is the regulation of blood coag-ulation. In addition, vitamin K, together with calcium and vitamin D3, also ensures healthy bone formation. Fat-soluble vitamin K is found mainly in cabbage and other green vegetables.

Inulin – a dietary fiber

Inulin is a soluble dietary fiber contained in numerous types of vegetables and fruits (e.g. onions, artichokes, Jerusalem arti-chokes, black salsify, asparagus, wheat, oats, bananas, chicory) and has therefore always been part of our diet. Inulin is not decomposed by digestive enzymes and reaches the colon intact. Only there is inulin processed by the intestinal bacteria.

What is osteoporosis?

Throughout life, bone tissue undergoes remodelling processes. The body builds up more bone substance than it breaks down by about the age of 30. With increasing age, the degradation processes then increasingly

predominates. A loss of 0.5 to 1 percent per year is considered normal. The doctor does not speak of osteoporosis until the bone den-sity falls significantly below the normal level. The result is an increased tendency to bone fractures. These often occur as a result of everyday stresses and strains, such as lifting a heavy shopping bag, coughing, or support-ing yourself with your hand after a stumble. Typical fractures are, for example, vertebral bodies, the hip, the forearm, or the femoral neck. A lack of female sex hormones pro-motes osteoporosis. This is why women are particularly often affected after menopause. Nicotine, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, underweight and a diet low in calcium also weaken bones.

Why CAREIMMUN Basic®?

• optimal dosage

• increased vitamin D3 content

• additionally contains coenzyme Q10 and carotenoids

• folic acid in the form of methyltetrahydrofolate

• flexible intake

• only one capsule per day

• well-tolerated

Optimal dosageCAREIMMUN Basic® is a food supplement containing the most important vitamins, miner-als and trace elements in an optimally dosed form for the daily basic supply of essential micro nutrients.

Increased vitamin D3 contentThe German Nutrition Society (DGE) recently increased the daily requirement of vitamin D3 from 5 to 20 µg. CAREIMMUN Basic® there-fore contains 20 µg vitamin D3.

Additionally contains coenzyme Q10 and carotenoidsCAREIMMUN Basic® additionally contains secondary plant substances, so-called carot-enoids, from tomato and marigold erecta extracts, as well as the vitamin-like substance coenzyme Q10.

Folic acid in the form of methyltetrahydrofolateCAREIMMUN Basic® contains folic acid in the bioactive form methyltetrahydrofolate. Up to 50 % of people cannot sufficiently utilize folic acid. Methyltetrahydrofolate ensures an ade-quate supply.

Flexible intakeIn CAREIMMUN Basic® the micronutrients are contained in a capsule with small pellets. This has the advantage that the various micronutri-ents do not interact and thus inactivate them-selves. A further advantage is the special coating of the pellets, which ensures that the capsules can be opened and the pellets con-sumed, for example, sprinkled over food.

Only 1 capsule per day – little effortDue to the optimal dosage of CAREIMMUN Basic® and its special galenics, it is sufficient to take only one capsule a day with liquid to support the immune system.

Well-toleratedCAREIMMUN Basic® is free of lactose, gluten, gelatin, yeast, colorants and preservatives. The coloring of the pellets is based on the coenzyme Q10 content.

Healthy and balanced nutritionNutritional supplements are increasingly viewed critically, because studies have been published that link supplementation of individ-ual micronutrients to an increased incidence of various diseases. At the same time, the recur-ring mantra claims that a healthy and balanced diet more than meets the need for vitamins, minerals and trace elements.Reality shows, however, that most people do not manage this healthy and sufficient diet and therefore consume too few vitamins, trace ele-ments and minerals. Especially when every-day life is so strenuous that the body needs more of these important substances, but there is less time and thought left for procuring and consuming a healthy, balanced diet.

