CYCLE COUNTER

Now that the 918 series and the DishDrawer have cycle counters on them it is importantfor us to have all warranty claims for these product with the number of cycles written onthe claim form. This is to go in the box for serial number of failed compressor box onthe claim form. If you are unable to decipher the hexi decimal code just write in thehexi decimal code itself.

It is also important for our Warranty data that the fault code for 918 and 818dishwashers be included in the Electronic Fault Display Detailed Fault Code box on theclaim form.

Example of Claim Form Section:

AIR PUMP

In the early version of the Service Manual we describe how to service the lid seal airpump. This is no longer necessary as individual spare parts are no longer available. Ifan air pump fails then just replace the entire pump.

MICROSWITCH LEVER KIT

If you come across any microswitch levers that are not operating correctly in the fieldthere is now a kit available for just the lever and the tensioning spring. The Part Numberis 525896. Previously the Electronic Controller Assembly had to be replaced.

PARTS TO BE RETURNED

The Range & Dishwasher Division is now including Freepost self addressed stickerswith DishDrawers parts they require back from the field. Please fill in the enclosed formand have these sent direct to Dunedin.

F1 FAULT

If you come across a DishDrawer with an F1 fault and it is only displayed in the onedrawer, do not assume that it was that particular drawer that failed. There are twoswitches on the flood switch, one for the top drawer and one for the bottom drawer.Depending on how quickly water filled the base pan will depend on whether both oronly one drawer faults. Normally both switches will activate at the same time or, onlyone drawer will be in operation at one time.

LOCKING NUT

The foot locking nut has now been changed to an M8 Hex Nut. This replaces the squarepressed nut which was difficult to reach with a spanner and was winding itself in duringtransit causing the foot to be overtightened. This will also make it easier to adjust wheninstalling the product.

LID SEAL CHANGE

As from Serial Number AID525941 there will be a change in the lid seal and the tub. This change will affect the interchangeability of the new lid system with the present tub.

The new system improves the sealing effectiveness of the silicon gasket presently beingused by using an overlapping gasket as opposed to the joint being left relativelyexposed.

Figures 1, 2.

The following differences in the lid should be noted:The T joint has been replaced with a straight connector, part number 525873.The new gasket is slightly longer and has a blind end, part number 525 878.The small rubber deflector has been eliminated.

TUB ALTERATIONS

Figures 3, 4.

The new tub can be identified from the present tub by the difference in the number ofholes in the rear flange.

INTERCHANGEABILITY

At present any Dishdrawer that requires a replacement tub can use the new tub.

The new lid is also interchangeable with machines produced from Serial NumberLLD526552 provided a lip on the tub is cut off during servicing.

Figures 5, 6.

The new lid and tub have been introduced from Serial Number AID525941.

When replacing a lid on any product prior to Serial Number AID525941, a new gasketand straight connector will also be required.

BOTTOM DRAWER RUBBING ON CHASSIS

We have found that if a DishDrawer is being trucked on a hand cart when not in itscarton, it is possible to put a bend in the base pan. This could cause the wiring cover onthe bottom drawer of the product to rub on the chassis. If this is encountered, bend thebase back down again by hand so it will clear the wiring cover.

ADDED CLIP TO DISHDRAWER RACK

An extra clip has been added to the Mega Rack in the DishDrawer. This is to prevent itfrom falling down and jamming the spray arm during the wash if the main clip is notfitted into place correctly. The extra clip is located on the centre rail of the base rack.

FILTER PLATE LOCKNUT

There has been a change introduced to the locknut and filter plate and the two types oflocknut are not interchangeable.

From serial number AID525892 use part number 525883 locknut.Prior to serial number AID525892 use part number 525308 locknut

If ordering a filter plate assy, part number 525807, then this will fit any machine.

CD ROM 599031

The service manual in CD ROM is now available under part number 599031. It isavailable to all Authorised Service Centres at a nominal cost of $15.00.

DIAGNOSTICS 599034

For extra copies of the diagnostics pages for the Test Procedures book, please orderthem under part number 599034.

918TD / 818S DISHWASHERS

918TD / 818S LOW WATER PRESSURE

We have received some complaints of poor wash performance in the field and oninvestigation have found that the trouble was due to the water pressure being too low.The symptoms that may arise due to low water pressure problems are:

* Poor wash performance* No heating during cycle* Noisy wash (machine is till ventilating due to an under fill)* The soap dispenser had not opened

Range & Dishwasher DivisionFisher & Paykel LimitedDukes Road, Mosgiel, DunedinPrivate Bag, Mosgiel, DunedinPhone 03 489 3819, Fax 03 489 7611

COPYRIGHT FISHER & PAYKEL LTD 1998

Page 11: Fisher-Paykel DW Bulletins

All, or some, of these symptoms could have happened due to low water pressure. Themachine has a maximum fill time of 2 minutes. (This is to prevent the machine over-filling on high water pressure). After that time, if the machine has not filled to thecorrect level, it will turn the inlet valve off and continue washing with the water alreadyin the tub. When this happens, as a safety measure the electronics turn the element off.(This is in case there is very little water in the tub).

To check the water pressure without using a pressure gauge, fill the machine, then drainthe water into a bucket with litres marked on it. There should be 4.5 – 5.5 litres in thebucket. If there is less, the water pressure is too low. If the machine is a 918TD, checkthe hot water pressure as well as the cold just in case it is only one of the water suppliesthat is the problem.

As a suggestion, to help the water flow it is possible to fit a 12mm diameter inlet hose. These are available as a laundry hose under part number 426123.

918TD / 818S SOFTWARE CHANGE

As from serial number AID335132 there have been a number of software changes to beaware of. These include:

* The pre-set over temperature value has changed from 90oC to 84oC.* The F5 fault is now removed.* A shorted sensor now reads 0oC instead of 35oC.* An open circuit sensor now reads 96oC instead of 78oC.* The minimum fill time is now 60 seconds instead of 50 seconds for all cycles

except Normal and Eco. This should reduce the noise and reduce the amount ofwater topping up later in the cycle.

The software that has these changes is now Version two. To identify which versionsoftware a particular machine has:

Press the HEAVY WASH button when in Diagnostics Mode. The display will show the version number and the normal LED will be on.

TRIM COLOUR

The white DishDrawer now has a grey front trim, although in early production it wasblack. The stainless steel and integrated models continue to have a black trim.

RINSE AID INDICATOR LIGHT

When using yellow rinse aid it is possible to see the red indicator light through the rinseaid even though the dispenser is full. The yellow rinse aid is a very transparent liquidand does not have the properties to block out red light.

The condition is normal and the rinse aid dispenser need not be replaced unless it isproven that the float inside the dispenser is not being activated as the rinse aid levelrises.

DRAIN HOSE CABLE TIE

Currently all DishDrawer product have a cable tie around the drain hose clip on the baseof the tub. It is important when servicing in this area to ensure that the cable tie is re-fitted to the clip.

It is not necessary to cut the cable tie to remove it. It is possible to slip it over theretaining clip on the base to allow removal of the drain hose, then slide it back on againafter re-fitting the hose.

Rotor 525736

When fitting a new rotor to a machine that was manufactured prior to serial numberAID525894 it will be necessary to also fit a new filter plate locking nut part number 525883.The new rotor is not compatible with the old lock nut.

Drying fan 525219

There has been some warranty claims submitted for a customer complaint of hearing anoise for some time after the cycle has completed. This is quite normal as the drying fanruns for 30 minutes after the completion of a cycle ( all cycles including the rinse only ). Atthe same time the LCD screen backlight turns off and ‘00’ is displayed as the timeremaining. However if the drawer is opened during this time the fan will stop as it isassumed the dishes have been unloaded. It is important that telephone staff are familiarwith this as it will prevent an unnecessary service call.

Seal P/N 525839The seal between the top of the tub and the integrated drawer front (for integrated modelsonly) is available as a spare part.

Air pump mount 525478

Due to the number of air pump mounts falling off in transit the length of the fold at the endof the mount has been increased. The new mount will fit on to an old exhaust valvebracket provided the rubber mount has a small section cut out of it allowing it to slide allthe way over the exhaust valve bracket.

TEMPERATURE READ OUT 818 ONLY

It is possible to read the temperature of the tub / resistance of the sensor through theelectronic controller in diagnostics. This is done by:

Enter diagnosticsAdvance to the fast cycle /test cyclePress the fast wash button

The LED’s will display the temperature in binary form as follows:Rinse LED 4Fast wash LED 8Normal wash LED 16Heavy wash LED 32Eco Save LED 64

FAULT DISPLAY 818

A number of claims have been received where the customer’s complaint is “machinebeeping and rinse light on”. The technician then goes on to say the fault code is therinse light on. When the machine first faults it will beep continuously but the light thatis on indicates the current cycle the customer is using, not the fault code. A number ofElectronic Controllers have been replaced without the technician entering diagnosticsand retrieving the current fault code.

All claims that do not have the fault code in the appropriate box on the claim and havean electronic controller replaced will have the payment for the claim held until the faultcode is retrieved from electronics. If when entering diagnostics there is no current faultcode in the memory then a reasonable description of the technicians description of thefault they diagnosed will be sufficient.

MICROSWITCH LEVER KIT P/N 525896

As mentioned in a previous bulletin the microswitch lever is available as a spare partincluding the spring. To identify the latest lever, the colour of the lever is green.

It is imperative that when servicing a Phase 1 DishDrawer a Lever Kit is fitted to theelectronic controller if it does not have a green lever.

The spring provided in the kit is softer than the earlier springs, therefore must bereplaced in conjunction with the lever.

DD601V2

Production has started on the DD601V2 now and parts and service manuals will bemailed out shortly.

The Parts Manual covers Version 1and Version 2 so it will not be necessary to keep bothParts Manuals. This manual also incorporates the USA parts where applicable.

The Service Manual is similar but there are enough changes to require a complete newmanual.

The main changes from Version 1 are:- Quantum is now written on the upper door panel- The EMI filter is positioned at the rear of the machine- The microswitch is located on the LH slide at the rear and wired in series with the

exhaust valve- The motor now has a rotor position sensor fitted to the stator- Motor speeds are now 2300rpm delicate, 2850rpm heavy, 2500rpm normal, fast

and rinse

The tub tool and pen tool diagnostic programmes are not compatible but all those whohave registered will receive the updated version.

