First Sunday of Lent (Cycle B) A Sunday Reflection THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND. REPENT AND BELIEVE IN THE GOSPEL (Mk

1;15).

With these words we began last Wednesday the holy season of Lent. In St. Mark’s gospel, Jesus begins His ministry with these words. The prophecies are fulfilled; the Messiah is with us.

But first, before He makes any announcement, the Spirit drives Jesus into the desert “to be tempted”(1:13). As is usual in Mark, there is a sense of urgency in the fact that He “is driven”. The Lord must go through what we all go through in order to take our faults and sins upon Himself. Victorious after His trial, “He was among wild beasts, and the angels ministered to Him” (1:13).

During this Lent let us humbly ask the Lord for His grace that we may withstand temptation and be open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

My sincere thanks to all who have contributed to the ABCD campaign. I again encourage those who haven’t to consider pledging $1 a day for a year. The Lord will reward you. God bless you.

Reflexión Dominical

ESTÁ CERCA EL REINO DE DIOS: ARREPIÉNTANSE Y CREAN EN EL EVANGELIO (Mc 1,15).

Con estas palabras comenzamos el miércoles pasado el santo tiempo de Cuaresma. En el evangelio de San Marcos Jesús comienza su ministerio con estas palabras. Se han cumplido las profecías; el Mesías está entre nosotros.

Pero antes de hacer ningún anuncio, el Espíritu empuja a Jesús al desierto, donde “fue tentado” (1,13). Como es común en Marcos, sentimos esa urgencia en el hecho de que “lo empuja”. El Señor ha de pasar por todo lo que pasamos nosotros para tomar sobre sí nuestras faltas y pecados. Victorioso de esta prueba, “vivía con las fieras y los ángeles le servían” (1,13).

En esta Cuaresma pidamos al Señor humildemente la gracia de resistir a la tentación y de abrirnos a las inspiraciones del Espíritu Santo.

Gracias una vez más a todos los que han contribuido a la campaña del ABCD. De nuevo invito a quienes aún no lo han hecho que consideren comprometerse con $1 diario por un año. El Señor se los pagará. Que Dios los bendiga.

Catholics 14 years and older are bound to abstain from meat.

The Pope Speaks / Habla el Papa Lenten Message 2021

“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem” (Mt 20:18).

LENT: A TIME FOR RENEWING FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE

Jesus revealed to his disciples the deepest meaning of his mission

when he told them of his passion, death and resurrection, in fulfilment of

the Father’s will. He then called the disciples to share in this mission for

the salvation of the world.

In our Lenten journey towards Easter, let us remember the One who

“humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a

cross” (Phil 2:8). During this season of conversion, let us renew our faith,

draw from the “living water” of hope, and receive with open hearts the

love of God, who makes us brothers and sisters in Christ.

Fasting, prayer and almsgiving, as preached by Jesus (cf. Mt 6:1- 18),

enable and express our conversion. The path of poverty and self-denial

(fasting), concern and loving care for the poor (almsgiving), and childlike

dialogue with the Father (prayer) make it possible for us to live lives of

sincere faith, living hope and effective charity.

CUARESMA: UN TIEMPO PARA RENOVAR LA FE, LA ESPERANZA Y LA CARIDAD

Cuando Jesús anuncia a sus discípulos su pasión, muerte y

resurrección, para cumplir con la voluntad del Padre, les revela el

sentido profundo de su misión y los exhorta a asociarse a ella, para la

salvación del mundo.

Recorriendo el camino cuaresmal, que nos conducirá a las

celebraciones pascuales, recordemos a Aquel que «se humilló a sí

mismo, hecho obediente hasta la muerte, y una muerte de cruz» (Flp

2,8). En este tiempo de conversión renovemos nuestra fe, saciemos

nuestra sed con el “agua viva” de la esperanza y recibamos con el

corazón abierto el amor de Dios que nos convierte en hermanos y

hermanas en Cristo.

El ayuno, la oración y la limosna, tal como los presenta Jesús en su

predicación (cf. Mt 6,1-18), son las condiciones y la expresión de

nuestra conversión. La vía de la pobreza y de la privación (el ayuno), la

mirada y los gestos de amor hacia el hombre herido (la limosna) y el

diálogo filial con el Padre (la oración) nos permiten encarnar una fe

sincera, una esperanza viva y una caridad operante.

As part of our Lenten observance the parish will hold bilingual Stations of the Cross on the Fridays of Lent at 6:30 pm, in the plaza. Como parte de nuestra observancia cuaresmal la parroquia celebrará el Viacrucis bilingüe todos los viernes de Cuaresma a las 6:30 pm, en la plaza.

Consecration to St. Joseph will take place on his feast day, March 19. In celebration of this solemnity, a Mass in the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Liturgy (traditional Latin Mass) will be celebrated at 7 pm. La consagración a San José tendrá lugar el 19 de marzo, día de su fiesta. Para celebrar esta solemnidad se celebrará una misa usando la Forma Extraordinaria de la Liturgia Romana, en latín, a las 7 pm.

“Angels Unawares”, a traveling bronze, life-size sculpture depicting refugees and immigrants fleeing that was unveiled by Pope Francis in September, 2019, will be on display at Miami’s Bayfront Park until April 8, 2021. The sculpture’s name makes reference to the passage in Hebrews 13:2 that reads “Do not neglect hospitality, for through it some have unknowingly entertained angels unawares.” Find out more by visiting www.angelsunawares.org. “Angels Unawares”, una escultura itinerante de bronce, tamaño natural, que presenta a refugiados e inmigrantes en fuga, fue develada por el Papa Francisco en septiembre de 2019 y se exhibirá en el Bayfront Park de Miami hasta el 8 de abril de 2021. The 8th grade ELA on-level class beautifully designed, constructed and illustrated handmade novels of their assigned literary figure. This literature project allowed students a greater understanding of their esteemed author and their most popular and groundbreaking pieces of literary works.

Fr. Luis visited the accelerated 8th grade science class and their teacher, Ms. Concepción, to bless them and their project as they prepare to compete in the Future City Regional Competition.