Man – an adaptation artistOver the millennia, humans have adapted to a wide variety of habitats – from the dust-dry desert to the icy landscapes of the Arctic. This was possible because humans, as omnivores, can survive with both very meaty and plant-rich food. In Europe it has long been a survival advantage to be able to digest milk and dairy products without any problems, whereas in other parts of the world it was not very import-ant and therefore a high proportion of the pop-ulation in these areas cannot easily break down lactose contained in milk.Although the Mediterranean diet differs greatly from the traditional Japanese diet, both diets are considered to have a particularly high health benefit based on scientific results and the high average age of the human population.

Nutrition recommendations – more confusion than helpMost countries now make recommendations for a healthy and balanced diet in the form of a food pyramid or food circle. However, some of these recommendations differed consider-ably. Sometimes fruit and vegetables should make up the largest proportion, sometimes cereal products. In addition, some foods are assigned to different groups and are therefore evaluated differently, such as nuts. In Croatia, nuts are assigned to the sugar group, in Swit-zerland to the fat group, whereas in Spain and England they are grouped together with meat, fish, beans and eggs in a protein group. Greece, on the other hand, recommends nuts together with olives and legumes in a separate group.

Food consumed much more frequently is also affected: depending on the country, beans, peas and lentils are grouped together with meat, vegetables, fruit or potatoes. Potatoes belong to the so-called homeless foods, which can be found in many different categories.

Nutrition recommendation in GermanyThe German Nutrition Society (DGE) has now introduced a three-dimensional nutrition pyra-mid which, however, gives no information about the daily recommended amounts. The nutrition circle must also be used for this pur-pose.

General informationA varied and balanced diet as well as a healthy lifestyle are of great importance.

National Consumption Study II – actual micronutrient status

The National Consumption Study II (n = 15,371) published in 2008 provides an overview of the micronutrient intake of Ger-mans.

Critical vitamins: vitamin D and folic acidThe average daily intake of most vitamins was the recommended amount. The exceptions were vitamin D and folic acid. 79 % of men and 86 % of women were below the recom-mended level for folic acid, with the proportion increasing with age. With vitamin D, 82 % of men and 91 % of women fell short of the rec-ommended 5 µg vitamin D per day – whereby the recommendation was meanwhile raised to 20 µg and the proportion of undernourished Germans was probably close to 100 %.

Critical minerals and trace elements: iodine, iron and calciumWith minerals, the supply of iodine, iron and calcium is critical. The actual iodine uptake is difficult to estimate, as it depends strongly on the amount of iodized salt absorbed. Iron intake is problematic in women of childbearing age. However, additional iron intake should only be taken if there is a proven iron defi-ciency. Surprisingly, calcium is also a critical nutrient in young women between 14 and 18 years of age and in older men and women (65 – 80 years).

What about selenium?Data on daily selenium intake were not col-lected in the National Consumption Study II – with reference to the strongly fluctuating selenium levels in food. The daily selenium intake in studies was only 42 µg selenium in men and 30 µg selenium in women. The DGE recommends a daily selenium intake of 70 µg (men) or 60 µg (women).

No iron and β-caroteneIron is an essential micronutrient that supports cell division and growth.Cancer cells are characterized by rapid cell growth and high proliferation, resulting in an increased need for iron. Iron homeostasis in tumor cells is altered at several points in order to meet this increased need for iron. There-fore, iron can contribute both to tumor devel-opment and tumor growth.β-carotene is contraindicated in smokers in particular, as studies have shown an increase in the risk of lung cancer. For this reason, CAREIMMUN Onco® does not contain iron or β-carotene.

Flexible intakeIn CAREIMMUN Onco® the micronutrients are contained in a capsule as small pellets. This has the advantage that the various micronutri-ents do not interact and thus inactivate them-selves. Coenzym Q10Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is a fat-soluble substance that resembles the fat-soluble vitamins E and K. It is also known as ubiquinone. Coenzyme Q10 can be pro-duced by the body itself if sufficient folic acid, niacin, vitamin B5, B6 and B12 as well as the amino acids phenylalanine, tyrosine and methionine are available. The human body converts relatively large amounts of coenzyme Q10 each day. The total amount in the human body depends on the supply and lies in the range of 0.5 – 1.5 g. The simultaneous absorption of fats and second-ary plant compounds increases the bioavail-ability of coenzyme Q10.

