Worthy is the Lamb

Friends,

Following our celebration of Easter Sunday we continue to consider the significance of a

Risen Lord. What are the implications of Jesus’ resurrection for all humanity, for all

creation, for all time and space?

Truthfully, for those of us who can say like Mary Magdalene, “I have seen the Lord”, our

whole lives will be spent pursuing the wonder and the mystery of the resurrection. And like

Mary, it is not the empty tomb, or the angels, or even the chance to escape death which

captivates us, but only Jesus Himself, the Son of God, the Word made flesh, the Risen Lord,

the King of Kings, the Lamb who was slain, the One who was and is and is to come, the One

who is worthy to receive blessing and honor and glory forever! Jesus triumphant but also

Jesus personal—our Rabboni!

On Sunday, April 10th we begin a new 5 week worship series entitled “Worthy is the Lamb”

wherein we will dive further into the meaning of knowing a Risen Lord. We will dive into

worship, the sovereignty of God, Christology—the nature of Christ, salvation, the

reconciliation of all things, new creation, and much, much more.

Imagine beginning worship hearing thousands upon thousands, “every creature in heaven and

on earth and under the earth and in the sea” shouting in unison Revelation 5:12-13 (ESV):

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might

and honor and glory and blessing!” “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

What a wonder it will be to worship there someday, and what a privilege it is to gather every

week with brothers and sisters for a foretaste when we worship passionately and reverently.

Here is your chance to read ahead:

Sunday, April 10th—Revelation 1:4-8; 5:11-14

Sunday, April 17th—Revelation 7:9-17

Sunday, April 24th—Revelation 21:1-6

Sunday, May 1st—Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5

Sunday, May 8th—Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17, 20-21

I hope you can join us this season as we worship Jesus, declaring “Worthy is the Lamb!”

Blessings, Pastor Bryan

Methodist Women’s C.O.F.F.E.E. (Christ Offers Forgiveness For Everyone Everywhere)

The next Methodist Women’s C.O.F.F.E.E. is Tuesday, April 12 2016 at 9:30

a.m. in Fellowship Hall. This is an informal gathering for all Rockville First

United Methodist Women. We hope to see you there! All Methodist women

are welcome to join in the fun and fellowship.

It’s time to start thinking about summer camp! There are two reasons to start thinking about camp in April -

scholarships and Early Bird discounts.

Scholarships are available based on financial need, but there are limited funds, so you need to apply as soon as

possible. Applications can be picked up in the office, or found online at beacamper.com.

Early Bird pricing is good through April 18, 2016 and will save you $30 for full-week camps and $15 for partial-week

camps. Cost for camp, without Early Bird pricing, ranges from $229-$449 depending on the camp selected, which is

why Early Bird pricing and scholarships are so important.

In addition to the scholarships offered through the camp, our church has set up its own scholarship fund.

To find out more about the camps that are available, visit the camp website for the Indiana Conference of the

United Methodist Church: beacamper.com. Camps are available for kids and youth in grades K-12.

2016 VISITATION SCHEDULE

Pastor Bryan is working on his 2016 Visitation Schedule. If you would like Pastor Bryan to

visit you in your home, please call or email the office to be added to his list. Pastor Bryan

will visit you as his time and availability allow, working through his list alphabetically.

Don’t wait to call - Pastor Bryan won’t know you want a home

visit unless we hear from you!

NATIVE AMERICAN MINISTRIES SUNDAY

APRIL 10, 2016

Together, We Empower Local Spiritual Development and Educate

Native American Seminary Students to Serve God Faithfully

One tribe in North America has told this story for centuries: when people “pale as birch” crossed the great water in

large canoes, they brought with them “The Black Book.” However, the bringers of the physical Book could not have

known what it would mean and look like to be a Native and a follower of Jesus.

Today Native Americans - with many unique languages, many unique cultures - honor their heritage, and live as Jesus-

followers, led by a rotation of primarily Native American pastors.

Supporting the Ministry of Christ Among Native People

Most Americans today recognize the history following the arrival of the large canoes bore little resemblance to the one

all Christians identify as Creator. That’s why the people of The United Methodist Church, Native and non-Native, are

creating a new history. Through Native American Ministries Sunday, we’re able to equip and empower Native

American pastors, congregations and seminary students to do what only they can do: authentically worship and serve

Jesus.

As a member of The United Methodist Church, your gift, on this day, equips Native congregations - like New York’s

Onondaga Nation UMC and Nebraska’s American Sacred Winds congregation - to worship and serve as only they can.

This work, and hundreds of other ministries, are possible because you give.

Our Giving Allows Native Americans to Encounter, Worship and Serve Jesus

When you support Native American Ministries Sunday, you equip seminary students who will honor and celebrate

native American culture in their ministries. And you empower congregations that are finding fresh new ways to

minister to their communities with the love of Christ.

Page 6 METHODIST MOUNTAIN MISSION

The United Methodist Mountain Mission has been serving the people of eastern Kentucky since

1943. We have 8 opportunity stores in Kentucky that are located in Barbourville, Irvine, Harlan,

Hazard, Jackson, Pineville, West Liberty, and Burkesville. We have trucks that travel to churches

in Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania and throughout Kentucky to pick up donated

items. With the help of our supporters we are able to provide gently used clothing and

household items at a reasonable price.

We are in need of several items to be used in our Processing Plant:

Hand soap for the restrooms

Bath tissue for the restrooms

Garbage bags - 13 gallon and up (we even have a can that uses 40 gallon)

Paper towels

Dust mops

Regular mops

Brooms

Good rubber bands (to put pairs of shoes together)

Safety pins

Coffee

Creamer

Coffee cups

AND WE NEED LOTS OF BANANA BOXES

(these stack so well in the Warehouse -- and we have run very low on them)

AND Men's and Children's Clothing - both summer and winter

We still, of course, take all those other wonderful items you give. What is listed above is in short

supply here at the Mission.

Thank you!

THE LAST DAY TO BRING YOUR ITEMS TO THE CHURCH IS APRIL 14, 2016.

PLEASE USE PLASTIC BAGS AND PLACE YOUR DONATIONS UNDER

THE STEPS AT THE YORK STREET ENTRANCE.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS WORKSHOP

Saturday, April 9, 2016

9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Rockville First United Methodist Church - Fellowship Hall

Teacher: Connie Becker

Description:

Every disciple of Christ is filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, specially gifted to play a unique and

valued role in the body of Christ. No one is without gift or purpose. Spiritual gifts are not our talents

or skills. They are the grace of God at work within us, empowering us to match our deep passions with

the world’s deep need. The gifts are given to individuals, but they are given to build and strengthen

community and to meet the needs of those around us. Come discover your gifts. Better understand

yourself, your brothers and sisters in Christ, and how we together can love God, neighbor, and the

world. Gifts are given to us to give away!

Please bring your own sack lunch. Dessert will be provided.

A PRAYER IN SPRING

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers today;

And give us not to think so far away

As the uncertain harvest, keep us here

All simply In the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,

Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;

And make us happy in the happy bees,

The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird

That suddenly above the bees is heard,

The meteor that thrust with needle bill,

And off a blossom in mid-air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,

The which it is reserved for God above

To sanctify to what far ends he will,

But which if only needs that we fulfill.
