PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE cont’d

Hello, my name is Lorraine Camilleri and I have been working at Findon Primary School for almost 20 years. Over the past 8 years. I’ve been working in the LANGUAGE SUPPORT PROGRAM area, which I LOVE SO MUCH. I am a very passionate person and I take pride in what I do. It is so rewarding watching the children achieve their goals, and seeing their smiling faces. Outside Findon, my family is very important to me, my husband George and my son Ryan are my pride and

joy. I also have a cat named Abbey. I enjoy cooking ( especially sweets) and reading, and most important

taking care of my family.

Hi, my name is Alina Dickins and this is my 10th year working at Findon Primary. I run the Language Support Program for the Junior School under the direction of Ruth, our Speech Therapist. It’s a wonderful program and I love working with the students one on one and seeing the great progress that they make in their grammar, auditory memory, vocabulary and phonological awareness. I also work in the classroom helping students reach their potential. When I’m not working I’m spending time with my husband Grant, my 2 children, Michael and Natalie and our little dog Roger. I enjoy hiking, reading, gardening and especially travelling. Feel free to knock on my door and say Hi!

Hi everyone, my name is Ben Cloney and I'm a new addition to the Findon family. I am an Educational Support trainee, here to learn as much as I can about helping children with their learning. While I'm not at work I love to play and watch sport. I play for the Victorian Paralympic soccer squad, and I will take any opportunity I can get to see some footy or cricket at the 'G’ (that's me on the left). I love to laugh and to make others laugh, and I am always trying to experience new things. I love my work here and I cannot wait to see what other wonderful things Findon has in store!

Hi I am Shelley. I am a registered nurse, I worked many years in the public health system, then 7 years ago I had a career change to work as school nurse/ librarian at Findon. My role here is varied and keeps me on my toes. I am a mum of 14 year old twins boys and an 11 year old daughter , I have been married 17 years this September and we have an old cat named Charlie. We are so lucky to have a friend who is a pilot, in this photo we have just been flying over the Yarra Valley in that very small plane. Soooo much fun.

I leave you with the following words to ponder

‘Grandparents bestow upon their grandchildren, the strength and wisdom that time and experience has given them. Grandchildren bless their Grandparents with a youthful vitality and innocence that helps them stay young at heart forever. Together they create a chain of love linking the past with the future. The chain may lengthen, but it will never part!

Have a happy and safe holiday break and Easter

Paula Cosgrave Principal

Earth Hour at Findon

Last Friday, Findon Primary School participated in the global event known as Earth Hour. Our students were encouraged to ‘switch off’ and think about actions they can take to make a better future for our planet. The students in Learning Team 3 were engaged in a very interesting lesson about the gases that make up our atmosphere. They learnt that whilst 99% of the Earth’s atmosphere is nitrogen (78%) and Oxygen (21%), the remaining 1% are the so called ‘Greenhouse’ gases that trap the sun’s energy. As we have increased the amount of greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, we have also warmed the planet. Students were shown that these gas molecules (water vapour, carbon dioxide and methane) are made up of more atoms, and hence when they moved around they create more warmth. Students were asked to think of different actions they could take to make a change and here is what they said:

We could switch of the lights and TV when we leave the room We could compost our food scraps (or use the bucket exchange

program at Findon) We could walk or ride to school instead of driving We could plant more trees We could have our vegie gardens at home We could eat less meat and eat more vegetables We could dry our clothes on the line instead of using a clothes dryer Thanks to everyone who participated in Earth Hour at Findon. We hope we can make a difference.
