15.14 Salient Observations:

15.14.1 Engine Performance:

i) The backup torque is 5.30%. This is considered on lower side.

Necessary action may be taken for necessary improvement.

ii) The maximum power was observed as 9.1 kW

15.14.2 Rotary shaft performance:

i) The maximum rotary shaft power was measured as 6.9 kW.

15.14.3 Mechanical Vibration:

The amplitude of mechanical vibration on maximum controls /

measuring points of the power tiller exceeded the limit of 100 micron.

The mechanical vibration is directly concerned with

Human/Operator’s Health, Safety and Comfort; apart from the useful

life of the machine’s components. In view of the above, this deserves to be given top priority for corrective action.

15.14.4 Noise measurement:

Max. Noise at operator’s ear level and by stander’s position was

observed as 94 dB(A) and 88 dB(A).The noise observed at operator’s ear level is more than the limit specified by IS:12239 (Part3) – 1988.

The Sound Pressure Level is directly influencing the

Human/Operator’s Health, Safety and Comfort; and therefore

warrants the corrective action.




15.14.5 Haulage test

15.14.5.1 The power tiller was recommended for haulage test with a trailer of

gross mass of 1.25 tonne .

15.14.5.2 The trailer supplied by the firm, does not meet the requirement of IS:

10806 : 2003 and therefore corrective action may be undertaken for

compliance.

15.14.5.3 Distance traveled per litre was observed 11.38 to 11.64 km.

15.14.5.4 Specific fuel consumption was observed 68.73 to 70.30 cc/km/ton

15.14.6 Rotavator Blades :

i) The hardness of hatchet blades and straight blades do not meet, in

full, the requirement of IS: 6690-1981. This may be looked into for

necessary action. This may be looked into for corrective action.

ii) The chemical composition of Straight blades and Hatchet blades does

not meet, in full, the requirement of IS: 6690-1981.

15.14.7.1

As per IS: 12239 (Part 3) – 1988, balancing mass to be added to

achieve correct weight balance of the power tiller with various

attachments should be recommended by the manufacturer in the

operator manual. This may be examined for compliance.

15.14.7.2

Provision of spark arresting device may be considered for

incorporation in the exhaust system.

15.14.7.3 The hitch bracket with the sample does not meet the requirement of

IS: 10743-1983. This may be looked to for compliance.

15.14.7.4

The labeling plate provided on the machine does not give full

information. It is therefore recommended that, a labeling plate with

following information may be provided on the machine

15.14.7.5

The handle grip does not meet the requirement of IS: 11858 – 1986.

This may be looked into for compliance.

15.15 Adequacy of literature supplied with the machine:

However, it is recommended that the Operator Manual may be

brought out in accordance with IS: 8132-1999 with inclusion of,

interalia, the following: -