The updated version is compatible with all DishDrawers.

INTEGRATED BADGE

The integrated badge now has an earthing lead attached to it due to the possibility ofstatic discharge from the user to the badge. The earth wire attaches to the mountingpanel on the front of the machine by means of a spade terminal. If there are any productin the field that are having this problem then a new integrated badge and front mountingpanel will be required.

The P.C.B. plastic case will be changed from the blue colour to white from 1 December1998 on 918TD and 818 models. Otherwise the controller remains identical.

“NO FAULT FOUND” CONTROLLERS

Due to the large number of controllers being received back without any fault, we will besending back controllers and reversing the credit for the part when we cannot find a faultin the unit, so PLEASE make sure that all checks are carried out correctly beforechanging the controller.

DISHDRAWER

AIR PUMP & EXHAUST VALVE TEST V2 DISHDRAWERWith the change in position of the draw microswitch from the controller at the front tothe rear of the left hand drawer runner, and the microswitch now being in series withexhaust valve, it is not possible to operate the DishDrawer in diagnostic mode withoutfirst activating the microswitch.

This can be achieved by removing the left hand rail pin and sliding the rail back until itis fully home, thus activating the draw microswitch. Once this has been done, theDishDrawer can be operated in Diagnostic mode.

LID TABSWhen the lid for the DishDrawer is being removed please ensure that the tabs are pushedfully back so they do not catch on the locking plate. Some lids have been returned withthe tabs missing. The best method is to use two screwdrivers, one to push the tab backand the other to lever the lid down. When refitting the lid, ensure that the tab is fullyforward once installed. This will stop the lid falling out and alleviate the need for areservice.

MICROSWITCH LEVER ON CONTROLLERSDue to a shortage of the green plastic material used to make the lever for version 1DishDrawer, there will be a short run made in white. The material used is of the samespecification as the green; and the portion of the arm visible to the service person will bemarked with a green permanent marker to signify the current version.

PART RETURNSPlease ensure when returning parts that you include the claim form. We have had someinstances where this is not happening. If you want a prompt payment please put theclaim form with the part.

BURSTING OF INTERNAL INLET HOSEIt has been noted that we have had some cases of internal inlet hoses bursting. Theseare the hoses that come from the inlet valves to the detergent dispensers.

This has been caused by the hose being blocked or crimped in some way, as it is only alow-pressure hose it cannot handle mains pressure. The possible cause of a kink is thehose incorrectly positioned behind the tub, and when the draw is closed it crushes thehose. Make sure when you are checking for this problem that the hoses do not crossover each other behind the tub. Another possible cause is the restrictor coming out ofthe valve and becoming lodged in the hose, causing mains pressure to build behind it.Refer to the picture below (next page) for correct hose position.

RAST (EDGE CONNECTOR) PLUGSWhen reconnecting these plugs on the internal components of the DishDrawer, bewareof the terminals inside the plug being bent back and causing a fault to occur. This canbe avoided by ensuring that the plug is fitted to the component square on and not on anangle. If a fault does occur after the machine has had a component change, it would payto check for this problem. If the plug terminal is damaged, a new harness should befitted.

DISHDRAWER ROTOR CHANGEThere was a change in the rotor as from Serial Number AID525892 onwards. The change is in the plastic cover just under the wash impeller, and will alleviatepriming problems encountered in some earlier machines. The new rotor isinterchangeable with the earlier ones provided a new filter plate and lock nut arealso fitted. To avoid confusion, we are making up a Version 1 kit as shownbelow:

If you order Part Number: You will receive:525736 V1 Rotor 525884 V2 Rotor & 525882 filter plate & lock nut525884 V2 rotor 525884 V2 Rotor only

MYSTERY F4 FAULT ON V1 DISHDRAWERThe V1 DishDrawer has a latching safety circuit that latches out during a poweroutage/fluctuation. When this occurs, the earth safety relay will remain out, therefore isolating the heater plate from the AC supply. During the next washafter this occurs, an F4 fault will occur.

There is a simple test to determine whether there is a faulty module. Switch thepower off at the wall for three seconds, then back on again, then go into thediagnostics mode and carry out an element relay test. Switch the element relayon to see if the element heats. If it does, the problem was caused by a poweroutage/fluctuation.

If it does not, the earth leakage relay may be latched out. Turn the power off atthe wall for thirty seconds, then turn it back on again and carry out the sameelement relay test in diagnostic mode. If the element comes on during thesecond test, but did not during the first test, the controller is faulty and will needto be replaced. The earth leakage relay should have relatched within threeseconds.

If the element did not heat during either test, carry out the tests for an F4 fault asshown in the flow chart in your service manual.

MODELS 918 & 818 WASH PERFORMANCEWe have just completed testing of the labyrinth plate in the above dishwashersafter receiving a number of warranty claims for these parts becoming blocked. The reason we had them in the sump was to smooth out the water flow into thewash pump to allow the machine to see prime in the wash pump, allowing for amore accurate fill level. We have found that removing this part actually makesvery little difference to the fill level, so if removing the filter plate for cleaning, please remove the labyrinth plate and leave it out. This will save on nuisancecall outs.

MODELS 918 & 818 TOP BASKETSIt has been found that the top basket has, in some cases, been interfering withthe top spray arm, causing wash performance problems. The reason this hashappened is the way the basket has been welded along the bottom, causing abow in the bottom rail. The fault is not apparent when the basket is empty, butwhen it is loaded with dishes it interferes with the top spray arm. If this problemis encountered, simply remove the basket, turn it upside down and discretelystand on it (gently) until the bottom is straight.

TUB GRAPHICS ON DISHDRAWERWe have seen instances where the program graphics have been coming off thetubs. At present we are working on a fix for this problem and would ask that arecord be taken of all customers who have this problem. Please inform themthat a fix is on the way, and is expected to be available by early April.

U3 FaultsWe have been receiving controllers back from the field for U3 faults and findingno fault with them, but they are showing low pressure in the display. The reasonthe U3 fault can occur is that when the machine is on a high pressure watersupply and is accidentally switched to low pressure, it sees prime too quicklyand shuts down to prevent a flood.

This can happen through the customer going into the rinse aid setting option byopening the drawer and placing their fingers on the Eco and Program settingsfor 5 seconds until a beep is emitted and the display turns red and shows HP inthe display. Once in this mode, the customer can change the rinse aid settingby pressing the program touch switch. When exiting this mode they shouldpress the power button, but if they press the start pause button, this will changethe water pressure setting to LP. If they then exit the mode by pressing thepower button, the drawer is set for a low pressure water supply. Please checkfor this problem before replacing the controller.

Please read the following Technical Update as it has information that haschanged since the mail out that we sent out earlier in the month.

TECHNICAL UPDATE

DD601V2 DISHDRAWER DRYING FANSRecently, with the exceptionally hot weather we have been experiencing, wehave received reports of the drying fan coming on at times other than during thedrying cycle. This is, however, a normal function for the fan to activate in highambient temperatures, the reason being that it provides cooling for the heat sinkand element relay in the controller.

If a customer calls with this complaint, ask them to take a note as to what roomtemperature the fan is coming on at and the serial number of the machine. Thefan operating at temperatures above 31° Celsius is normal. Machines with theSerial No. AUD?????? to Serial No. NFD?????? inclusive will have controllersthat switch the fan on at lower temperatures. If customers have concerns aboutthe fan activating at times other than during the drying cycle in machines withinthis serial number range, an authorisation number must be obtained from yourlocal technical representative, and a replacement controller fitted. Controllersare available from your local parts distributor. Please return your faultycontrollers with the warranty claim form. Controllers with serial numbers after525832041418 have been modified. The main hardware change is that the fanwill not be activated out of cycle, but will still carry out its operations as normal. At this point it must be noted that the fan does keep running for 30 minutes afterthe LCD shows (OO). This is part of the normal operation of the machine andcan be stopped by the customer opening the drawer.

TIGHT BASKETSMachines made between serial numbers NSD?????? and NHD?????? may befound to have baskets that are tight to pull out. It has been found, especially onthe top basket, that the axle mounts have not been bent correctly and thereforecause the roller and axle to sit on an angle in the track. This causes the roller tobind. Straightening the wire wheel mount so that it sits square to the rail willrectify this. Also check that the tub rollers through which the track moves areparallel with each other and are at right angles to the side wall.

BROKEN FOOT AND FOOT HOUSINGSJust a reminder to please return all broken feet and foot housings for us toanalyse, as we are having a number of these components being broken intransit. This will allow us to determine the cause of the problem as soon aspossible.

MYSTERY F1 FAULTSWe have been seeing, through warranty claims, an increasing number of F1faults where no cause can be found. The service technicians are finding waterin the base of the machine but cannot find the leak. In our experience we havefound leaking basket rollers, loose fill vent nut, or loose door gasket screwsusually cause these problems. To check for this type of fault, it is necessary toremove the wrapper. If the machine has been leaking from these points, one ofthe tell-tail signs will be a white detergent residue stain. Please check for thesefaults as it saves an annoying reservice.

AIR PUMP FAILURES

DW011April 1999

COPYRIGHT FISHER & PAYKEL LTD 1999

Page 29: Fisher-Paykel DW Bulletins

Field returns from New Zealand and Australia show that the air pump canoverheat and melt. This failure mode may show F7 (motor controller) error code,or possibly F1 (flood).

Cause:The origin of this failure is with the controller, not the air pump itself. The airpump coil is normally supplied with a chopped waveform, and if this faults to fullvoltage then the coil overheats and melts the relatively thin walled pump parts.

The reason for the controller failing is believed to be due to a voltage surge onthe electrical supply, e.g. by lightning. However, the details are still uncertain. In some cases the controller can recover after it has failed.

To clarify the picture, it would be helpful if field staff could provide certainadditional data on the warranty form, particularly:

• Error code displayed? (F1/F7/other).• Was the machine washing or in standby when the error code came up?• Was there a power surge or lightning storm within 12 hours before the

failure?• Number of wash cycles performed (cycle count).

Solution:• Replace air pump.• Replace controller, even if no F7 shown.• Check coil of Exhaust valve as well. It must not be distorted.

RANDOM BEEPING AND FAULT CODES OR CYCLE RESETTINGIn initial production of the 920 and 820 controllers we used a socket mounted micro-processor. It has been discovered that a few of these up until product serial number. NRD316408 were not seated correctly. We have reworked a large percentage of these productsbut one or two may have slipped through.