What is immunosenescence?

Immunosenescence is the age-dependent reduction of immunological competence. This includes both the capacity of the immune sys-tem to respond to infections and the develop-ment of a long-term immune memory, especially for vaccinations. Immunosenes-cence is considered to be the most important factor for increased morbidity and mortality in old age. Together with the age-dependent regression of the thymus gland, this means that the body has hardly any native T-cells available, from which specific antibodies are formed. Therefore, people are much more sus-ceptible to a variety of infections and non-in-fectious diseases in old age.

Is an adequate selenium supply important for the proper functioning of the immune system?

Selenium is an essential trace element and helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress. Its various biological effects are based on the incorporation into selenoproteins. The large number of selenoproteins in the human body plays a decisive role in the reduction of oxida-tive stress. Selenium is also important to initi-ate the body’s immunity, but also to regulate the immune response. An adequate selenium supply ensures both the innate and adaptive immune defense system. Therefore, the immune system needs selenium for normal function. Selenium deficiency can lead to a weaker immune response.

Does the uptake of nutrients change with age?

In old age, the composition of the body changes and directly influences nutrient uptake and metabolism. In addition to factors that can be influenced such as diet and exer-cise, factors that cannot be influenced also play a role. One reason for the reduced absorption of nutrients as well as micronutri-ents such as vitamins, minerals and trace ele-ments can be age-specific changes in the gastrointestinal tract. One third of elderly peo-ple have undergone degenerative gastric mucosa changes (atrophic gastritis). Clinical symptoms are usually absent.

Among other things, the lack of gastric acid can lead to bacterial overgrowth of the gastro-intestinal tract, which influences the absorp-tion of micronutrients. The consequences of missing nutrients are often not obvious and can remain undetected in the symptom com-plexes of chronic diseases and aging. It is therefore important to think about the problem of malnutrition in old age at a sufficient early stage, as lack of nutrients can have conse-quences only years later, but these are usually irreversible.

Selenium and sperm formation

Without healthy sperm, fertility is limited. Sele-nium contributes to normal sperm formation on several levels. On the one hand, selenium plays an important role in sperm formation. On the other hand, selenium protects the sperm from oxidative stress.

If it doesn’t work out with having offspring

If, despite great enthusiasm, it does not want to work out with having offspring, the reason could be the man, the woman, or both. In men, the main reason lies in the quality of the sperm, which is massively influenced by oxida-tive stress. Sperms are particularly susceptible to oxidative stress.

To protect cells from oxidative stress, the body needs selenium, among other things. Sele-nium deficiency, on the other hand, can increase oxidative stress.

Priority for selenium distribution

There is a hierarchy in the distribution of sele-nium in the human body. Where the supply of selenium is most important, the body will always try to ensure a sufficient supply of sele-nium – in concrete terms this means: in the brain and in the testicles.

Without selenium nothing works in sperm pro-duction. If there is a selenium deficiency, the sperm quality suffers.

Magnesium – for muscles and brain

Without magnesium, countless metabolic pro-cesses in the organism could not take place. Muscles (heart and skeletal muscles) and the nervous system, for example, only work nor-mally if sufficient magnesium is available to them. Magnesium also contributes to normal mental function and reduces fatigue and tired-ness.A magnesium deficiency can therefore mani-fest itself in very different symptoms. Among the best known are muscle cramps, such as in the calves or soles of the feet, and tension. But also concentration disorders, lack of energy, restlessness, headaches, menstrual problems or even cardiac arrhythmia can be a sign of a magnesium deficiency.

