Chapter 2: Testing Consilium recommends that the fire alarm system is tested at least once a year to assure correct function. The CS4000 has a special test mode, which makes the testing easier. Characteristics for a zone in test mode:

It will not activate any external alarm devices or controls in case of a fire (this function can be turned off).

The alarm level is lowered to give quick response to test gas. Detectors and manual call points in the zone will blink. Each tested detector and manual call point will indicate

activation with a red LED. The units in alarm are automatically reset when the heat or

smoke concentration is under the alarm level or if the manual call point is reset.

Fire alarms from zones not in test mode will be handled normally by the system. Note: The tested zone will automatically return to normal operation after two hours. Test a fire-detecting zone Put the zone into test mode: Menu/ 3 Disconnections/ 1 New disconn./ 5 Test Mode. Enter the zone number and confirm with OK button The indications DISC., TEST and ZONE/UNIT will be lit to confirm the test mode. It is now safe to test each detector, manual call point etc in this fire zone during two hours. Use suitable testing equipment, available from Consilium. All alarms will be listed under: Menu/ 7 History/ 1 Fire History List

Heat detectors Heat detectors are preferably tested with heat detector tester VDT-1, part. no. 9300, available from Consilium.

Apply heat to the sensing element until alarm is indicated by a red indication.

Important: If other test equipments are used, for example cigarette lighter or heating gun, make sure not to over-heat the detector by holding the heat-source to close to the detector. This will damage the detectors, for example causing the plastic to melt.

Smoke detectors Smoke detectors are preferably tested with test gas equipment Solo 330, available from Consilium.

Spray test gas on to the detector during 0.5 second. Wait 10 seconds until new gas is sprayed during 1 second. Repeat this procedure until the detector indicates alarm with a red indication.

If other test methods are used, make sure not to damage the detector.

Flame detectors Flame detectors may be tested with an ordinary cigarette lighter.

Turn up the flame to a height of approximately 5 cm. Hold it in front of the detector at a distance of about 2-5 meters. Move the lighter slowly during the test to obtain a flickering flame until alarm is indicated with a red indication.

Test Fault conditions The fire alarm central continuously monitors the system components and will report any fault condition on the control panel with both optical and audible indication. It is possible to test fault indications by following the below procedures: Please note that a fault condition is only possible to reset when the cause is remedied.

Removed detector fault 1. Remove a detector. 2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control

unit (this may take up to 1 minute). 3. Reinsert the detector 4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.

Fuse fault Note: Before a fuse is removed, make sure which functions that will be affected by the removal.

1. Remove a fuse. 2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control

unit (this may take up to 1 minute). 3. Reinsert the fuse. 4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.

Battery fault 1. Remove a battery fuse. 2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control

unit (this may take up to 1 minute). 3. Reinsert the fuse. 4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.

Earth fault 1. Connect one of the loop cables to earth via a

2,7kOhm resistor. 2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control

unit (this may take up to 1 minute). 3. Remove the earth connection. 4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.

Loop cable break 1. Open up the loop cable. 2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control

unit (this may take up to 1 minute). 3. If the detector loop is double fed: Verify that

each of the two branches can detect fire alarms by testing a detector on each branch.

4. Close the loop cable. 5. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.

Power supply Test the back up power supply (emergency 230VAC or batteries).

1. Removing the mains power supply. 2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control

unit (this may take up to 1 minute), and that the system remains operational.

3. If there is an emergency power supply in addition to the batteries, remove this also. The system should now operate on the batteries only.

4. Connect all disconnected power supplies. 5. Reset the fault condition(s) on the control

panel.

Reset test mode After testing it is important to return the tested zone into normal condition again. Make sure that there are no detectors or manual call points still in alarm before leaving test mode. The zones in test mode are listed in the disconnection list, found under: Menu/3 Disconnections /2 Disconnection list. Choose the zone in the disconnection list and then press RESET. Test the control unit display It is possible to test the alphanumerical display, all indications on the control panel and the local buzzer with the function Test display, found under: Menu/ 5 Settings/ 4 Test display.