When checking that the microchip is seated right down, please observe static protectionprecautions to avoid damage to the controller at a later date. Also check that all theprocessor pins are located in properly and none are bent over or damaged.

The earth terminal on the wash motor not being clean can also cause this random fault.Remove the spade terminal and check that the motor varnish has not coated and insulatedthe motor earth.

DISHDRAWER NOT SENSING PRIME AND OVER FILLING, ORRETAINING WATER AFTER DRAIN CYCLEFurther to last month’s bulletin, the following is a list of checks to carry out if a DishDrawerwith one of the above problems is encountered:½ Check the rast connection from the hall sensor where it connects onto the controller.

Make sure the connector is not damaged, loose or corroded (version 2 only). Make surethe flow restrictors are not missing from the water inlet valve. These restrictors are fittedinto the outlet side of the water valve and are used to restrict the amount of incomingwater to around 4 litres per minute.

½ Check for obstructions in the drain hose, kinked, blocked etc.½ Check the water fill setting. Make sure it is not set on low pressure when the DishDrawer

is connected to high pressure.

MODULE PACKAGINGWe have found that it is no longer necessary to use anti-static bags to package DishDrawercontrollers. The plastic housing of the controller, along with the cardboard box it is packed in,gives sufficient protection for the controllers against static damage. It is, however, veryimportant to still take all the usual anti-static precautions when handling the controllers. It isalso important, when returning failed modules for service, that they are returned in the originalcarton they were supplied in.

CORRECT VENTING OF THE INTEGRATED DISHDRAWERIt has been found a number of integrated DishDrawers have been installed without the correctgap between the top and bottom drawer fronts. It is vital that there is a 6mm gap between thetwo drawer fronts to allow for correct venting during the drying cycle. We will be updating theinstallation instructions to clearly show this dimension and a different procedure to followwhen fitting the integrated drawer fronts to better ensure this 6mm gap is obtained. Theupdated installation instructions will not be available until September. We have thereforeattached just the integrated section of the new installation instructions for the doubleDishDrawer explaining this new procedure. Please refer to the complete installationinstructions when they become available, P/N 599067 for the double DishDrawer and P/N599068 for the single DishDrawer.

CYCLE TIME CHANGES

As from serial number NED539653 in May 1999, there was a software changemade to the DishDrawer modules, which increases the length of the dry time. This may be encountered if a module is replaced in a version two DishDrawermanufactured before the above serial number. It would be noticed, for example, that when selecting a normal wash, the cycle time that comes up in the displayis now 99 minutes whereas it was previously 89 minutes. This could possibly beof concern to a customer with a double DishDrawer who selects the same cycleon both drawers and finds the times are now different. If the customer will notexcept this, then contact your Technical Representative and arrange for them todown load the latest version software into the other module.

LEAKING FROM LOOSE TUB ROLLERS

Loose Tub roller suds have been the cause of a number of leaks in DW920 / 820 dishwashersin recent times. As a result, we have changed the tub roller screw and tapping plate back tothe finer threaded version, Part Numbers 388255 Plate Tapping & 388245 Roller Stud Tub,previously used in 918TD products up until November 1998. This change took place in June2000 from serial number DRD362835 and will help prevent leaks in this area.

It should be noted however that once tightened correctly, the course threaded screw andtapping plate we had been using will seal satisfactorily. Care should be taken not to strip thethreads when tightening these screws. They are factory tightened to 3.5NM and testing hasshown that the torque must drop below 1NM before a leak will occur.

SQUEALING ROTORS

We have received several claims recently for the replacement of rotors that have squealedwhen the machine is run for the first time. Please note that this is quite normal. The rotormay squeal within the first minute of use after a product is installed, as the rotor bearings aredry until the product fills with water for the first time.

DISHDRAWERDISHDRAWER DOESN’T BEEP AND LCD DOESN’T LIGHT UP WHEN THETUB IS OPENED

The serviceman should check that the customer hasn’t intentionally or accidentally deactivatedthe Drawer Open Beep Indication feature.

As well as turning off the beeps that signal the drawer is open, this feature also prevents the LCDdisplay from lighting whenever the drawer is opened (or the LED lights on an Integrated product).

If a customer wishes to use their DishDrawer in this mode, they need to press the power buttonto turn the product on. If a customer wants to take their product out of this mode, they need tofollow the instructions in the Use & Care Book. This entails entering the Option AdjustmentMode and pressing the Key Lock button to get the smiley face symbol showing, then pressingthe Power button to exit and save.

We will be making changes to the Use & Care book in the future to better explain this feature. We will also be changing the name of this feature to the Auto Power feature.

DISHWASHERNEW FLOOD SWITCHFrom serial number DYD373580, a new flood switch assembly, part number 521795, has been introducedto all DW920 & 820 Dishwashers. The new flood switch will maintain a more accurate flow of lowcurrent to the controller and thus prevent false tripping. If replacing a flood switch in a DW920/820product, one of these new flood switches must be fitted. The new flood switch assembly has a black baseand a brown top. The original flood switch was completely brown.

The original flood switch, part number 525941, will continue to be used in all DishDrawer products. Please note, due to its very low current rating the new flood switch can only be used in DW920 & 820products. The original flood switch, part number 525941, must be used in all DishDrawers, 918TD, &818S products.

LOCATING A LEAK IN A DW920/820 DISHWASHER (F1 FAULT)We have concerns that when servicing the above dishwashers for F1 faults, (flood switch has beenactivated) some service persons are simply tightening the top tub roller screws assuming they were causinga leak. It should be noted that it is always possible to tighten these screws a small amount, as the rubberseal they tighten against will relax with time. This is quite normal and doesn’t mean it is going to leak. The screws must unwind some distance to cause a leak.

When servicing a product for the above fault, first establish whether there has been water in the base? Ifnot, check the float has not been jammed up by wiring etc? If this is ok, check the continuity through theflood switch contacts and if there is any doubt, replace the flood switch assembly with the new onementioned above.

If there is water in the base of the product and it is not obvious where it is leaking from, the product shouldbe removed from the cavity, the outside wrapper removed, and a check made for signs of previous leaks.

Test run the machine, and check the following places for leaking:

ROTOR REPLACEMENTWe are concerned about the number of filter plates being replaced when a rotor is replaced. It wouldappear that Service Centres are just stocking part number 525736 which is a kit including a rotor, filterplate, and lock nut. Referring to Technical Bulletin DW009, this kit should only be used when replacing arotor in a product made prior to serial number AID525892.

To prevent this happening, we have now superceded the kit part number 525736 across to the current rotorpart number 525884. Therefore, if it is necessary to fit a rotor to a product made prior to AID525892, itwill also be necessary to order the current filter plate lock nut, part number 526069. It has been decidedthat a new filter plate is not required when doing this. The current lock nut will fit into an earlier filterplate (made prior to AID525892) and lock a new rotor in place without any problems.

While on the topic of rotors, we would also like to advise that we carry out testing on all the rotors that arereturned for fill or wash related problems. They are first tested in a device that measures magnetic forceand then run in a DishDrawer through 50 full cycles. We are finding 99% of them have no fault at all andin the future we will be returning these rotors with the claim form to the Service Centre.

U3 FAULTWe are receiving quite a few claims where a U3 fault has occurred and the technician subsequentlyreplaces the electronic controller. When returned, we are finding that most of these controllers had simplybeen set to low pressure, which, if connected to a water supply with normal pressure, will cause a U3 fault. This is usually done accidentally by the customer in the option adjustment mode. If a call is received for aU3 fault in a DishDrawer, it can quite often be resolved over the phone by referring the customer to theirUse & Care book and having them check the water pressure setting.

DISHDRAWERCHANGES TO MEGA RACKWe have recently made changes to the way we hold the Mega Rack into the DishDrawer basket. Thecentre hook on the Mega Rack has been removed, and two extra locking wires have been added to the sidesof the rack instead. This change has been made to prevent the centre hook on the Mega Rack fouling thespray arm if installed incorrectly. The part number of the Mega Rack has not changed (526346) and it isnow compatible with the earlier style baskets. Please make reference to this change in Technical BulletinDW017, dated February 2000.

WASH PERFORMANCE CHECK SHEETCustomer’s Complaint - Food Particles left on Dishes

Cause of problem (1) Spray arm has stopped rotating. How to resolve theproblem

a) One of the dishes has fallen through the basket and jammed the sprayarm. Remove the obstruction.

b) The Mega Rack has been installed incorrectly and is jamming the sprayarm. Refit Mega rack.

c) Drain filter or filter plate is not installed correctly and is causing thespray arm to jam. Refit filter or filter plate.

Cause of problem (2) The product is being over loaded or incorrectly loaded with dishes.

How to resolve theproblem

Advise customer of correct loading.

Cause of problem (3) Customer is selecting the wrong wash cycle for the soil level on the dishes. How to resolve theproblem

Advise customer about reduced water temperatures (up to 20ºC lower) andwash times when using fast and eco cycles.

Customer’s Complaint - Coffee/Tea Stains left in CupsCause of problem (1) Not enough detergent being used. To remove these stains requires a stronger

concentration of detergent in the water. How to resolve theproblem

Fill the main-wash detergent cup to the top & for best results also fill the pre-wash detergent cup. We recommend running on normal or heavy red cycles.

Cause of problem (2) The product is being over loaded, which is preventing water reaching thecups on the upper cup racks.

How to resolve theproblem

Advise customer of correct loading.

Customer’s Complaint - Dishes have blotchy marks on them that look likewater stain marks, not food

Cause of problem Not enough rinse aid being used. The water is not soft enough during thefinal rinse and therefore hard water droplets containing impurities are dryingon the dishes instead of running off during the dry cycle.

How to resolve theproblem

Confirm that the customer is using rinse aid.The rinse aid may need to be turned up to a higher setting (4 or 5 lights) andfor optimum dry performance run the DishDrawer on normal or heavy redcycles. If a dry problem still exists, a service person needs to check the rinse aiddispenser in diagnostics to make sure it is dispensing correctly.

Customer’s Complaint - Glasses & Cutlery have a Cloudy White film onthem and/or Plates have a White Chalky film on them

Cause of problem Hard water & not enough detergent being used. Minerals from the water arebuilding up on the dishes.

