FORMED.ORG PRESENTS TWO WAYS TO DEEPEN YOUR FAITH DURING ADVENT:

Advent is here, and our entire parish has an opportunity to prepare for Christmas by watching a series on FORMED! Beginning December 2, watch a thirty-minute episode of Prepare the Way: An Advent Journey during each week of Advent. Watch on your own, with your family, or with a group of friends. Let’s all make Christ a part of our Christmas preparations. There are accompanying discussion guides that help penetrate the truth and beauty of these topics.

This week, login to formed.org, go to the “Community” section, and watch Prepare the Way, Session 4: “The Story of Salvation.” How did the events of the ancient past set into motion God’s rescue operation to save us from sin and eternal death?

This Advent, FORMED is offering daily Advent reflections for the whole family direct to your email inboxes. Participants will receive a daily video reflection from Dr. Tim Gray and can opt to add children’s reflections from beloved animated character Brother Francis. Login to formed.org to sign up. Haven’t signed up for your free FORMED account? Register at spxreynoldsburg.formed.org.

ADOPT-A-CHILD COLLECTION WEEKEND IS COMING UP THE WEEKEND OF DECEMBER 8/9. The Adopt-A-Child program has been able to fulfill Christmas wishes throughout the years for hundreds of families in both our St. Pius X community and beyond. This year, we will be working with the following groups: The Bish Foundation, which supports children that have cancer along with their families; Leads (Pataskala) a community outreach program for children; Choices Domestic Violence Shelter, and Our Lady of Guadalupe Center. The collection weekend will be December 8-9 before and after all Masses. Gifts should be dropped off in the CAFETERIA. Monetary donations will be accepted during both weekends and monetary donations may be dropped off at the Rectory until December 17. Oftentimes, we get families from our parish and the surrounding area that have last minute needs, so monetary donations are a huge help in the effort St. Pius X makes in fulfilling those needs and wishes. If you have any questions or know of any families in need, please contact Ashleigh Mashensic at 440-453-4456 or [email protected].

SPX ADULT BOWLING LEAGUE TO BEGIN ON JANUARY 3! Beginning January 3, 2019 at Holiday Lanes on Broad Street, Parish Council will be sponsoring a Parish Bowling League for members of the parish who are 21 years of age and older. This will be a 12-week league on Friday nights at 7:00 p.m. The cost is $140.00 per person for the 12 weeks. These will be four-person teams and should be a lot of fun and provide a great time for friends to gather and enjoy time together. If you would like more information or to sign up, please contact Brian Sauer at 614-649-0411 or at [email protected]. When signing up, please give him your name and contact information as well as the number of people and their names that you wish to sign up.

SAINT OF THE DAY FOR DECEMBER 2

Blessed Rafal Chylinski (January 8, 1694-December 2, 1741)

Blessed Rafal Chylinski’s Story:

Born near Buk in the Poznan region of Poland, Melchior Chylinski showed early signs of religious devotion; family members nicknamed him “the little monk.” After completing his studies at the Jesuit college in Poznan, Melchior joined the cavalry and was promoted to officer rank within three years.

In 1715, against the urgings of his military comrades, Melchior joined the Conventual Franciscans in Krakow. Receiving the name Rafal, he was ordained two years later. After pastoral assignments in nine cities, he came to Lagiewniki, where he spent the last 13 years of his life, except for 20 months ministering to flood and epidemic victims in Warsaw. In all these places, Rafal was known for his simple and candid sermons, for his generosity, as well as for his ministry in the confessional. People of all levels of society were drawn to the self-sacrificing way he lived out his religious profession and priestly ministry. Rafal played the harp, lute, and mandolin to accompany liturgical hymns. In Lagiewniki, he distributed food, supplies, and clothing to the poor. After his death, the Conventual church in that city became a place of pilgrimage for people throughout Poland. He was beatified in Warsaw in 1991.

The sermons preached by Rafal were powerfully reinforced by the living sermon of his life. The Sacrament of Reconciliation can help us bring our daily choices into harmony with our words about Jesus’ influence in our lives.
