Introduction
Definition of Biometrics:
“Automated methods of recognizing a person based on a physiological or behavioral characteristics”.
“ The technology used for identification of a user based on a physical or behavioral characteristic, such as a fingerprint, iris, face, voice or handwriting is called Biometrics”.
What Is a Fingerprint?
The skin on our fingers are made up of many ridges of skin that are created when we are still in our mother’s womb. They remain the same for the rest of our lives, even surviving injury if not too severe. Each of the ridges connect to other ridges, forming a pattern that is unique to all others. No two people in the world have exactly the same print. This uniqueness is used in many forensic cases to solve crimes, as some of the most common evidence found at a crime scene are fingerprints.

HistorySir Francis galton defined somes of the points Or
characteristics from which fingerprints can identified in Nineteenth century.
Galton points reffered to as minutaie. In 1969 federal bureau of investigation (FBI) to Develop a
system to automate its pringerprints identificationThe FBI contracted the National Bureau of standard(NBS)National institute of standards and Technology(NIST)The widespread use of fingerprinting in criminal
investigation traces its roots back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) repository, which contains about 45 million fingerprint records, was started in the mid-1920s.

Common mistakes
Problems in Fingerprint Acquisition
• Noise in image of fingerprint• Noise due to hardware of acquisition device• Pressing More Forcefully , it might be overlap two ridges• Lightly Pressing Finger , Full Image will Not capture
Fingerprint Applications Access control• to devices • cellular phones• logging into a computer, laptop, or PDA• cars• guns• to local services• debitting money from a cash dispenser • logging in to computer• accessing data on smartcard • to remote services • e-commerce• e-businessPhysical access control • to high security areas• to public buildings or areasTime & attendance control Identification• forensic person investigation• social services applications, e.g. immigration or prevention of welfare fraud• personal documents, e.g. electronic drivers license or ID card
Conclusion
“FINGER PRINT BASED SECURITY SYSTEM” is used to provide security and authentication
Project deals with Microcontroller as central controlling units for various other sections like Biometrics, LCD etc.
Interfacing between all sections required for system and microcontroller 89S52 has been done successfully
When a new person who is not register with the system try to have access, system refuses access and displays message “Unidentified FP”
Person who is registered with the system can get access through doors according to their designation
Future Scope
“FINGER PRINT BASED SECURITY SYSTEM” is most widely used for security purposes. This project is depend on the biometrics i.e fingerprint
It is very easy to implement because Each person has his own fingerprints with the permanent uniqueness
Compare to normal security system it is better and in this we can further to implement in every office that module contains total information of employees
In future this system is used to provide security and authentication for an organization using finger prints as forgery of that is not possible