How to resolve theproblem

Once this film forms on the dishes, it cannot be removed by normal washingin the dishwasher. The dishes will need to be cleaned by soaking them in anacidic solution of white vinegar & water. To prevent the build up reoccurring, the customer will have to fill both themain-wash & pre-wash detergent cups to the top, and we recommendrunning on normal red cycles. In problem areas with very hard water, the customer may need to fit a watersoftener to the water supply.

DAMAGE TO ROTORS

There have been quite a few rotors returned with damage to the wash impeller, which is consistent with thefilter plate not being locked in place. These are usually from products that have been in the field for sometime, which would indicate that the customer has removed the filter plate while cleaning the product andhas not refitted it correctly. If this problem is encountered, please explain to the customer the importanceof locking the filter plate in correctly.

A damaged drain impeller on a rotor is caused by foreign matter in the wash water, i.e. broken glass, fruitstones, etc., and this should also be pointed out to the customer to prevent a repeat call.

WATER VALVE RESTRICTORS BLOWING

We have noticed several products with repeat claims for burst internal fill hoses due to the restrictor in thewater inlet valve blowing out. We suspect in these cases that the pressure of the water supply to themachine is over the maximum allowable of 960Kpa (139 psi). When repairing a product with a blownrestrictor, please take note of the pressure of the water supply to the machine, and if you suspect it is on thehigh side, have the pressure checked to make sure it is not above the maximum allowable.

CONDENSATION STRIPS

We now have available a condensation strip, Part Number 526711, which is to be fitted to the followingDishDrawers whenever they are serviced:

All Phase 1 DishDrawers (version 1 and version 2) manufactured in 1997, 1998 & 1999. Serialnumbers will begin with L or A or N.

This condensation strip is designed to prevent moisture forming around the top trim area of the chassis. Please make copies of the fitting instructions available to all service staff and ensure that they have stocksof the condensation strips in their service vehicles. One extra unit of labour should be claimed on each jobwhere a condensation strip is fitted. (See attached page for fitting instructions.)

Chassis Condensation-Stop Strip Installation Instructions

Stand in front of the DishDrawer and orientate the strip so that the barb is pointed upwards and closest toyou, the tape away from you. This is the way the part attaches to the chassis.

Ensure that the area where the part is to be attached is clean and dry – this is very important.

Remove the backing from the double-sided tape, open the drawer and position the part under the chassistrim so that it is centered.

Clip the barb between the chassis trim and the chassis (as per diagram below) and press tape firmly alongthe length of the strip to ensure good adhesion. The ends of the strip may not clip in easily – applypressure towards you, as well as upwards to help them clip in.

It is very important that the strips are tightly clipped in, all the way along the part. If not, apply pressureupwards and outwards to help them clip all the way home.

Make sure pressure is applied all the way along the extrusion as the tape is pressure sensitive. It isimportant that this adhesion is reliable to ensure the moisture cannot get past the seal.

The pressure reached after running the air pump for 60 seconds should be between 20 – 40Kpa. After thepump is switched off it should not drop more than 2Kpa in a 30 second period.

NEW DISPENSER COILS (NZ, AUS, USA, UK)Due to a supply problem, we have been temporarily forced to change the 24V coils used on the phase 1, 2& 3 DishDrawer detergent dispensers. The coils we are now using have spade terminals (6.3 quickconnect) for the wiring connections where the old coils had a RAST 2.5 edge connector fitting. We aretrying to source some more of the original coils for spare parts but in the interim we ask that you do one ofthe following when fitting a new dispenser with spade terminals:

• If the coils on the old dispenser are electrically ok swap them onto the new dispenser.• If the coils on the old dispenser are faulty you will need to cut the RAST 2.5 plug off the wiring

harness and reterminate it with 6.3 quick connect spade terminals in order to connect to the new coils.

This change of coil has also necessitated a change to the current phase 3 DishDrawer dispenser harness. Please add the new harness part number into the phase 3 DishDrawer parts manual.

F1 FAULT PHASE 3 DISHDRAWER (NZ, AUS, USA, UK)Listed below are some areas to look at closely if you are having trouble locating the cause of an F1 fault ina phase 3 DishDrawer: This list should be used in conjunction with the information already supplied in theservice manual.

Product Faults:• Is there a bad or intermittent connection where the lid motors plug onto the chassis circuit board?

Extreme care should be taken when plugging in & unplugging the lid motors to prevent damage to theplugs and circuit board.

• Is the lid fitted the wrong way around? It has the words front moulded into the top of it.• Are the stainless steel stiffening braces crimped to the front and rear of the lid dislodged or missing?• Is one of the yokes damaged or not clipped in correctly to the front or rear of the chassis effecting the

alignment when the lid seals on the tub?• Are all the lid actuators clipped onto their relevant slide rail and yoke correctly?

Customer Faults:• Was the spray arm in place? If the spray arm in a phase 3 DishDrawer manufactured prior to

CRM729231 is not in place, there is a chance that it will over fill and flood out the rear vent holebefore it faults U1. This is more likely to happen if it is connected to a hot water fill as there is morepressure generated within the tub when filling with hot water. Products manufactured after the aboveserial number have a software change to ensure they will fault U1 before flooding.

• Did the customer spill rinse agent when filling the dispenser? This would cause excessive foamingwhich would subsequently spill out the drying vents.

• Did the customer squeeze a large item into the DishDrawer that has prevented the lid from coming allthe way down and sealing correctly?

TUB LATCHES CLICKING CLOSED PHASE 3 DISHDRAWER (NZ, AUS, USA, UK)We have identified a potential fault with a small batch of tub latches that mount on the rear of the sliderails. There is the potential for a faulty latch to flick closed when the tub is pulled open. The resultingproblem is that the tub won’t close completely and will protrude out slightly on one side. If this fault isencountered and it is not something an installer or service person has accidentally done, then it isrecommended that the offending tub latch be replaced to prevent any future problems.

KICK STRIP DEFECT PHASE 3 DISHDRAWER (NZ, AUS, USA, UK)We have found a batch of phase 3 kick strips with an injection-moulding defect around the mountingdetail. The implications are that if a kitchen toe kick is any deeper than 50mm it may not be possible toslide the kick strip far enough back on the tub to line up with the adjacent joinery. If this problem isencountered, simply cut away the thin piece of plastic that is interfering. Refer pictures below.

DD601v2, DS601v2 (NZ, AUS, SGP) & DD602, DS602 (USA) IntegratedThere seems to be some confusion as to the necessity of a chamfer on the bottom of the top drawer’sintegrated panel. To enhance airflow, there is a requirement for a chamfered edge, although if thecabinetmaker can provide an 8mm gap between the top integrated panel and bottom integrated panel (orthe joinery below in the case of a single DishDrawer), this chamfer is not necessary. However, the top ofthe bottom drawer’s integrated panel must be no higher than the bottom of the top drawer’s cabinet trim, asshown. VERSION 2 RETURNED DISHDRAWERS WITH WASH COMPLAINT (NZ, AUS, SGP, USA)It has been found that Version 2 DishDrawers returned to the Division in the past month due to washperformance problems, have been fitted with the old glass filled polypropylene rotor assemblies. Rotors ofthis material can cause the sprayarm to stick, which does not help wash performance.

All rotor assemblies will have a material recycling mark on the underside of the top flange assembly andthese are described below:• From the start of DishDrawer production to December 1998 we used Acetal which has the mark

> POM <.• This was then changed to Glass Filled Polypropylene (for its acid resistant properties) which has the

mark > PP-GC30 <. The serial number of the first product fitted with these is ALD557477.• In April 2000 it was changed to Carilon (for its acid resistance and bearing properties) which has the

mark > PK <. The serial number of the first product fitted with these is DHD595654.

When servicing a version 2 DishDrawer for wash performance problems, look at the rotor assembly, and ifit has the recycling mark of > PP-GC30 <, replace it with the current spare part which should be marked> PK <.

DISHDRAWERF1 FAULT CHECKLIST FOR PHASE 3 DISHDRAWERS – NZ, AUS,SGP, USAFirst determine whether it’s a Full Flood F1, Small Puddle F1 or a Dry F1.A Full Flood F1 is when there is sufficient water (2-3mm throughout the base) in the base to trigger theflood switch.A Small Puddle F1 is when a small amount of water has triggered the flood switch.A Dry F1 is when the base is free of water.

FULL FLOOD F1’sCheck for leaks or evidence of leaks in the following places:-

• Inlet hose to fill valve connection• Fill Valve body• Holes in fill hose or drain hose• Damage to heater plate - chipped enamel• Motor housing and heater plate seals – pinched, contaminated or poor join• O-rings – motor housing, drain inlet• Dispenser – seal, diverter, weld• Lid area

NOTE:- If there is evidence of the leak coming from the lid area (eg water down the outsides of the tub orif too dry, look for rust spots on the cut edge of the slide bracket) look for the following:-

• Lid Actuator jammed (check using diagnostics)• Lid gearbox not working

Wire off actuatorWire off actuator terminal at RFI boardDry solder joint on actuator terminal on RFI boardPins pushed through on actuator terminal on RFI boardGearbox case unclippedGearbox fallen off slide

• Lid assembled correctlyLid on yoke, lid actuator in yoke, actuator in gearbox nut, lid gearbox assembly on slide

Customer related wet F1’s that have had improvements:

• A Spray arm being off in a hot fill situation did cause a F1 due to the overfilling water coming out therear vent before a U1 fault stopped the water supply.

NOTE: A change made to the controller now ensures that a U1 fault will come up first. All products fromCRM729231 have this improvement.

• A rinse aid spill can cause excessive foaming which will subsequently spill out the drying vents andtrip the flood switch. Please note that most of the foam may well have dried up by the time theserviceman arrives to check the machine.

NOTE: A change made to the controller will significantly reduce this. All products from CKM756697 havethis improvement.

SMALL PUDDLE F1’s

Check the following:

• Condensation on the Flood Switch or evidence of such.• That the product is level – if the product has a lean to the left rear, a small amount of water may

trigger the flood switch.

DRY F1’s

Check the following:

• F1 in top tub only and a dead bottom tub indicates a blown power supply resistor in the bottom heaterplate.

• Condensation on the flood switch or evidence of such.• Corrosion on the RFI board.• Faulty connection on the chassis harness from controller to RFI board.

HEATER PLATE FAILURES ON PHASE 3 DISHDRAWERS – NZ,AUS, SGP, USA

Melted Fuse Link:

Cause:• Excess heat generated by mainly the heater element or the power supply resistor.

