Ecommerce has had a profound impact on the retail landscape over the last two decades, through its ability to replicate and enhance the traditional shopping experience over the internet. More recently, companies like LivingSocial are once again reshaping the consumer buying experience through their efforts to bridge the divide between online and offline commerce using social and mobile technologies. “FP&A Challenges and Solutions at LivingSocial” will explore some of the unique challenges in building a robust, flexible planning process at the company given its unique business model and the highly competitive environment in which it operates.

Forecasting Amidst a Rapidly Evolving Online Retail Landscape

All companies’ revenues are affected by the strength – or weakness – of the national economy. Consumers change their spending plans depending on how confident they are of the future. However, in the rapidly evolving online retail space, accurately forecasting revenues 6-12 months out becomes even more challenging as new competitors consistently plan on entering the online market niche your company occupies, disruptive business models such as mobile emerge, or existing customers may threaten to vertically integrate and directly compete with your site. In an online world that continues to quickly change and shape the way people shop, the accuracy and reliability of a forecast is increasingly more susceptible to this evolving landscape. As such, understanding the competitive landscape will become increasingly more critical for the finance professional.

Modernize Finance and Escape from Excel Hell

Are you stuck in Excel hell just trying to collect the budget or forecast numbers? Are your review meetings with managers more about finger pointing than taking ownership of the numbers and results? Is there just no time to focus on the analysis that produces insights that matter? Many organizations are turning to the Cloud as a way to automate and accelerate key financial processes without the cost, complexity, and long deployments typical of legacy on-premises budgeting applications. The Evolution of the FP&A Role Amidst Data Abundance and Volatility – Transforming Data into Actionable Strategies

Financial Planning and Analysis teams face new and more complex challenges. Albeit data is becoming more abundant, discerning and understanding data continues to be a great challenge for professionals in this field. It becomes increasingly difficult to discern usable and value-added data amidst the inflow of information we are able to obtain through modern systems. We are no longer challenged by data availability but by being able to understand and transform data into usable knowledge to create impactful strategies for the organization. This is increasingly difficult with organizations striving to overcome the effect the economic downturn and multiple strategies being implemented in the market.
