God in all things

Dear St. Andrew Catholic School Families,

At St. Andrew Catholic School, we believe that spiritual and academic growth is a lifelong process so in order to prevent the summer

slide, here is the expected summer assignments for your child.

First, you make ask, what is Summer Slide?

Summer Slide is what happens when the skills students learn during the school year are lost or forgotten over the summer. When kids

do not practice their reading skills during the summer months, they can fall behind by the time school starts again. Summer may be

winding down, but it is not too late to polish up those reading skills in time for August!

Why is it so important to prevent Summer Slide?

When children do not read over the summer, they can fall two years behind by 5th grade. We believe that teamwork leads us to our

goals so it is always important to support your child’s learning at home, and over the summer is critical.

How can I prevent Summer Slide?

You can prevent the summer slide but making sure your child does the below assigned summer assignment for their grade level. Do

not let your child wait until the last minute but read or do a portion of their assignment daily in order to keep their brains thinking.

Blessings, Latrina Peters-Gipson
