DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WORK

PLANNER FOR STAFF SCHEDULING

CASE STUDY: RDB/IT

Overview

This research project was carried out in the area of

Information Technology (IT), based on RDB/IT organization.

The said system will be used by three categories of users such

as :

� Administrator empowered to maintain the overall Work

planner system;

� Team Leader acts as spokesperson and main responsible

user; and

� Team Member to perform or implement given activities.



Problem Statement

The lack of efficient and effective means of planning and

management in an organization is a critical challenge in working

environments.

This can lead to some problems :

� Delay of staffs to meet the deadline of assigned activities

� Struggle to identify progress of ongoing activities.

In order to deliver better quality and timely results across the

organization, work performance need to be enhanced by modern

tools and technologies.



Objectives of the Project

� General Objective:

o To provide an effective way of planning, management

and tracking activities· schedules

� Specific Objectives:

o To provide the administrator and team leader with

the ability to assign activities to team members;

o To ensure the ability for managers to control

activities;

o To enable easy collaboration.



Project Hypothesis

´The use of a work planner for staff scheduling will

improve the efficiency and effectiveness of an

organization by providing its staff with an easy way of

collaborating toward a common goal to optimize

successful delivery.µ



Scope of the ProjectThis research project is focused on the design and

implementation of a web based work planner for staff

scheduling that will permit:

� Assignment of activities to team members;

� Tracking the progress of assigned activities

o To improve our knowledge in IT;

o To develop professional aptitude for our future career.

o To develop an efficient and effective system to plan,

manage and track activities· progress of RDB/IT·s staff.

Tools Used

We have used the combination of the following tools:

� ASP.NET 3.5 in C# 3.0 as the web development framework

� Microsoft SQL Server 2005 as the database management

system

� ADO.NET as the model for interacting with the database

� IIS as the web server

Hardware equipment used:

� 3.2 Ghz of processor speed

� 1Gb of RAM

� 80 Gb of Hard disk space

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

� Conclusion: The web based Work Planner can successfully:

oTo provide the ability for the administrator and the team

oTo ensure the ability for managers to control activities;

oTo enable an easy collaboration.

� R ecommendations: For further work, we are suggesting to

enhance this software adding lacking modules such as:

o Evaluation process to assess staffs commitment

o Establish a way of sending reports through e-mails