Stop – every battery must be recharged

Tiredness and exhaustion are a constant com-panion nowadays. In our modern high-perfor-mance society, everyday life is becoming ever more fast-moving. Not a day goes by without countless appointments. The demands of work and family with children or relatives in need of care add up. There is hardly any time to be found for body and mind to enjoy resting breaks.Nutrition can help to cope with these strains. But especially in the hectic of everyday life, many people tend to adopt counterproductive behaviors such as an unbalanced diet and too little exercise. The body needs specific micro-nutrients right now so that the inner battery can recharge itself again and again.

Vitamin C and B vitamins – against fatigue, for energy

Vitamin C, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), vitamin B12 (cobalamin) and folic acid (vitamin B9) help to reduce fatigue and signs of fatigue. Vitamin C, B6 and B12 are also essential for the normal functioning of the nervous system. At the same time, these vitamins play an important role in energy metabolism. In addition, vita-min B12 and folic acid, for example, are closely linked.Folic acid deficiency is one of the most fre-quent deficiencies in Germany. Approximately 80 % of men and women consume too little folic acid every day. The proportion rises to

approx. 90 % for people over 65. An inade-quate supply of vitamin B12 is an issue espe-cially for women. Almost 30 % consume too little vitamin B12. Despite citrus fruits, the sup-ply of vitamin C also remains an issue. In about one third of men and women, vitamin C intake per day is too low. This can have consequences, as the human body cannot store B vitamins with the excep-tion of vitamin B12 and a restricted amount of vitamin B3 (niacin). A surplus is excreted with the urine. Therefore humans are dependent on a regular supply.

How does the body adapt to pregnancy?

Oxidative stress plays an important role in pregnancy. At first, the oxygen content in the placenta is very low to support the child’s development and care. Later, the oxygen con-tent in a healthy placenta increases signifi-cantly. This change is beneficial for the further development of the child. But an increased oxygen content also leads to an increase in oxidative stress (ROS).However, the fetus is very susceptible to oxi-dative stress. Therefore, the level of antioxi-dants is also increased at the same time to maintain balance.

What causes oxidative stress?

Oxidative stress has two faces. On the one hand, it is required for the functioning of cellu-lar tasks. This includes the immune response, for example. On the other hand, an excess of oxidative stress quickly causes damage. Therefore, balance is essential.

How does selenium help protect against oxidative stress?

Selenium, as a component of selenoproteins, is an important part of the body’s protective mechanisms against oxidative stress. The majority of selenoproteins are antioxidants. The most important selenoprotein is found in every single cell. Among other things, this pro-tein breaks down the cell toxin hydrogen per-oxide into water. If the selenium supply is insufficient, the antioxidative function of sele-noproteins is severely restricted. This can have negative effects on mother and child.

Is selenium always the same?

Selenium exists in different forms, which are used differently by the human body. The most common form of selenium in food is seleno-methionine. When taken in addition to food,

however, the inorganic selenium form of sodium selenite has advantages. Sodium sele-nite is absorbed by the body through passive diffusion and quickly converted into selenopro-teins. The body can also excrete it easily through the urine.Although the bioavailability of selenomethi-onine is higher than that of sodium selenite, its utilization is much more complicated. Seleno-methionine is not recognized by the body as a form of selenium, but is confused with the amino acid methionine. As a result, selenome-thionine is incorporated unspecifically and unregulated into proteins containing sulfur. This selenium is only partially available via detours into selenoproteins, and it can also lead to an accumulation in the body.

When am I sufficiently supplied with selenium?

The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) defines all values below 80 µg/l selenium in serum and below 100 µg/l selenium in whole blood as selenium defi-ciency. The reference range for selenium is 80 – 120 µg/l in serum and 100 – 140 µg/l in whole blood.

How do I determine my selenium status?