Chapter 3: Cleaning of fire detectors The CS4000 fire alarm system continuously monitors the detectors and will give early warnings if they are polluted or malfunctioning in other ways. The methods for cleaning detectors depends of the type of detector, see below. If the cleaning is initiated by a “dirty sensor” fault in the control panel, then try to reset this fault after cleaning. If this does not succeed, replace the detector. Smoke detectors Clean the detector with a vacuum cleaner or by blowing high-pressure instrument air on it. The detector house is cleaned with a damp cloth. Note: The high-pressure air must be of instrument type (clean, not containing oil etc.) Heat detectors The sensor part does normally not need to be cleaned. The detector house is cleaned with a damp cloth. Flame detectors Clean the protective glass over the sensor by a grease solvent such as soap or alcohol. The detector house is cleaned with a damp cloth.

Instruction 1. Disconnect the faulty detector and remove it from the

base plate. Note: Some bases have a lock mechanism on the side. This lock shall either be pulled or pressed (depends on base model).

2. Check the ID settings on the address switch for the faulty detector. See section “ID address on DIP switches” for explanation of the ID address.

3. Set the corresponding ID on the address switch for the new detector.

4. Seal the address switch on the detectors with the attached label after the address has been set.

5. Connect and mount the new detector. 6. Check and reset any fault codes generated by the

replaced faulty detector. 7. Perform a function test of the detector according to the

chapter Testing.

ID address on DIP switches All addressable loop units must be given an address between 1-254 to be operational. The loop units located on the same physical loop must all have unique addresses. The address is set either by a 8 pole DIP switch located on each addressable unit, or (for units without physical address switch) with the address programming tool EV-AD. (See separate instruction) The DIP switch values follow the binary system.

The switches numbered 1,2,3,4 and 6 are set to ON position. The values for these switches are 1+2+4+8+32=47. Important: Seal the address switch on the detectors with the attached label after the address has been set.

Hot Plug&Play (adding/deleting loop units) The CS4000 system is equipped with a Hot Plug&Play function enabling the user to add or delete detectors during normal operation without the need to change the configuration file with a PC and restarting the system. The configuration file may be updated during normal operation from service menu 6:5 or direct from the fault list, menu 1.1. This function is very useful, especially during installation. If the CS4000 central detects additional or missing loop units, they are simply added to/deleted from the configuration file during normal operation. Note: The changes to the configuration file is updated in the RAM memory, but will not saved permanently until it has been saved under: Menu/ 6 Service menu/ 9 Save changes to configuration. If the configuration file is not changed permanently, any changes done will be lost if the system is re-started.

Change configuration file from the fault list Adding a loop unit from the fault list If the CS4000 detects additional or missing loop units compared to the configuration file, they are added to the fault list.

1. Open the fault list: Menu/ 1 Fault alarms/ 1 Fault list 2. Select the detector to add from the list (fault no. 3 is

selected in the below example). Loop Units generating fault no 152 (present not configured) can be added to the systems configuration.

4. Enter the data required for the new loop unit in dialog box Add loop unit. Central, Board, Loop and Zone must exist in the Systems Configuration to be valid. Physical Unit Address may NOT exist on the physical loop already. Logical Zone number may NOT exist on the chosen Zone. T1 and T2 are supplementary Text 1 and 2, and are entered as on a Mobile Telephone.

5. Press OK. The configuration file is now updated in the RAM memory. Wait approx. 20 sec. before reset.

6. Reset the fault. The fault will only be resettable if the system succeeded to add the loop unit.

Deleting a loop unit from the fault list

1. Open the fault list: Menu/ 1 Fault alarms/ 1 Fault list 2. Select the detector to delete from the list. Loop Units

generating fault no 128 (no answer) can be erased from the systems configuration.

3. Press 0=Erase Loop Unit from configuration. The configuration file is now updated in the RAM memory.

4. Reset the fault. The fault will only be resettable if the system succeeded in adding the loop unit.

Chapter 5: Replacing battery When replacing the batteries, make sure to use batteries with the same specification as the original. System is tested and approved according to EN 54-2 and EN 54-4 with two Yuasa 2.3 Ah type NP-12 batteries connected in series. The maximum current draw from the battery is 2.5A and it is fused to 4A. The maximum internal battery circuitry resistance is 0.47 Ohm. Instruction

1. Remove both battery fuses at the rectifier board. See Appendix A for fuse locations.

2. Remove the battery cables from the battery. 3. Exchange the battery. 4. Verify the correct polarity and connect the battery

cables to the new battery. 5. Verify that the voltage is approx. 24VDC at the

battery terminals on the rectifier board. 6. Reinsert the battery fuses. 7. Reset the battery fault at the control unit.