Fault:• More than likely that this was due to a faulty controller.• IMPORTANT – check all the coils before starting machine because if the power supply resistor has

caused the melted fuse link, excess current may well have been going through one of the coils, (inletvalve, detergent dispenser diverter valve or rinse aid pump valve) shorting it, and if this coil is notreplaced the fault may re-occur. NOTE: All coils should measure approximately 70ohms

Damaged Power Supply Resistor:

• This will cause the controller to lose power.• If it is the bottom tub whose power supply resistor fails and because the bottom tub supplies the power

to the RFI board and hence flood circuit, the top tub will F1.

Damaged Heater Resistor (Heater Element):

• Replacing the heater plate should be all that is required.

F4:

• The F4 time for the Ph3 DishDrawer is 120min from the time the element is switched on for it’s heatingcycle.

• The Ph3 DishDrawer does not show HE when heating, they merely stop counting down time.• NOTE: If the heater resistor (element) fails, the power supply resistor will heat the water but at a

greatly reduced rate, so that after 2 hours the water may seem warm but it will not get to the requiredtemperature. This could cause a bit of confusion in that the service person may think the element isstill working.

DISHDRAWERInstallation of DD603 – NZ, AUS, SGP, USA, UK

Please notify all Installation crews and technicians immediatelyWe have found that many of the DD603 Dishdrawers have been improperly installed causing damage tothe product and the customer’s home. We have found that many installers, plumbers and contractors areremoving the top drawer and using the holes in the left and right flange to attach the unit to the cabinetry(Example #-2 page-2). This is incorrect.

The flanges are used as the tracks to carry the yokes that raise and lower the lid seal assembly. Whenscrews are put in these holes in either the top or bottom drawer, the seal will not lower and water willspray over the top causing a severe leak. It is not necessary to remove the top drawer forinstallation. To access the mounting tabs, remove the bottom drawer, pull back the cut- outslocated in the side wall insulation, and secure with screws provided (Example#1 page-1). Ifnecessary, you may also use the tabs located at the top of the Dishdrawer. They fold forward andattach to the underside of the counter top. It is important to replace the insulation back over themounting tabs.

LATEST PHASE 3 DISHDRAWER DISPENSER – NZ, AUS, SGP,USA, UKTechnical Bulletin DW025 issued June 2001 advised on the forced change to new dispenser coils, whichhave 6.3mm quick connect spade terminals for the wiring connections. The old coils had a RAST 2.5-edge connector fitting. This was due to a supply problem and we have now modified the dispenser to beable to accommodate a different manufacturer’s coil, which has a RAST 2.5-edge connector fitting.

The new Dispenser, part number 526859 differs from the old dispenser, part number 526536, in that it hasshorter screw bosses and therefore a different bracket is required to fit the dispenser to the tub. A newspare part kit has been introduced (part number 526860 Dispenser Kit) which includes the new dispenserand two of the new brackets. This should ensure that whenever a new dispenser is ordered, for a phase1, 2 or 3 product, it will have the appropriate brackets to fit the dispenser to the product. In some cases(ie products already fitted with the new 526859 dispenser) the brackets will not be needed. If fitting theolder type spare part dispensers (526536) to a product currently fitted with a new type dispenser(526859), it will be necessary to fit the older type dispenser mounting brackets (525632).

NOTE: The new Dispenser, 526859, is fitted to all products from serial number CKM754991.

The other issue when replacing a dispenser is the coil electrical connection.1. If the coils on the dispenser being replaced are not faulty, swap them on to the new dispenser.2. If the coils on the dispenser you are replacing are faulty and their electrical connections are not the

same as the replacement dispenser, the following options are available:

a) Fitting a spare part dispenser with RAST 2.5-edge connector coils onto a product that has6.3mm quick connect spade terminals on the wiring harness will mean fitting a 526263Harness Dispenser PH3.

b) Fitting a Spare Part Dispenser with 6.3mm quick connect spade terminal coils onto a productthat has RAST 2.5-edge connector fittings on the wiring harness will mean either:

i) Re-terminate the wiring harness with 6.3mm quick connect spade terminals, orii) Fit a 526788 Harness Dispenser PH3 QC6.3, oriii) Fit spare part RAST 2.5 connection coils, 526451 Coil Assy 24V DC RAST 2.5 750GW

to the spare part Dispenser.

PHASE 3 DISHDRAWER NEW HANDLE AND MODIFIED TUB – NZ,AUS, SGP, USA, UKA change has been made to the PH3 DishDrawer handle and tub flange. The hold down detail on the left-hand side of the handle has moved further towards the end of the handle, while the tub flange detail thehandle fits to has been modified in the front left corner to accommodate this change.

526743 White Handle replaces 526205 White Handle526744 Black Handle replaces 526206 Black Handle526745 Stainless Handle replaces 526207 Stainless Handle

The new handles and modified tubs are on all products after serial number CUM763188.

The old style handle does fit onto the new style tubsalthough the rigidity of the left side once in place is notthe best. Once the door is fitted there is no obviousdefect except that the left-hand side of the handle canbe lifted slightly. In the cases where this deemed to beunacceptable, the new style handle should be fitted.

In summary:

When replacing a handle on a product made beforeserial number CUM763188, use the old handle. Eg.526205, 526206 or 526207, depending on the finish ofthe product. When replacing a handle on a product made after serialnumber CUM763188, use the new handle. Eg 526743, 526744 or 526745, depending on the finish of theproduct.

When replacing a tub on a product made before serial number CUM763188, the existing handle can beused, but take note of the concerns expressed earlier if the replacement tub has the modified tub flange. Ifthe replacement tub does not have the modified tub flange the existing handle may still be used.

DW920/820 DISHWASHERSMYSTERY LEAKS - LOCATING A LEAK (F1 FAULT) – REMINDER(NZ, AUS, SGP)(This information appeared in Technical Bulletin DW022, September 2000)

We have concerns that when servicing the 920/820 dishwashers for F1 faults, (flood switch has beenactivated) some service people are simply tightening the top tub roller screws assuming they werecausing a leak. It should be noted that it is always possible to tighten these screws a small amount, asthe rubber seal they tighten against will relax with time. This is quite normal and doesn’t mean it is goingto leak. The screws must unwind some distance to cause a leak.

When servicing a product for an F1 fault, first establish whether there has been water in the base? If not, check the float has not been jammed up by wiring etc? If this is ok, check the continuity through the floodswitch contacts and if there is any doubt, replace the flood switch assembly with a new one. If there iswater in the base of the product and it is not obvious where it is leaking from, the product should beremoved from the cavity, the outside wrapper removed, and a check made for signs of previous leaks.

Test run the machine, and check the following places for leaking:

Leaking from ActionAround the tapping plates, from the tub roller. Tighten tub roller screws. If damaged or stripped

replace with fine threaded screw and tapping plate.Around the fill vent. Make sure the fill vent seal is in place and the fill

vent nut is tight.Front flood holes. Check spray arms for splits and make sure they are

fitted correctly, and are not upside downCheck ends of door gasket to make sure they arenot damaged and are fitted correctly.Pump water out of the machine into a bucket andmeasure the amount of water to make sure the filllevel is correct, around 5 litres.

Around the door seal area.(may leak around the top of the door, run downbehind the door seal & appear to be leak outaround the flood hole area)

Check the door gasket is fitted correctly and thegasket retainer is clamping it tightly to the productall the way around.Check the gasket isn’t damaged.Check the door is sealing tightly against the gasket.

From the sump, wash & drain pumps or associatedplumbing.

Repair or replace components causing leak.

Connections onto the inlet valve. Tighten connections.Damage to the drain hose. Repair/replace drain hose.Seam weld around the tub. If possible repair with silicon sealant otherwise

DISHDRAWERSDD602 Micro-switch Failure – NZ, AUS, SGP, UK, USA

We are seeing a large number of microswitch failures in the field. The main reason switches are failing isbecause they were damaged during the product’s assembly. The slide pin has got under the microswitchlever spring, probably as the slide was being fitted to the product. When the slide was then extended to fitthe tub, the lever spring is bent back and damaged. Everything still works the same as the slide pin stillactivates the microswitch when the drawer is closed. However the life of the spring is reduced fromapproximately 50,000 operations to approximately 1000 (depending on the extent of the damage.)

When replacing a broken microswitch, it is important to check that the slide pin cannot get under themicroswitch lever spring and damage the new part.

Also, for a double DishDrawer, it is essential to check the microswitch in the other drawer to ensure that ithasn’t also been damaged. The picture on the left shows a good microswitch, the one on the right showsa damaged microswitch.

To help us determine the failure mode in the field, please return all microswitches that are replaced inNew Zealand before the 30th June ‘02, including the lever spring pieces. Please include product details, and if it is a repeat failure, advise whether it is the top or bottom tub.

Please send the failed components along with the requested details direct to: Peter Swale, Fisher &Paykel Appliances Ltd, Dukes Road, Mosgiel, New Zealand. The warranty claim forms can be sentthrough to the Warranty Claims Department in Auckland and processed in the normal way.

DD603 Tub Removal TipWhen a tub is lifted off the slides and turned upside down for servicing, e.g to replace a heater plate, it isbest to rotate it in an anti-clockwise direction. This is the opposite way to which it was assembled and willhelp prevent the hoses from getting twisted inside the link support. Once upside down, the hoses andwiring can be removed and placed over the right hand slide. These can then be reassembled to the tubwithout the need to twist them awkwardly.

It is also a good idea to push the hoses and the link support down while re-fitting the wiring cover. Thisensures that the link support does not interfere with the tub when the drawer is closing. If the hoses havebecome twisted in the link support, or if the link support is too close to the tub, this can cause drawerclosing problems. Either the drawer will not close fully or will close slowly over the last 35 mm. (1 ½inches)

DISHWASHERSMoulded Tub Roller Assembly – Improved Design - NZ, AUS, SGPWhen servicing a Dishwasher with a F1 fault code, first determine the cause of the leak. If you suspectthe leak has come from the tub roller assembly we advise that you remove the cabinet wrapper andinspect the outside of the tub for any visible water stains or marks.

If it is clear the leak has come from the tub roller assembly check the tightness of the roller screws.

