R/Principal’s Report

Welcome to Week 5. Well done to all of our athletes who competed at the District Athletics Carnival last Friday! FPS were the overall winning school on the day. Well done to Sophie and Sienna on their record breaking efforts on Friday. Those students who will move on to the Riverina Carnival will be notified soon. A huge thank you to all of our parents who helped out in so many ways on Friday. Congratulations to Charlotte on her excellent participation at the Zone Final of the Lions Club Public Speaking Competition yesterday. It can be

very daunting to stand up in front of an audience full of unfamiliar faces and speak for 3 minutes but Charlotte did an excellent job! While she doesn’t move on to the next level of competition, Charlotte can be very proud of herself for representing Finley Public School so well! We have another jam-packed week ahead with a variety of extra-curricular activities for our students! Tournament of the Minds Our TOMs teams are busy with final preparations before they go to Shepparton on Saturday to compete in the Regional Tournament of the Minds Competition. As part of their preparations, on Wednesday, they will go to the High School with Mrs Haynes, to work with the FHS TOMs teams as a final step before competing. We wish Alanna, Anneliesse, Cassidy, Cate, Jacob, Larshya, Lenny, Liam, Lucy A, Lucy B, Morgan, Olivia, Ruby and Stephanie all the very best on Saturday. Stage 3 Excursion The Stage 3 Excursion to Ballarat is only one week away now. Miss Willis and Mr Brooks have been very busy preparing the itinerary and have scheduled a terrific range of activities that will bring our Stage 3 students a deeper level of understanding and knowledge about the Gold Rush Era. As Mr and Mrs Brooks are expecting their new baby very soon, Mr Brooks won’t be attending the Excursion. Instead Miss Ackers will go in his place and Mr Brooks will work with 4/3A next week. Other staff attending the excursion will be Miss Willis, Mrs Haynes and myself. External Validation Our school is currently undergoing the Department of Education’s External Validation process which will culminate in a panel meeting on September 1st, 2016. We have been very busy reflecting on our current programs and practices in the school, determining where we are on the School Excellence Framework and gathering evidence to support our belief. While the process is time consuming, it is an excellent way for us to reflect on what we are doing, where we are currently and determine where we need to be heading and to align this with the three strategic directions in our school plan. Have a wonderful week! Amanda Lyons (Rel. Principal)

The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. You may remember that our Year 4 - 6 students participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 29th August and 21st October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form is being sent home with students this week. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by August 29th. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from the website above.

The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at home or on public computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 22nd August and 21st October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary however, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents Please find FAQ sheets about the Student Survey and the Parents Survey included in this newsletter. Amanda Lyons.

P & C News The P&C ladies afternoon was held

yesterday. A lovely afternoon was had by all, with lots of very yummy food, raffles,

prizes and most of all ladies enjoying some time together.

Thank you very much to the hard working P&C Committee and the wider community for everything they have done to make this

a success.

Next P&C meeting is Monday the 22nd August at 7pm in the School Staff room.

What is a P&C?

The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is a group of community-minded people, parents and citizens, who take on a more

formal role to assist the school by providing:

•feedback on school policies and activities

•additional resources to be used to

enhance student learning

•parents with opportunities to be involved in their child’s education.

Research has shown that parent

involvement in a child’s education makes a significant contribution to the child’s

success at school.

Friday –Check & Treat
