SUNDAY SCHOOL 9:30 WORSHIP SERVICE 10:30
From the Colemine
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one
another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John
13:34,35
There is a song we sing every now and then called “They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love”. The song
was written in 1966 in a time of turmoil in this country during the Vietnam War. The idea at the time was if we
could just get everyone together and love one another we could bring peace to our world. To quote Dr. Phil, “How is
that working out for you?”
It doesn’t seem like we have come much closer to accomplishing this 50 years later than we were then. We have
wars and potential wars going on in other parts of the world and people being attacked in our own country. It
doesn’t look like the Kingdom of God is coming to our world any time soon.
Some progress has been made however. We are having more acceptance of people of different racial and ethnic
backgrounds than we had fifty years ago. Equal rights for women has improved and people with special needs are
given the help they need. No things aren’t perfect, but we have made progress. It is kind of like we make three steps
forward and two steps back. But at least we are headed in the right direction. We need to keep heading that way.
There is an old saying, “If you were put on trial for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict
you?” Do they really know we are Christians by our love? We are not able to do this by our own power, but by let-
ting the Holy Spirit work in us to let God’s love work in us to love others.

September—Beacon Distribu-
tion Month
One ministry of the Mission Committee
and the First United Methodist Church
is to support families in need. Our
church has always been a big support-
er for the Beacon. Let us continue that
tradition. September is one of two
months during the year we collect items
for the Beacon. We ask for your help in
September to line the sanctuary with
needed items. Items needed include:
paper towels, canned soups, canned
fruits, corn muffin mix, breakfast cereal,
spaghetti and spaghetti sauce , 1# bag
of dried beans. Other items are always
welcome.

Faith Builders in September
We will continue in the Adam Hamilton DVD study of “Moses: In the Footsteps of the Reluctant Prophet.” In August, we’ve covered the birth of Moses and moments that defined the man. On the fours Sundays of September we will cover The Exodus, The Ten Commandments, Les-sons from the Wilderness, and Don’t Forget–Pass It On. This study includes film clips narrated by Adam Hamilton as he takes us on a tour of
the footsteps of Moses. Come join us for coffee, fellowship, and study. Ron Wood
Summer is Over—Back to Church
It seems that we have slipped some during the summer in attending worship services. September is always a time when we get things restarted; vacations are over and school begins. Let’s get restarted in September in attending wor-ship. I hope to see you in Church!

Please pray for our church and our campaign.