Please order and fit the new spare part kit, part number 521428, if there is any sign of stripping ordamage to the tub roller assembly or if there has been a repeat call for leaking tub rollers on the productbeing serviced.

To fit the new design of tub roller, first remove the cabinet wrapper. This must be done because thescrews on the new assembly tap directly into the tub rollers from the outside of the tub. Tighten thescrews until they are firm. The large head on the new screws gives adequate support to clamp the rollersto the tub. After fitting the new design of tub roller you will notice that the tapping plate is no longerrequired.

Note: To compensate for the removal of the cabinet wrapper in order to fit the new tub rollers, thestandard time to replace or refit the tub rollers has been updated to 5 labour units.

DishDrawerPhase 3 Fill Hose replacement – NZ, AUS, SGP-ROW, USA, UKFrom the 25/06/02, URM serial numbers, the fill hoses will not have any clip markings printed on them. When replacing a fill hose, it is important to transfer the clip positions from the old hose to the new one. This can be done by laying the old and new hoses out side by side, and transferring the clip positionsusing a marker pen. Doing this will ensure that the hose is positioned in the link support correctly, withthe required amount of hose available at each end for connection to the dispenser and inlet valve.

F1 fault Checklist for Phase 3 – NZ, AUS, SGP-ROW, USA, UKMost causes were covered in the November Tech Bulletin DW028. Our experience now highlights someother possible causes;

• Dispenser leak caused by loose screws.• Dispenser rinse aid bung leak due to a leaky light pipe or a defective o-ring. (for this to cause an F1,

the rinse aid tank would need to be full of water.)• Wirsbo inlet hose washer pinched at the inlet valve, a moulding defect at valve end of the inlet hose,

or a leaking connection at the tap end.• Heater plate locking nut not clipped in properly and causing leaking of water.• Water dripping off the lid if the (bottom) drawer is opened during the cycle.• Oversudsing due to liquid detergent being squirted into the tub or the rinse aid tank.• Tub fan housing weld defective.• Yoke pegs broken allowing the lid to float backwards.• Yoke pegs not fitted into the trim slot.• Fill hose split due to inlet valve flow restrictor blowing.• Bottom controller faulty, top tub only - F1

Phase 3 Condensation problems – NZ, AUS, SGP-ROW, USA, UKCondensation is sometimes visible along the top of the handle or under the bench-top. It usually occursat the end of the cycle when the lid comes up. There are a number of things that can cause or contributeto condensation problems:

• Yoke pegs broken – allowing lid to “float” between the front and rear and not sealing on the tub flange• Tub / Handle excessively bowed along the front edge.• Drawer not closing fully because;

• The tub clip (which sets the latch) is broken.• Link support clip too close to the tub not allowing the hoses to fold up out of the way.• Latch assembly spring is formed incorrectly causing the latch to reset itself.

• The DishDrawer going into pause mode part way through the cycle (causing the lid to come up.) Thismay be due to;

• A faulty controller, or• faulty LCD buttons or moisture on the back of the LCD board

• Drying fan not running• Granite bench tops – cold surface• Cold room temperatures and / or high humidity.• Integrated models - lack of an 8mm gap between door panels.• Insufficient gap between the top of the product and the bench-top

Damage can occur to integrated panels where they have not been adequately sealed to withstandmoisture, and also to the underside of the bench if the bare wood surrounding the DishDrawer has notbeen sealed, as recommended in the installation instructions.

One way to reduce condensation is to install the Closed Drawer Option in Option Adjustment Mode, sothat the lid stays down at the end of the cycle.

If the customer is not happy to push the power button each time they want to open the drawer, yourTechnical Representative or Field Operations Representative can program the product so that the lidstays down only at the end of the cycle, for 2 or 4 hours, before coming up. During this time the drawercan be opened by pushing the power button. At all other times when not in use the lid will stay up.

Phase 3 - Open Circuit Thermal Fuse On Heater Plate – NZ, AUS,SGP-ROW, USA, UKA serviceman will sometimes be called to a situation where either:

a) The top drawer is “dead”, orb) The bottom drawer is “dead” and the top drawer is displaying an F1 fault. The reason the top drawer

is displaying an F1 fault in this case is because the flood switch sensor on the mains filter boardobtains its power supply from the bottom drawer controller in a double drawer model. If that controlleris not supplying power to the sensor, the top drawer would not be able to sense if there was an F1fault. As a precaution and to provide a fail-safe mode, it therefore displays an F1 fault and the drawercannot be operated.

One reason that the drawer is “dead” can be that the thermal fuse on the heater plate is open circuit. Partof the controller’s power supply is through the power supply resistor on the heater plate. The controllerdrops the supply voltage to that required by the various components. If the thermal fuse melts, thecontroller’s power supply resistor will go open circuit and the controller can not function.

The thermal fuse has probably gone open circuit because the power supply resistor has overheated. Tounderstand why it has done so, we need to understand a little of what happens within the controller.

There are a series of components within the controller that control the current supplied to the wash/drainmotor, the water inlet valve coil, the detergent diverter coil, the rinse aid pump coil, the lid actuator motorsand the drying fan.

If a controller component fails, it can feed too much current to a motor or coil. This causes the motor orcoil to fail and, in the process, draw excess current through the controller. This causes the power supplyresistor to overheat and melt the thermal fuse on the heater plate. If it is a component that controls a lidactuator motor which fails, the excess current fed to that motor can also damage the resistors on themains filter board to which the lid actuator motors are connected.

There is also a component within the controller called an IGBT. This can fail and draw excess current, causing the power supply resistor to overheat and melt the thermal fuse. In this case, the other motorsand coils are not usually damaged, but it pays to check.

If a drawer is “dead”, the following checks should be made:

a) Check for supply voltage on the 19 way plug at the controller, (between the sixth wire from the righthand side and the 7th wire from the right hand side). If it is present, this indicates that power is gettingto the heater plate and the controller. If not, consult the wiring diagram and locate the fault furtherback in the circuit.

b) Remove the power plug from the wall, and check on the 19 way controller plug for a circuit through thepower supply resistor and the thermal fuse on the heater plate, (between the 3rd wire from the righthand side and the 6th wire from the right hand side). The resistance should be 125 ohms plus orminus 5 ohms for a NZ/AUS/UK heater plate. If there is no circuit, the thermal fuse is probably opencircuit and the heater plate will have to be replaced.

c) Check the resistance of the following components:i. Water Inlet Valve Coil (70 ohms plus or minus 5 ohms).ii. Detergent Diverter Coil (70 ohms plus or minus 5 ohms).iii. Rinse Aid Pump Coil (70 ohms plus or minus 5 ohms).iv. Drying Fan (approx. 3.47 kOhms).

d) Check the 4 resistors for the lid actuators on the mains filter board for signs of overheating (browning). If they have overheated, the board will need to be replaced as will the lid actuator motors for thatdrawer. It is very difficult to get a reliable resistance reading for lid actuators.

If any of these components are faulty, they must be replaced. Failure to do so will cause the controller todraw too much current again. The power supply resistor will overheat on the new heater plate and meltthe thermal fuse again. The new controller may also be damaged.

The controller must also be replaced, as it will have been the failure of a component in the controller thatcaused the problem in the first place.

In Summary:

1. Check for supply voltage at the controller.2. Check for a circuit through the power supply resistor on the heater plate. If open circuit, replace the

heater plate.3. Check the resistance of all components listed above and replace any that are faulty.

Replace the controller.

DISHDRAWERSDD603 Product and Parts Manual changes – NZ, AUS, ROW-SGP,USA, UKA number of changes have been made to the DD603 parts manual to cater for Water Softener, Iridiumand what is generally referred to as Ph 3.5 product introductions. The product model and code numbersdo not change. Ph3.5 production started on 4/9/02 from serial number UYM 735384.

• Integrated badge parts are only available as a complete assembly (as per the drawing in the PartsManual) except for the cover/clip, the light pipes, and the badge kits (which include the housing andthe buttons).

• A new rectangular satin chrome integrated badge will be used in production from 30 October, replacing the existing chrome oval badge.

• The new handle supercedes the old and can be fitted to old tubs by removing the clip at the left handend or bending it out of the way as the handle is slid on to the tub. (Technical Bulletin DW029 will berevised & refreshed on the website as it is inaccurate on this point). A screw may be fitted throughthe handle (but not into the tub) to prevent any upwards movement.

• The new harnesses have coded plugs. These will fit all Ph 3.5 products and many Ph 3 also.In the case where the new harness won’t push on to a Ph 3 component (because the PCB does nothave a slot in it), remove the plug coding with a sharp knife.

• The LCD changes for Ph 3.5.

It displays minutes only instead of hours and minutes. A new LCD board is introduced for Ph 3.5. Alsothe “delay” start symbol changes to a timer symbol, and the U1 fault code is replaced by a tap with aline through it. (Refer to the new User Guide or the “Corrections to User Guide” additional sheetincluded with Ph 3 User Guides in Ph 3.5 Products).

• Door upper and lower assembly part numbers have changed and a number of new doors areintroduced. SM is iridium stainless steel. Door assemblies now include door insulation.

• Kick Strip silver is added for use with Iridium Doors.

• A new inlet valve is introduced for water softener models which has a lower flow rate of 2.5 litres/min.

• The new, clear Fill Hose supercedes the old part except in the USA

• The new Drain Filter and Filter Plate assemblies are made from grade 304 stainless steel, replacinggrade 430.

• Water Softener parts are added, but not used / available in NZ, Australia and Japan.

• The new Controller supercedes the old. However there are different part numbers for Ph 3 and Ph 3.5replacements. This is because the wash program cycle times are different.

The Ph 3.5 controller can be used in products with or without the water softener. For USA spares, thewater softener will be set to 0 and will need to be set up in option adjustment mode for products withthe water softener. For GB/EU spares, the default setting will be 3, because all products for thismarket will have water softener fitted

• User Guides are updated and their part numbers change. NZ, Australia and Japan versions do notcontain water softener information.

• Kit Trim is now charcoal colour (and contains top and bottom trims and prisms)

• Hose drain upper and lower have been replaced with Kit Drain Hose 527137, which includes x1 HoseDrain Upper and x1 O Ring Cuff Socket. Once installed the drain hose can be cut to length beforefitting to the drain.

• A number of other parts have superceded to new part numbers but the above information covers themain issues.

DD603 Service Manual - AllThe service manual has been updated to include water softener information for the UK and the USA.