The selenium status is best measured during a blood test at your doctor’s office, preferably in whole blood, as this value indicates the long-term supply. The serum value only reflects the current sup-ply of selenium. It can happen that the serum value still signals a normal selenium status, while a selenium deficiency can already be detected in whole blood.

biosyn Service Laboratory

The biosyn Service Laboratory offers the determination of selenium in whole blood using modern methods such as atomic absorption spectroscopy or photometry. The accuracy of the results is guaranteed by regu-lar participation in official interlaboratory com-parisons. Food supplement containing selenium as contribution to normal thyroid function

Page 33: Food supplements - s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com · CALCIVITASE® is a food supplement containing calcium, inulin and the vitamins D 3 and K. Recommended intake Adults take 1 ®tablet

33

What are the functions of the thyroid gland?

Thyroid hormones regulate the growth of newborns and the development of cells, especially in the central nervous system. But they are also effective in the nervous system of adult humans and lead to an increased excitability of cells. Overall, the effect of thyroid hormones increases energy consumption and basal metabolic rate of the organism.

Thyroid hormones act on the heart and circulation. They lead to an increase in heart rate, blood pressure and vasodilatation.

Thyroid hormones increase the protein consumption of the muscles. They also increase the energy production of the muscles and the speed of muscle tensioning and relaxation.

Thyroid hormones increase the activity of the intestinal motor function. They affect the metabolism of sugar, fat and connective tissue by increasing their conversion.

The preservation of bone substance is due to the good function of a healthy thyroid gland, as it influences the bone-building cells.

The thyroid has a positive effect on the growth of skin, hair and nails.

The hormones of the thyroid gland increase the activity of the sweat and sebaceous glands of the skin.

34

Why does the thyroid need selenium?

The thyroid gland is the organ with the highest selenium content in the body and is therefore particularly sensitive to an insufficient supply of selenium. Like iodine, selenium is essential for the thyroid gland. The hormones produced by the thyroid gland influence overall physical development. For example, they control energy and bone metabolism, digestive func-tion, cardiovascular functions and mental con-dition.

Selenium is incorporated into so-called seleno proteins. Two of these selenoproteins are essential for the thyroid gland. On the one hand, a selenoprotein is necessary to form the active thyroid hormone (T3) from the inactive form thyroxine (T4). The formation of thyroid hormones produces hydrogen peroxide, a cytotoxin. If hydrogen peroxide is not quickly broken down again, the thyroid tissue is dam-aged. Another selenoprotein is responsible for the degradation of hydrogen peroxide.

Is selenium always the same?

Selenium exists in different forms, which are used differently by the human body. The most common form of selenium in food is selenome-thionine. When taken in addition to food, how-ever, the inorganic selenium form of sodium selenite has advantages. Healthy nutrition versus adequate selenium supply

The body is supplied with all the necessary minerals it needs for those who eat a healthy diet. That is our fundamental conviction. How-ever, it appears that this is not always the case. According to the German Nutrition Soci-ety (DGE), a healthy diet looks like this (see graph).

75 % of selenium intake takes place via meat, cereals, dairy products and fish. The share of vegetables and fruit in selenium intake is only 7 %.

The comparison with the DGE requirement for a healthy diet with the distribution of a selenium- rich diet contradicts itself. Bluntly said: “The more unhealthy the diet, the higher the selenium intake.”

How much selenium does an adult need?

The German Society for Nutrition recom-mends an intake of 70 micrograms of selenium per day for adolescents and adults. On aver-age, men consume only 42 micrograms of selenium with their food and women 30 micro-grams.

38

Selenium deficiency: who is particularly at risk?

Almost 40 % of the selenium requirement is covered by meat and fish. Therefore, subopti-mal selenium supply is a common but almost never discussed problem among vegetarians. A further 15 % of the daily selenium require-ment is covered with milk, milk products and eggs. So vegans have to compensate more than half of the selenium sources. More than a quarter of daily selenium is consumed with cereal products. Those who suffer from gluten sensitivity or gluten intolerance (celiac dis-ease) should therefore also pay attention to their selenium status.

How do I determine my selenium status?

