flashbacks and flash forwards
TRANSCRIPT
Flashbacks/flash forwards The difference between the both of them and the way to
determine which is which. How to make it clear to my
audience exactly which one it is?
Flashback in Scooby Doo
For example here they used a edit to make it look as through they are
going back time. And then the edit goes the opposite way for when it
goes to the present day. They also can used dialogue such as ‘do you
remember’ to show that its in the past. They are used in this video to
show that they haven't seen each other for a while, so they are filling
each other in on there life's. There verbally speak it to the other
character. However the audience get to visually get to see it, so we can
understand it and get hints from facial expressions and shot types, that
soft of thing. This hints that his life wasn’t so good beforehand so the
gang might get back together, this foreshadows that they have missed
eachother because life is no longer the same.
What are flash back are why are they used?
This is the opposite to a flash forward this take the narrative
back in time. It is giving you a hint towards why a person is
acting the way they are acting, or trying to help us justify what
they are doing. It is usually a crucial backstory and recounts
events that have previously happened before the start of the
movie. They are used to add structure to the narrative, add
suspense and develop a character. Camera techniques are
also used to ensure that the audience understand it is a flash
back, so that they do not get confused for example they may
used a discoloured screen to empathises the time if it was in
the 1900’s.
Flash forward in Harry Potter
For example when going forward in time they usually use text to show
how many years in the future that it is. Also they change the
characters, they age them so you know its in the future. For example
in this they give them children. This is the end of the sequence it gives
the creates of a movie a chance to create another film if they really
wanted to as it leaves in on a clip hanger, and it gives the predicted
outcome that everyone want. They are not necessarily going to do
another one, but since they have left it this way it means that they
could have the opportunity to if they wanted. Whereas if they had
killed all the characters of it would of disappointed the audience and
would mean they couldn’t do another movie if they wanted too. So
they do this to please the audience.
What are flash forwards and why are they
used?
This is where the narrative of a movie is forward in time. They
hint/ foreshadow something that is going to happen. They add
enigma because you want to know why you are shown the
middle of the movie first, it makes you want to continue to
watch it. They reveal significant part to the story line or your
told something the character does not know, which is
frustrating but it makes you still want to watch. However they
are not really in big detail but they make it short and brief so
that not too much is given away. Then when the actually event
occurs its in greater detail.
