July 2016
The big news this month is the shutdown of the
rifle range Monday thru Friday, July 18th thru
the 22nd. This is to replace the remaining 10 x 10
posts supporting the pole baffle system. New poles
have been ordered to fill out the roof system to its
original footprint. They will be installed when they
arrive, without more than a one or two hour
shutdown. We’ll work that activity in on a
Wednesday or Thursday when there’s no activity
on the range. We’ll also plan to complete any
electrical work with the least amount of disruption.
I have noticed in the last week or so that the fire
flies or lightening bugs as I referred to them as a
kid have returned. No, they are not part of my
plan to improve the lighting on the rifle range. I’ve
been testing an idea for lighting on the firing line of
the rifle range to replace the big gymnasium lights
now in place. Many have complained of reflection
from those lights on their scopes. If you’re at the
range after sundown try shutting down the big
lights and using the single flood light over one of
the shooting benches. It’s on an extension cord
that plugs into an outlet under the fuse box. I
have a 50 watt flood bulb in the fixture now. I’m
looking for some feedback. Good idea or not?
If you get the newsletter by e-mail, here’s a lastminute reminder of the July 4th picnic. Food andsoft drinks will be provided. The rifle range will
be open for 22 caliber rifle only. We’ll have the
spinner targets up at the 100 yard line. If you
don’t get the newsletter by e-mail and would like
to, please stop by the club and provide your nameand e-mail address. You’ll get the monthly
newsletter within the first few days of the month,
instead of the end of the month which is usuallywhen the postal service gets around to delivering
it. The next big event on the club calendar
is our annual club outing/open house and flea
market. This event is scheduled this year for
Sunday September 18th. The club tee shirt color
this year is …. I’m not telling, you’ll just have to
show up and buy one. Tell your friends, we’re
offering the same bargain as previous years for
membership. $100 gets new members the
remainder of 2016 and all of 2017.
I am seeing a lot of new faces on a regular basis at
the club which I’m glad to see, however we seem
to be having a bit of a membership retention issue.
I am dismayed to see a large number of delinquent
members this late in the year. This could be due to
the economy, availability of ammo, or some other
issues. If you think you have an idea as to how we
can do things better or differently, we’d love to
hear from you. I’m wide open to suggestions.
Please bring your ideas to the monthly meetings,
which are held on the third Monday of each month
starting at 7:30 pm in the club house.
Lastly, I want to mention that our club vice-
president, Bob Heigl will be out of action for a
while due to recent health issues. Hang in there
Bob, get well soon.
This great job of the Amerian Flag was done by
Mike Davalos and his son Arron thanks for the
great statment.
Happy Independence Day

Rifle League
Match Scores For June 2016
June’s match saw 11 shooters, including
one new rifleman. The match rifles once
again proved to be hard to beat. On the
opposite end, Bob Stott shot a 1917 Enfield
which wasn’t sighted in. The rest of us shot
the usual military rifles. Open was John
Johnson with a score of 392, followed by
Albert Rogers with a 386. Chuch Padulese
used an NRA target rifle for third place with
379. The best effort was put in by Ed
DiMaio using a stock M1 with military ball
ammo. He shot a 375 score to come in
fourth.
The rest: M Hladchuk --- 367 M1A
S D’arcangelo 365 AR-15
Ron Stone ---- 359 AR-15
John Sabo ---- 348 M1
Joe Buggey --- 315 AR-15
Bob Stott ---- 240 1917 EN
Terry Gibbs -- 177 M1A
Johnson, Rogers and Stone won awards.
The next match will be July 10th. Come to
the match and try your hand with that rifle
sitting in your safe. No one will say a thing
about your score and I guarantee you’ll have
a fun time. If you lack a mat or a scope or a
sling, or even a rifle someone or the club
will lend it to you (except ammo) so you can
shoot.

X Ring Match ScoresFor June 19th 2016
On Sunday June 19th we shot our 6th match
of the 2016 season. This happened to be
our annual Father’s Day match followed by a
well deserved luncheon for all participants. The
weather could not have been nicer as well as
all the shooters getting together to shoot this
all .22cal match. I think everyone had a great
time and enjoyed the match. The results are
below.

So there they are – the results from the firstcowboy match at Holmesburg ever. Cash
awards went to the competitors finishing A1
and B1. True there were only 6 shooters, but there were more folks watching than
shooting. Everyone who shot had a blast! I
have hope that means more shooters will
turn out for the Center-Fire Cowboy Gun
match on July 3rd, which will also be in thebooks by the time you get to read this.
Now here’s the deal – let me know what
you thought of the matches. Should we run
more of these, or look for something else to
bring more shooters out for a little friendlycompetition? I do hope you decide to come
on out and see us sometime – even if it is
just to say, Howdy!”

Sunday Hunting
Thank you Chairman Scavello, ChairmanBrewster, and members of the Senate
Game & Fisheries Committee for the op-portunity to come before you today in re-gards to the expansion of Sunday hunting inPennsylvania. I am Bryan Burhans, DeputyExecutive Director for the PennsylvaniaGame Commission. To be clear, we arein fact talking about the expansionof Sunday hunting opportunities in Pennsyl-vania. Currently hunting on Sundays is per-mitted on a very limited basis in terms ofspecies, but it is legalevery Sunday throughout the year, not justthe typical hunting season. I believe thatpoint bears repeating –every Sunday throughout the year. Wehave one of the most restrictive lawsfor Sunday hunting, and it is important tonote that only four states currentlyprohibit Sunday hunting altogether – Maine,Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Dela-ware. Contrary to some rhetoric that isfloating around out there, the No. 1 reasonthat people stop hunting is lack of time. Theoverwhelming majority of hunting takesplace on Saturdays; people work during theweek, don’t get a lot of time off, have othercommitments, etc. For a lot of hunters theonly option is Saturday. Byexpanding Sunday hunting, we would beable to increase recreational opportunitiesfor hunters. Sunday hunting is an effectivemeans of recruiting new hunters and retain-ing current hunters by increasing the valueof the hunting license through offering addi-tional opportunities to spend time in the field.