Chapter 6: Software Configuration program The CS4000 central is delivered pre-programmed with a standard configuration file. See the separate manual CS4000 Configuration program manual for information on how to create and update a configuration file. To upload a configuration file from CS4000 When you want to view or make changes in an existing configuration file you can get it from the CS4000 central. The configuration file can be uploaded in two ways:

Direct to PC via USB cable To Salwico Memory StickTM

(the system must be equipped with an USB Expansion Board)

Upload configuration file to a PC 1. Connect a PC via an USB cable to the USB

port on the Base Board (not the USB Expansion Board, if present).

2. The CS4000 will now present itself as an extra “drive” in your PC. Open the extra drive.

3. You will find a file with the file extension “.c4d”, which is the configuration file used by the CS4000 system. Example of file name: SG12345.C4D

4. Copy the “.c4d” file to your local disc before working with it.

1. Connect the Salwico Memory StickTM to one of the

USB ports on the USB expansion board (piggyback board located on the BaseBoard).

2. Choose Menu/ 6 Service/ 8 upload config to Memory Stick

3. Choose the current “.c4d” configuration file from the list and press OK.

4. The system will now upload the configuration file. 5. When the upload is complete, disconnect the Salwico

Memory StickTM and copy the configuration file to a PC.

To download a configuration file to CS4000 When the configuration file is finished it is time to download it to the CS4000 system. The configuration file must have the file extension “.c4d”. If only supplementary texts has been updated in the “.c4d” file it is possible download them separately, see below instructions. The configuration file can be downloaded in two ways:

Direct from PC via USB cable From Salwico Memory StickTM

(the system must be equipped with an USB Expansion Board)

Note: Make sure to work with the latest “.c4d” file when making changes. The latest “.c4d” file may be uploaded from the CS4000 system, see instruction above. In Base Board software versions before 1.0.18 the definition file must be named “current.c4d”

Download configuration file from a PC 1. Connect a PC via an USB cable to the USB port on

the Base Board (not the USB Expansion Board, if present).

2. The CS4000 will now be displayed as an extra “drive” in your PC. Open the extra drive.

3. Change the file extension on the current configuration file to “.old” and save it as a back-up file.

4. Copy the new configuration file with the file extension “.c4d” from the PC to the extra drive.

5. When the file copy is completed, remove the USB cable from the Base Board.

6. Use the CS4000 control panel to update the system with the new configuration file by choosing: -Menu/ 6 Service menu/ 6 Reload Configuration/ 1 Load entire configuration or -Menu/ 6 Service menu/ 6 Reload Configuration/ 2 Load supplementary texts only

7. If 1 Load entire configuration is selected above, the Base Board will re-start and load the new configuration file. If 2 Load supplementary texts only are selected, the system will use the new texts without having to re-start. Any other changes made to the “.c4d” file will be ignored, but will come into effect the next time the system is re-started.

Update the base board software There are two flash memories in the base board:

flash1 containing bootloader and the software for the base board (flash1.img).

flash2 containing the definition file (current.c4d)

Update the software version in the base board Follow the below instructions to update the software version in the base board by using an USB cable.

1. Please note how the DIP switch on the base board (see figure below) is set, since this setting shall be restored after the update of the software.

2. Set the base board in “bootloader” mode by setting the DIP switch address to 0 (all switches in OFF position).

3. Reboot the base board with the reset button. LED1 will indicate that the base board is in “bootloader” mode by flashing light.

4. Connect the PC to the base board via an USB cable. The base board will appear in Windows Explorer as an extra USB drive.

5. Copy the new software file named “flash1.img” from the PC to the USB drive (drag & drop).

6. Close the extra USB drive in Windows Explorer. The base board will now start to download the new file into flash1. LED2 will indicate this by flashing light. The download process is finished when LED2 turns into steady light.

7. Restore the original address on the DIP switch. 8. Reset the base board with the reset button. The base

board will now re-start, using the new updated software.

Possible errors during update of base board Error LED1 do not flash after reboot when the DIP switch on the base board is set to 0. Cause The base board is defect. Error LED2 is on before flash1.img has been downloaded. Cause Under certain circumstances (i.e. remove and reattach USB cable during bootloader operation) may cause the bootloader routine to malfunction. Re-boot the base board and retry the operation.