The selenium status is best measured during a blood test at your doctor’s office, preferably in whole blood, as this value indicates the long-term supply. The serum value only reflects the current supply of selenium. It can happen that the serum value still signals a nor-mal selenium status, while a selenium defi-ciency can already be detected in whole blood. If SELENMINERASE® is to be taken over a long period of time, regular selenium deter-mination is recommended.

Thymus extract powder of calf (40 %); dicalcium phosphate; filler: microcrystalline cellulose, rape oil (hardened); coating: shellac; separating agent: magnesium salts of fatty acids; coloring: titanium dioxide; separating agent: silicon dioxide, talc: extra virgin olive oil.

Recommended intake

Take one tablet three times daily without chewing.

THYMO-GLANDURETTEN can be taken long-term. It has been shown to be useful to take breaks from time to time (e.g. four weeks break after three months of use).

THYMO-GLANDURETTEN contain high-quality thymus extract

The thymus extract is produced using only glands from calves, which come from German herds free of BSE for at least four years and which are less than six months old. The age of the calves plays an important role, as the amount of active thymus peptides decreases significantly after six months.

Optimum protection of thymus peptides

Thymus peptides are sensitive to stomach acid, for example. It is therefore important to protect the thymus peptides.

THYMO-GLANDURETTEN are manufactured in such a way that the contents of the tablet are enteric and soluble in the small intestine. It is therefore important to take THYMO- GLANDURETTEN unchewed in order not to destroy the protection.

Thymus and immune system

The thymus lies behind the breastbone and plays a central role in our immune system. Special cells of our body defense system mature in the thymus and learn to distinguish between “self” and “foreign”. This “training” and “imprinting” of the immune cells is a nec-essary prerequisite for a functioning immune system. For this reason, the thymus gland is often referred to as the “school of immune defense”. In order to be able to fulfill this important task, the thymus produces a whole series of proteins, the thymus peptides.

Thymus, age and stress

Two factors influence the function of the thy-mus: age and stress. The thymus regresses in the course of one‘s lifetime, and with it the pro-duction of thymus peptides decreases. The older we get, the worse our immune system can react to new challenges.

The regression of the thymus caused by stress is added to the age-related “thymus involution”. The term “stress” includes the physical condi-tion as well as infections or therapies.

Please note

THYMO-GLANDURETTEN should not be taken simultaneously with high doses of enteric enzyme preparations (proteolytic enzymes) that act on the small intestine and are resistant to gastric juices. Destruction of the thymus extract cannot be ruled out.

THYMO-GLANDURETTEN should not be used in the case of known protein allergies.

Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a balanced and varied diet.

The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded.

It is not recommended to use during preg-nancy and lactation as well as in children under the age of twelve.

Packages

Pack of 90 tablets (content: 45 g).

Store out of the reach of small children. Protect from heat and sunlight.

Zinc and selenium – unfortunately often in deficit

A zinc deficiency often manifests itself only through rather unspecific symptoms: for exam-ple fatigue, poor concentration, decreasing performance, depressive mood or susceptibil-ity to infection. Wound healing disorders and skin changes such as acne, eczema or dan-druff often occur. Hormonal changes can reduce sexual interest and fertility.

An undersupply of selenium – similar to zinc – is noticeable in most cases due to the lack of characteristic symptoms. Possible signs include fatigue, hair loss, scaly skin, liver dys-function, muscle weakness or reduced sperm quality. The function of the thyroid gland and the immune system are impaired.

Zinc and selenium maintain, among other things, the balance of the immune system

Stress shifts the TH1 / TH2 balance of the immune system towards TH2. This weakens the cellular immune response, which is import-ant for the body’s defense against bacteria and viruses. On the other hand, an imbalance in favor of TH2 helper cells can also promote allergies.

Both a zinc and a selenium deficit have the same effect on the TH1 / TH2 balance, and can lead to a massive imbalance between TH1 and TH2 helper cells. Selenium in the form of sodium selenite promotes the TH1 helper cells. The equilibrium of TH2 can also shift again in the direction of TH1.

