WHAT IS GRAPHIC DESIGN?

Graphic Design used to be called Commercial Art and is commonly known today as Visual Communication. It comprises corporate design (logos, letterheads, company reports), poster design, book and magazine Illustration and layout, Packaging, Stamp Design, Typography, Web Design, Computer Games etc.

The term Graphic Design was first used in 1922 by William Addison Dwiggins, the American, illustrator, typographer, calligrapher and book designer.

WHAT IS GRAPHIC DESIGN?

A Graphic Designer creates visual solutions that communicate a message or concept to a target audience. They usually work to a brief agreed with the client.

The modern graphic designer not only needs to be able to draw but should also have working skills in digital imaging and desktop publishing software. They need to be creative, up to date with the latest stylistic developments in their field and possess a professional attitude to costing and time management.