DD603 User Guide - AllThe user guide has been updated. The main changes are:

- The LCD displays minutes only- Delay start is replaced in the LCD with a symbol- The integrated badge changes to a rectangular shape- The method of changing some of the user options for Integrated products changes- The U1 fault code is replaced with a symbol on the LCD

• All GB and USA prefinished products will contain the new guide.• USA and NZ/AUS integrated products will use a Ph 3 guide, with a corrections sheet inserted, until the

new rectangular badge is introduced (30 October).• NZ/AUS prefinished products will continue to use Ph 3 guides, with a “corrections” sheet inserted, until

stocks are used up.

DISH DRAWERDD603 DRAINING PROBLEMS – NZ, AU, ROW, USA, UKOur warranty data and feedback from the field suggests that we get a few issues to do with drain water left in the tub or the drain hose gettingblocked. When servicing a product with a customer complaint relating to these issues refer to the checklist outlined below. Check the installation to ensure the product is installed as per our installation instructions.

The drain hose must have a high loop at least 750mm from the floor. The drain hose should not sag in the section between the high loop and the connection to the waste pipe (the hose may need

shortening to prevent sagging). Ensure the drain hose is not kinked or pinched.

Check the rotor is rotating freely. If the rotor is seized, look for foreign objects stuck in the drain impellor area.

If the rotor is not seized but the product still does not drain, check the detail inside the sump area and the rotor’s drain impellor. These parts canbecome worn from foreign objects entering the drain area. Replace the rotor or stator assembly if required.

If there is evidence of foreign objects entering the drain area, upgrade the drain filter to the new spare part # 527412. Check the flap valve is not blocked and is fitted correctly. Check that the stator windings are not excessively loose on the stator housing and that the hall sensor is positioned correctly. If the stator

windings are excessively loose on the stator housing, replace the stator assembly. Check that the customer cleans their drain filters on a regular basis.

DD603 PRODUCT PAUSING MID CYCLE – NZ, AU, ROW, USA, UKWe have received inquiries from the field to do with products going into pause mode during the wash cycle. If a customer complaint is receivedrelating to this issue refer to the checklist outlined below. Check the installation to ensure the product is installed as per our installation instructions.

If the product is not levelled correctly the cabinet can flex slightly. During heat up and cool down periods the cabinet could flex enoughto misalign the light transfer tubes to the prism.

Check that the tub is closing correctly. Check the latch has not reset and is positioned correctly on the slide. Check that the link support is not broken and the hoses in the link assembly are positioned correctly. The above faults can hold the tub open just enough to misalign the light transfer tubes to the prism.

Check that the light transfer tubes and electronic controller are fitted correctly. Check that the light transfer tubes are clean and there is no food residue on the outer side of the tub that could effect the path of light from

the light transfer tubes to the prism. Check that the prism is fitted correctly in the trim. It should be positioned with a slight upward angle. It may be necessary to insert a little

packer under the prism to angle it correctly as shown below. If these checks do not prove to be successful in resolving the issue, try replacing the electronic controller. There could be a problem with

the LED’s or light circuit.

DISHDRAWERLink Support Phase 3 Dishdrawer – NZ, AU, ROW, USA, UKWe are getting reports of the link support breaking in the centre and causing an F1 fault when it gets inbetween the rear flange of the tub and the lid.

If this problem is encountered, please inspect the lid seal for damage along its rear edge. This may be inthe form of a cut, or a piece missing, or the seal being distorted with a permanent kink in it. If left, thiscould cause subsequent F1 faults to occur.

Before removing the old link support, mark the position of the clips on the hoses and harness. This willhelp ensure the new support is positioned correctly.

If this is not done, a wrongly positioned link support could:

a) prevent the drawer from closing fully, and cause the product to go into “pause” mode part way throughthe cycle.

b) cause the link support to interfere with and reset the latch as the drawer is closing.

DISHWASHERDW920 Panel Rear – 521595 – NZ, AU, ROWOn approximately 18th August 2003, or when stocks run out, we will no longer include this panel on newproducts, or supply it as a spare part.

Testing has shown that there are no added benefits from including this panel on the DW920 and it hasnever been fitted to the DW820 dishwasher.

DISHDRAWERPoor wash performance - NZ, AU, ROW, UK, USAIn some MPM and MAM serial number products, the spray arm stops rotating because it catches on the bottom of the crockeryinsert. The problem can be corrected by replacing the main basket – 526062 BASKET SILVER.

F1 – top tub only - NZ, AU, ROW, UK, USAIf a double product (DD603) displays F1 on the top drawer only, there is no water in the base, and the bottom drawer isworking OK it is most likely that the bottom drawer controller has failed. This is because it is the bottom drawer controller thatprovides power to the flood detection circuit. Please refer to previous technical bulletins DW031, DW028, and DW025 forfurther information on F1 causes.

Phase 3.5 products with phase 3 cycle times – NZ, AU onlyNZ / AU Products between UYM741861 and UYM742647 were inadvertently programmed with ph3 cycle times. The timedifferences are only minor and should have no noticeable effect on performance. If replacing a controller in these products, use526842NAP or 527415NAP CONTROLLER 525 PH3 NZ/AU, to keep the cycle times the same.

Electronic Controller – new part number - NZ, AU, ROW, UK, USA526842 has been superceded by 527415 in production from MKM 704522 onwards. Spare parts suffix codes and useage willremain the same, so for example 526842NAP will become 527415NAP. The new controller now allows dry enhancement modeto be turned off and on in option adjustment mode for integrated products. This feature has been available as a user option forprefinished products, and programmable by a Tech Rep or FOR for integrated, since MEM 741743. This is a running changeand spare part stocks of 526842 controllers can be used up before ordering the new part.

Dry enhancement mode – NZ onlyFrom MKM 704522 onwards, New Zealand only integrated products will have dry enhancement mode turned on in the factory.This means the lid will stay down and the fan will run on for 4 hours at the end of a wash cycle. An orange label stating this willbe attached to the user guide and cutlery basket.All other markets will be factory set to off.To access and change in option adjustment mode;

Press powerPress and hold ECO and LOCK for 5 sec until it beepsPress START/PAUSE until LH appearsPress LOCK to turn dry enhancement on / off(brush symbol is displayed for on)

Drain filter trim - NZ, AU, ROW, UK, USAThe size of the drain filter trim hole in the filter plate has increased, and a larger trim introduced into production.527105 supercedes to 527547 KIT DRAIN FILTER TRIM (SP), which will include both the old and new size trims. The difference will be obvious when fitting the replacement to a filter plate – the new trim will be too big to fit older plates, and theold trim will be a loose fit in the new plates.

DD603 lid assembly 526732 – NZ onlySpare parts sales of this item seem unusually high. In New Zealand, please return any lids which have been replaced, with acopy of the warranty claim form where applicable, to F&P Appliances Ltd until further notice. Any info that you can pass on toyour Tech Rep may also help us identify and fix this problem.

DD603 Yoke Peg - NZ, AU, ROW, UK, USASome service technicians may be unaware of the function ofthe lid yoke, it’s peg and the effect it has if they are broken ornot fitted correctly.

The pictures below show the yoke peg, and the way it fits intothe front cabinet trim, which is not visible when servicing afinished product.

CORRECT POSITION INCORRECTLY FITTEDIf the yoke is incorrectly fitted, the lid will not move up and down freely, hence causing a water leak. When fault finding for leaks or condensation check that the yoke peg is not broken. This can be done by holding on to the rubberlid seal on either side at the front and gently moving the lid horizontally from front to back in the Dishdrawer. If the peg is notbroken you should only get 1 –2mm of movement. If there is greater movement in the lid, then remove the yoke and check thatthe peg is not broken. If not, the trim track itself may be damaged and the trim will need replacing

To position it correctly, fit the yoke in to the chassis at the backfirst, then slide the yoke up diagonally at the front so that thepeg locates inside the trim track. Once in place clip the yokeonto the actuator. Reassemble lid, tub etc back into theDishdrawer. When tub is in place check as per instructionsabove for movement and position. Once the machine isassembled to safe working order, turn power on and test forfunctionality in diagnostics.

DishDrawer & DishwasherDD / DS 603 Fault Codes Not Displayed – NZ, AU, ROW, USA, GB-EUMODELS: DD / DS 603The last two releases of DishDrawer phase 3.5 software have an error where the fault history (the last 2 faults) is not displayed indiagnostics "display / download" mode. Instead, the LCD will display 199 or 159 when a fault has occurred.

"No fault" is still displayed correctly as 00. All products from MEM741743, when dry enhancement mode was introduced, havethis problem. This error only affects the LCD display.

If a fault occurs during normal operation, it will still be displayed on the LCD.

The fault history code(s) can still be determined using the red LED’s on the secondary display (wash program indicator), thesame method used for integrated product.

The problem will be corrected in the next version of software, due in production approximately August 2004.

DD/DS 603 LCD Condensation - NZ, AU, ROW, USA, GB-EUMODELS: DD/DS603

Handle changeDue to condensation damaging LCD boards, a change was made to the handle moulding to prevent excess moisture entering theLCD housing. The photos below show how the handle moulding has been extended to cover the housing. The new handle isfitted to products manufactured from CUM763188, (November 2001).

Old style handle moulding with LCD New style handle mouldingHousing exposed. Encasing the LCD housing.

LCD changeAlso, we have introduced a new LCD board which substitutes 2 capacitors with 2 heater resistors to help prevent condensationforming and damaging the display backlight.

These changes were introduced from product serial number MLM722500, (December 2003)

Part numbers527643P LCD BOARD HEAT PHASE 3 SVC, for “hours / minutes” displays, replacing 526203P.527644P LCD BOARD HEAT PHASE 3.5 SVC, for “minutes only” displays, replacing 526977P.

When attending a product where condensation is affecting the display, check to see if the improved handle and LCD board havebeen fitted.

If possible increase the product to countertop clearance to around 12.5 mm, and move the product forward in the cavity so thatthe countertop does not overhang as much.

For example, in New Zealand and AustraliaPhase 3 normal cycle = 102 min.Phase 3.5 normal cycle = 111 min.

KEY *2 FURTHER EXPLANATIONIf the phase 3 spare part controller is used in a phase 3.5 product (with a phase 3.5 LCD which displays min. only), it will work, but the customer may notice that the cycle times are now different to the other Drawer (in a double) and different to what theywere before. The same will apply if you use the phase 3.5 spare part controller to replace a phase 3 controller.