The Service menu is used for configuration of the system in the commissioning phase, as well as for troubleshooting and small updates when the system is in operation. The menu has functions for downloading and uploading information from/to the Salwico Memory Stick. The service menu screen displays a list of the 10 service menu alternatives, described on the following pages. The alternatives are reached by pressing the corresponding number on the numerical keypad, or by selecting the desired alternative with the arrow buttons and pressing the OK button.

6 Reload Configuration The screen is used when a new updated configuration file or supplementary text file has been downloaded to the CS4000 system.

Reload configuration screen - Press 1 to reload the entire configuration. The system will re-start and then use the new configuration file. - Press 2 to update the supplementary text files (no re-start needed). Before updating the texts, a new configuration file should be downloaded (see Service menu 7 Load config from Memory Stick). The file should be identical with the previous configuration file, except for the texts.

Note that the changes are not permanently saved in the configuration file until this command is performed. Appendix A: Fault codes & Fuses Fault list Listed below are all fault codes, their causes and how an operator with some knowledge of the system can solve the problem.

Appendix C: System modules The system modules are building blocks in the fire alarm system. The system can be designed according to customers needs. Description

The printed circuit board Panel Board, PB, is a system module in the Salwico CS4000 fire alarm system.

The Panel Board together with the alphanumerical display, keyboard, terminal board and a cabinet forms the control/repeater panel in the CS4000 system.

The Panel Board is equipped with some basic in- and outputs and a RS232 serial interface.

Description

The printed circuit board RB, Rectifier Board, is a system module in the Salwico CS4000 fire alarm system.

The Rectifier Board, together with the transformer, forms the power supply unit for the CS4000 central, including battery-charging function for the internal batteries.

There are three types of transformers available: 100VAC, 115/230VAC and 115/230VAC with an auto-reset thermal switch. For older revisions (R1A-D) an obsolete 115/230VAC transformer was used.

Note: Do not mix an old transformer with a new RB or vice versa! See Replacement below for information on how to replace old parts.

For more information about how to connect the different CS4000 system boards together, please refer to the CS4000 Service & Maintenance manual.

Replacement

Replacement kit 462005E1K should be used when an old RB or transformer (art. 462005 or 53052) needs to be replaced.

The rectifier board has an in-built change over function between the two 110/115/230VAC inputs (main and emergency). If there is only one 115/230VAC power supply available, it shall always be connected to “emergency”. Description

The BDP-1 KIT is an add-on circuit board required when the CS4000 shall fulfil the requirements of the Marine Equipment Directive (MED). The BDP-1 circuit board is installed on top of the RB rectifier board (HW version R1F and later), using the installation hardware provided with the kit. Electrically, the BDP-1 is installed in between the battery and the battery terminals of the RB board. Functions

A. Battery deep discharge protection. The BDP-1 will disconnect the CS4000 from the battery before the voltage has dropped to a level that may cause permanent damage to the battery, at approx. 18V. B. Resistance monitoring (RB SW 1.0.7 or higher) Circuitry that allows the total resistance of the battery circuit to be monitored (i.e. the resistance of the battery cables and their connections, as well as the internal resistance of the battery)

Description

The printed circuit board SETH1 is a system module in the Salwico CS4000 fire alarm system.

SETH1 adds an Ethernet port to the CS4000 system. This gives possibilities such as network connection and remote maintenance.

SETH1 is fitted directly on the CS4000 baseboard as a piggyback, see picture below.

For more information about how to connect the different CS4000 system boards together, please refer to the CS4000 Service & Maintenance manual.

CS4000 system boards USB expansion board SPX

Description

The SPX board is developed to add extra communication channels to a CS4000 system:

• 2 x USB master ports

• 2 x RS232/485 serial ports

The SPX board is fitted as a piggyback on top of the CS4000 baseboard.

If the RS232/485 serial ports shall be used, then a FLK20 terminal board is connected via a 20 pole flat cable. The FLK20 terminal board is rail mounted.

Description

The printed circuit board MB, MUX Board, is a system module in the Salwico CS4000 fire alarm system.

The MUX Board is a multiplexer with 254 outputs. The multiplex function can for example be used for mimics etc.