In summary, zinc and selenium supplementa-tion can compensate the imbalance of the TH1 / TH2 ratio and thus support the proper functioning of the immune system.

Zinc – strong for the brain

Zinc plays a decisive role in brain metabolism: no other trace element is found in such a high concentration in the brain. Zinc regulates sig-nal transmission at the synapses. Zinc is important for the cognitive functions and intel-lectual performance of the brain.

The thymus gland: Booster for the immune system

In humans, the thymus gland is located directly behind the breastbone above the heart. In puberty it reaches its maximum size with a weight of about 40 grams. With increas-ing age the organ shrinks again. This process is called involution. One consequence of the aging process is that the thymus gland pro-duces fewer thymus peptides and fewer new T-cells, which is one of the reasons why our defenses often weaken with age. Stress, unbalanced nutrition, diseases and certain medications can further increase the natural loss of the thymus gland function.

Ingredients

Thymus extract powder of calf (50 %); filling material: microcrystalline cellulose; crystalline silica: shellac; beef gelatin (capsule); zinc glu-conate; coloring agents: E 171, E 555; sodium selenite pentahydrate.

Recommended intake

Take 1 capsule per day approx. 30 minutes before a meal with some liquid.

THYMVITAL® capsules are enteric and soluble in the small intestine. They should not be taken at the same time as high-dose, enteric, small intestine-effective enzyme preparations (proteolytic enzymes), as the thymus extract may other wise be destroyed.

It has been shown to be sensible to take a four-week break, e.g. after taking THYMVITAL® for three months.

The recommended daily intake should not be exceeded.

1 drop per day is sufficient

One drop of Vit D3 biosyn® contains 25 µg or 1,000 IU vitamin D3. This means that more than the entire requirement of one day is cov-ered with just one drop.

Easy to dose, simple dose adjustment

A special dropper bottle ensures problem-free and precise dosage. If necessary, the dose can be easily adjusted by changing the num-ber of drops. This is useful, for example, if you are taking it weekly instead of daily.

The human body can store vitamin D3 well. Therefore, a weekly or monthly intake is also possible.

Well-tolerated

Vit D3 biosyn® is produced without the use of lactose, gluten, gelatine, yeast or preserva-tives. Vit D3 biosyn® contains no allergenic ingredients.

49

Vitamin D3

Only 10 – 20 % of vitamin D3 is supplied through food. 80 – 90 % of vitamin D3 is pro-duced by the body itself with the help of sun-light. Vitamin D3 is only found in limited amounts in foods. The concentration is highest in fatty fish such as salmon or herring. Cod liver oil also contains vitamin D3.

Vitamin D3 deficiency in older people

Older people may suffer from a vitamin D3 deficiency because vitamin D3 production decreases over the years.

Overdose with vitamin D3 unlikely

An overdose with vitamin D3 is not to be feared, since the active form is produced in the kidney as required and the rest of the inac-tive form is excreted.

Vitamin D3 deficiency or skin cancer?

An increase in vitamin D3 formation through prolonged sunbathing is only recommended to a limited extent, as sunburn is to be avoided because of the risk of skin cancer. The side effect of using sun cream is that only small amounts of vitamin D3 is formed, as sun creams also block UVB radiation. A sun pro-tection factor of 15 absorbs 99 % of UVB radia-tion and therefore also reduces the skin’s vitamin D3 synthesis by 99 %. Therefore, a supplementation with vitamin D3 can be useful.

What are the tasks of vitamin D3 in the body?

Cardiovascular system:

• Effects the blood vessel muscles and the cal-cium level in the blood

Contributes to healthy functioning of the immune system:

• Induces the differentiation of immune cells

• Reduces the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines

• Regulates autoimmune processes

Intestines:

• Supports the absorption of calcium and phosphate

Musculature:

• Improves the capability of muscle fibers to pull together

Bones:

• Supports bone mineralization
