Head Football Coach Career Record: 230-90-4 • 29 YearsRecord at FAMU: 32-13 • 4 Years

Florida A&M University head football coach Joseph “Joe” Taylor has returned the Rattler program to the ranks of the elite in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, and has the team poised contend for a spot among the top teams in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) after just three seasons at the helm.

Taylor, who has fashioned a Hall of Fame career over 28 seasons as a collegiate head coach, believes that true professionalism, high character and great work ethic are the foundation for a successful program.

Now in his fifth season at FAMU, Taylor, who is a four-time Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year (1997, 2004, 2005, 2006), has been a smashing success in his brief time heading the Rattler Football program.

Last season FAMU finished with a 7-4 overall record and a 5-3 record in conference play

for a third place finished in the MEAC.

In his inaugural season at FAMU (2008), Taylor and his Rattlers missed having an unblemished season by 17 points, finishing 9-3 overall and a 5-3 in conference play good, for second in the MEAC, after a disastrous 3-8 finish the previous year (2007) – marking one of the best one year turnarounds in the country.

The following season (2009), the Rattlers finished 8-3 overall and 6-2 in the MEAC, good for a second place finish in the league.

That club produced the 2009 MEAC Offensive Player of the Year in Curtis Pulley and the Division I FCS All-Time Punt Returner for TDs in LeRoy Vann, who finished his career with eight (8) TD runbacks, surpassing Kenny Shedd (1989-92) of University of Northern Iowa, while tying the NCAA single season TD punt return record with five (5) set by North Carolina A&T’s Curtis DeLoatch in 2001. He also finished his career with 11 total TDs on kick returns, including the three (3) on kickoffs he tallied in 2008.

In 2010 Taylor became the most successful coach in school history as he became the first coach in school history to win

25 games in his first three years at FAMU.

That season the Rattlers finished the regular season 8-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play, earning a share of the 2010 MEAC Championship (along with Bethune-Cookman and South Carolina State) – the Rattlers’ first title in nine years.

In addition, Taylor and his team handed archrival Bethune-Cookman their only regular season loss, 38-27 in the 31st Florida Classic at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., capping off a six-game winning streak to close the season.

To date, Taylor’s career coaching record of 229-91-4 (.712) places him on the national level as the second winningest active coach in the Division I FCS (formerly I-AA) when ranked by total victories, and sixth when ranked by winning percentage.

TAYLOR’S WORKING CAREER….
