L.I .New topic this term. Plants. Science To be able to identify and describe the function of the roots. In work book, children write the word plants in the middle of their page, around which they record down everything they know about plants and any questions they want to find out.

The children then watch the following video and relate any of what they see to what they thought the plant need in order to survive. http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/what-do-plants-need-for-healthy-growth-no-narration/2282.html Children note down what a plant needs to survive. I The following video explains why plants are living things. http://www.bbc.co.uk/learningzone/clips/how-do-we-know-plants-are-living-things/4673.html From video clip can you summarise what makes a plant alive? Why is it a living thing?

Spelling: Please choose 10 words from the Year 1/2 or

have your spellings for the next 6 weeks in the back of the

red book)

If possible children find a small plant or weed from outside or inside and take a closer look at it. Can they draw it in their book and label its parts. I have included a sheet to help you the names and spellings of each part of the plant.

Optional mini investigation

Simple test - How can we prove that stems transport water?

Place a white carnation and a stick of celery into separate containers of water. Add a dark food colouring like red or blue to the water and mark the water level on the container. Over the next several days observe what happens to the plants and the water. You may want to mark the water level each day. As the water level goes down the petals of the carnation and the leaves of the celery will begin to change to the colour of the food colourings. Recording

Draw each of the stems before and after they have been placed in the water/dye mixture. The children could also record the height of the water each day. They can explain what they think has happened.

L.I. PSHE I can identify the roles and responsibilities of each member of my family and can reflect on the expectations for males and females I can describe how taking some responsibility in my family makes me feel. Vocabulary Men Women Male Female Unisex Role Job Responsibilities Differences Similarities Respect Stereotype Look at the list of jobs on the resource page? Talk about them and decide whether they should be done by a male or female and reasons why you think this. Are there some jobs that are more suitable? for women? Why? Are there any jobs that only men can do? Are there any jobs that only women can do? Whose responsibility is it? Who does what jobs in your house?

Objectives: We are

learning to understand the Hindu belief that there is one God with many different aspects. We will

understand this by looking at ourselves. Task. Think about

answering the following questions about yourself... I can explain how I may be

special in different ways to different people. I can explain some of the

different roles I play whilst still being me. I can describe some of the

characteristics that make me me even when I am playing

different roles. Task. Draw a picture pf

yourself in your workbook around which write down all the roles and responsibilities

you have as a person in school, home, clubs or within

your family. Eg. At home I am a cook, cleaner, nurse

and politician because I have to cook food for my family. I

have to sort out any injuries and illnesses within my

family. Whilst I am at school I am a counsellor because I listen to children's concerns

and have to sort them out.

Please attempt to do flag questions 1 and 2

Day 2. For concrete objects children could use pieces of coloured paper cut into squares or coloured sweets or cereal ?

Page 24: First Tower Home Learning Year 3 week 3. · First Tower Home Learning Year 3 week 3. Year Group: 3 Week beginning: 20/4/20 English Our English work is based on a new text, Ottoline

The children can draw this as an array as they have been learning about arrays, so for 30 children, they would need 30 objects and put the sweets in to rows of 5. We know

that there are 5 groups . We can then draw rows of 5. The we look at how many in one row, which would be one fifth and as there are 4 fifths we multiply the one fifth by 5 to

get the answer.
