Eligibility is based on intake. A referral is needed.

A hot meal is offered from 4:30-5:30 p.m. every day of the year. Christ House also has a food pantry. Persons in need of food can request assistance once every 30 days by coming to Christ House on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The amount of food distributed depends on the size of the family. Christ House requires that anyone requesting food from the pantry present identification.

CHO provides emergency food, not long-term food service. It serves the Dunn Loring, Merrifield, Oakton, and Vienna areas. The Food Closet takes referrals from Fairfax County, area churches, and individuals.

Community of Faith offers a weekly food distribution ministry. This ministry is offered in partnership with FACETS, WFCM, and the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany. On Tuesday evenings, beginning at 6 p.m., families in need of food are able to select frozen meats, bakery items, and nonperishable food items. There are no eligibility requirements. Families are welcome to come to the pantry on a weekly basis as long as they have a need. The above website has a downloadable brochure on the food program.

ECHO provides emergency food assistance to families living in the Springfield community. Eligibility is limited to those living in the following zip codes: 22151, 22152, 22153, 22015, and parts of 22150 and 22312, A referral is needed. FACETS provides emergency food assistance. This includes a hot meal every night of the year to families and individuals who are homeless and living in and around four sites along Lee Highway in Fairfax County/City. Persons seeking a hot meal can meet the Hot Meals volunteers in the Thomas Somerville Company parking area located at 9825 Fairfax Boulevard, Fairfax, VA 22030, every evening at 6:15 p.m. Identification is not required. FACETS also has a food pantry. The food pantry is open Monday through Friday from 1:00 3:30 p.m. Contact FACETS for more information.

FISH, in conjunction with member churches, has six food pantries located at the following churches: Fairfax Presbyterian Church, Little River United Church of Christ, Parkwood Baptist Church, Providence Presbyterian Church, Saint Mary's Catholic Church, and Saint Stephen's United Methodist Church. Referrals for Emergency Food
Families with a referral from a social service provider or agency, including social worker, clergy, hospital, or school for emergency food can receive three to five days worth of free food. Food for Others will accept up to six emergency food referrals per family each year. Each referral must be sent to Food for Others via FAX (703-207-9204). Once received, the referrals are kept on file for two weeks as the intent is to provide food for an emergency only.
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Supplements Program
The USDA food is provided to Food for Others by the U.S. government. No food substitutions are allowed. Families may return once per calendar month for USDA food packages. USDA packages are based on the size of the household. Recipients must be Virginia residents and meet financial guidelines stated on the application form (provided in Spanish and English). It is the familys responsibility to report changes of address, household members, and income level if they occur during the year.

Anyone in need of food may come to one of the following Fairfax County sites at the times specified. Families are asked for the number of people in their household. Families should bring their own grocery bags.

JMCAP feeds approximately 100 families per week by distributing groceries from the facility and delivering to those who have become ill and unable to visit the facility. JMCAP serves individuals and families primarily in western Fairfax County, Region 4 Human Services, and the JMCAP Conservation District - Area 3 (Zip Codes: In-area: 22015 and 22039; Out-of-area: 22015, 22030, 22031, 20120, 20121, and 20151).

Koinonia serves families in the Franconia and Kingstowne areas. Clients must register with Koinonia by calling the above number to schedule an appointment with a social worker. They can then receive canned food, dry goods, a limited supply of meats and dairy products, cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, and baby supplies from Marys Food Pantry.

Our Daily Bread (ODB) provides short-term emergency food assistance to residents of Fairfax County. Eligibility is based on initial intake and referred families generally receive assistance for four months. Families not currently working with a social worker or case worker can call Fairfax County Coordinated Services Planning at 703-222-0880 to be screened for eligibility. Food assistance generally consists of a two week supply of nonperishable food items, toiletries, and cleaning products from ODBs pantry. The offices and food pantry are open Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., and the first Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

2-1-1 Virginia is a service provided by the Virginia Department of Social Services in partnership with the Council of Community Services, the Family Resource and Referral Center, The Planning Council, the United Way of Central Virginia, and the United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg. This is an easy to remember phone number connecting people with free information on available community resources.

The food stamp program (now called SNAP) provides financial support to help families purchase food. Program participants receive an electronic card (like an ATM card) that can be used to purchase food at most grocery stores. SNAP is administered by Fairfax County Department of Family Services (DFS). See the link given above for more information, including eligibility criteria. Eligibility is determined based on family size, income, assets, and other program guidelines. Referral is not needed. The special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a short-term program providing supplemental food and nutrition guidance to pregnant women and families with young children. Program participants receive vouchers that can be used to purchase nutritious foods rich in protein, iron, calcium, and Vitamins A and C. Participants also receive nutrition education. In Fairfax County, WIC is administered by the Health Department. Free and reduced price lunches and breakfasts (where offered) are available to students unable to pay the full price of meals. Eligibility is based on household size and income. Referral is not needed. Applications are available in the front office of all schools or at the link listed above.

Through Fairfax County Summer Meals Program, free, nutritious breakfasts and lunches are served to children aged 4 to 18, as well as persons with disabilities over age eighteen who participate in school programs for people who are mentally or physically disabled, in Fairfax County. These meals help children on free and reduced lunch get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months when they are out of school. Referral is not needed. Check the above link in May or June for a list of sites offering summer meals.

Catholic Charities Self Help and Resource Exchange (SHARE) Food Network http://www.sharedc.org
SHAREs mission is to provide quality food packages monthly to families at a reduced cost. It is not an emergency assistance program. Families can pay $20 and perform two hours of community service to receive a SHARE package filled with high quality and fresh groceries. The value of the SHARE package is $40 - $50. Families can pay for a SHARE package with cash, money orders, organizational checks, food stamps, or an EBT card. The SHARE program is hosted by community organizations and churches throughout the United States.