Note: the LCD board, not the controller, determines whether the LCD displays “hrs/min” or “min” only.

When making up a test handle to use with integrated products, use the phase 3 LCD board 526203P or 527643P, because theold phase 3 and new phase 3.5 controllers will all drive it. (Note that it will always display hrs/min.)(An original phase 3 controller 526202, will not drive the phase 3.5 minutes only LCD boards, 526977P or 527644P)

DishDrawer Lid ActuatorsMARKETS: NZ, AU, EU, GB, USA, TW, JPMODELS: DD/DS603 seriesACTION: A number of lid actuators have been returned as noisy because the worm gear is slipping over the gear nut

when the lid is fully up. In each case it has been found that one of the clips on the bottom of the gearbox casewas either undone or broken.

This could potentially cause a flood ( F1) fault.

When inspecting lid actuators, check that the clips are done up fully and not broken. If broken, replace the lidactuator. If undone but still functioning correctly, re-fasten the clip.

Drying Fan Run TimeMARKETS: NZ, AUMODELS: DD603, DS603ACTION: Drying Fan run on time extended

The drying fan run time has been extended on all NZ and Australian products from serial number BEM750080 onwards, manufacturedfrom 17/5/04.The time changes from 30 minutes to 2 hours after the “end of cycle” beeps. This change was necessary to meet new Australasian test standards.

Trim Seal and Electronic ControllersMARKETS: NZ, AU, USA, EU/GB, TW, JP, ROWMODELS: DD603, DS603ACTION: Trim Seal Added

A new trim seal is now being added to the trim.

This is to address issues resulting from condensation forming outside the product.

At the same time, the drying fan run on time has been extended from 30 minutes to 2 hours to ensure that no moisture is retainedwithin the cavity. This required a new controller program and the issuing of new controller spare part numbers.

When replacing a controller in a product which has a trimseal fitted, a 527915 spare part controller must be fitted to ensure the fan run on time remains at 2 hours. This also applies to all NZand Australian products from BEM750080 onwards, as they already have 2 hour fan run on, as stated above under “Drying Fan RunTime.”

All previous spare part controller numbers will supersede to the new number on a use up basis. This means that when fitting a 527915controller to existing products which do not have a trim seal fitted, the fan run on time will change from 30 minutes to 2 hours, and thiswill need to be explained to the customer.

Trim Seal KitMARKETS: NZ, AU, USA, EU/GB, TW, JP, ROWMODELS: DD603, DS603ACTION: Trim Seal Kit

A Trim Seal Kit has been introduced for use on existing products where condensation is an issue. 527549 KIT DD TRIM SEALconsists of 1x trim seal upper, 2 x trim seals lower, and an instruction sheet. On single products the 2 lower seals are not used. Whenfitting a trim seal kit, the controller must also be replaced with the appropriate 527915 spare part controller (see above) so that the fanrun on time is extended from 30 minutes to 2 hours. This does not apply to all NZ and Australian products from BEM750080 onwards,as they already have 2 hour fan run on, as stated above under “Drying Fan Run Time”.

Lid ActuatorsMARKETS: NZ, AU, USA, EU/GB, TW, JP, ROWMODELS: DD603, DS603ACTION: Lid Actuators

A new cover has been designed to keep water from getting into and damaging the lidactuators. This has also resulted in a small change to the lid actuator screw arm, andthe slide bracket that the lid actuator mounts on to.

The new lid actuators are retrofittable to older products, but screw arms from the old lidactuator must not be fitted to the new. New actuators come with a new screw armfitted. Also care needs to be taken when fitting new actuators to older products so asnot to damage the rubber boot which sits over the screw arm. Once fitted, check alsothat the boot has not been displaced.

The clip, which holds the lid actuator on to the slide bracket, now locates on the insideof the bracket rather than on the bottom. We plan to introduce this change in toproduction on 5 July 2004. Spare part numbers will be the same as those shown aboveunder Lid Actuator Spares.

Controller / LCD matchingMARKETS: NZ, AU, USA, EU/GB, TW, JP, ROWMODELS: DD603, DS603WARRANTY: Not a warranty issue, information only.ACTION: Controller / LCD Matching

To match controllers and LCD’s on a 603 DishDrawer, it will be necessary to determine if it is a phase 3 or a phase 3.5 product. To dothis, first identify if the product displays hours / minutes (Phase 3), or minutes only (Phase 3.5) on the LCD. (In addition, all productsfitted with a water softener will be Phase 3.5, and will have “minutes only” LCDs.)

The table below shows the part number suffixes for the New Zealand and Australian markets (NAP for Phase 3, or HNAP for Phase3.5).

For the following markets, substitute NAP or HNAP with:

Poor Wash PerformanceMARKETS: NZ, AU, USA, EU/GB, TW, JP, ROWMODELS: DD603, DS603WARRANTY: Not a warranty issue, information onlyACTION: Spray Arm Binding on Rotor

In a few cases we have found spray arms binding on the motor rotor, resulting in poor wash performance. This is difficult to detect in acold product as the problem only occurs once the parts have heated up.

We recommend if a customer is experiencing wash performance issues and all other causes have been checked for, (refer Tech.Bulletin DW 040 – poor wash performance, Service Manual Section 7.4 - poor wash performance, User Guide – trouble shooting),replace the spray arm(s) with527475 SPRAY ARM ASSY SLUICING 03 18H,

Controller / LCD matching (from bulletin DW043 updated)MARKETS: NZ, AU, USA, EU-GB, TW, JP, ROWMODELS: DD603, DS603WARRANTY: Not a warranty issue, information only.ACTION: Controller / LCD Matching

To match controllers and LCD’s on a 603 DishDrawer, it will be necessary to determine if it is a phase 3 or a phase 3.5 product. To do this, first identify if the product displays hours / minutes (Phase 3), or minutes only (Phase 3.5) on the LCD. (In addition, allproducts fitted with a water softener will be Phase 3.5, and will have “minutes only” LCDs.)

The table below shows the part number suffixes for the New Zealand and Australian markets (NAP for Phase 3, or HNAP forPhase 3.5).

For the following markets, substitute NAP or HNAP with:

• USP or HUSP for US.• JAP or HJAP for Japan.• EUP or HEUP for Europe and the UK.

In both Phase 3 and Phase 3.5 models, the controller determines the program cycle times (Phase 3 and 3.5 cycle times aredifferent), and it is the LCD that determines the type of time display (ie. Phase 3 displays hrs/mins, Phase 3.5 displays mins.only).This means that you will need to keep both types of Controller for your market, and both types of LCD, in stock.Note: The new spare part controller 527915 has two hour fan run on, after the “end of cycle” beeps, where all previouscontrollers had 30 minutes fan run on. DishDrawer parts manuals MARKETS: NZ, AU, ROW, US, GB, EU, TW, JP MODELS: DD / DS 603 ACTION: To make identification of spare parts easier, DishDrawer Parts Manual 599084A now only contains parts used

in NZ, Australia, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and ROW markets. Two new parts manuals have been created for the US, and European / UK markets: 599242A DishDrawer Parts Manual – USA 599241A DishDrawer Parts Manual – Europe, United Kingdom, Whirlpool (EU), Bauknecht, Denmark These updated manuals are now available on CBW. They include parts for Designer series products and

EZKleen stainless steel doors.

DishDrawer EZKleen brushed stainless steel doors MARKETS: NZ, AU, ROW, US, GB, EU, TW, JP MODELS: DD / DS 603 ACTION: All brushed stainless steel products produced from 1 November (BUM serial number) onwards have EZKleen

(coated) stainless steel doors. In the parts manual, these are identified by the use of “SE” in the description eg;

527846 DOOR UPPER ASSY SE QFP PH3 Brushed stainless steel products up to and including BKM serial numbers have uncoated stainless steel doors, described in the parts manual as “SS” eg; 526237 DOOR UPPER ASSY SS QFP PH3 It is important that the correct type of door is ordered for replacements in the field.

DishDrawer U1 fault – water inlet valve MARKETS: NZ, AU, ROW, US, GB, EU, TW, JP MODELS: DD / DS 603 ACTION: All ph3.5 DishDrawers, (ie. products produced since 4 September 2002, UYM 735384 onwards) are fitted with

a 2.5 litre/min fill valve. In some rural installations where the water pressure is very low, the product may display a U1 fault because of

insufficient water. This can often be corrected by fitting a 4 litre/min valve. Use: 525113 VALVE INLET DOUBLE 4L for double products.

525842 VALVE INLET SINGLE 4L for single products.

The 4L valve must not be fitted to products which have water softeners.

DishDrawer F4 fault – controller replacements MARKETS: NZ, AU, ROW, US, GB, EU, TW, JP MODELS: DD / DS 603 ACTION: Many controllers returned from the field for a product which has had an F4 fault, are testing No Fault Found. When replacing a heater plate for an F4 fault, please retest the product with the original controller, rather than

assuming it needs replacing.

DishDrawer – fitting new lid actuators MARKETS: NZ, AU, ROW, US, GB, EU, TW, JP MODELS: DD / DS 603 ACTION: Some ASCs are experiencing problems fitting the new lid actuators (with the cover and boot, referred to in

technical bulletin DW043) to older products. This is probably because older slides had a lug in the cut-out that the lid actuator fits through. Care must be

taken not to damage the rubber boot on the lid actuator when fitting it to older products. All products fitted with new lid actuators in the factory have slide brackets with the new detail.

ELECTRONIC MODULESIMPORTANT NOTICE

“NO FAULT FOUND” ELECTRONIC MODULES (NZ, AUS, SGP, USA, UK)A large proportion of the electronic modules we receive, which have been replaced under warranty, arefound to have no fault. There is often no fault recorded in the diagnostic log.

ALL warranty claims received from 1st November must have the 12 digit serial number of the “faulty”electronic module and, where the module is not “dead”, the electronic fault code recorded on the form.

When the returned modules are tested and found to have no fault, we will provide your TechnicalRepresentative or FOR with details of the initial claim and the test results.

If we do not see a significant reduction in the number of “no fault found” electronic modules in the nearfuture, then we will be obliged to introduce a charge to reimburse Fisher & Paykel for the costs incurredfor any work undertaken that is subsequently proven to have been unnecessary.

This is the label on the module, containing theserial number that is required.
