2. IntroductionMy overall experience was good. It was unlike any other work experience that Ihave ever had. In the beginning it took some time to get used to working with thesame four people every day.My Desk 3. Personal GoalsPrior to starting my internship, I had made it a personal goal of mine tolearn as much as possible about Specialty Coffee trade shows, as this is thevery niche market that I would like to work in someday.I also wanted to see how this organization compared to other SpecialtyCoffee events that I have done in the past. Finally, I wanted to see how my education and experience combined wouldhelp me in order to have a gauge of how I would do in the real job market. 4. Organizational OverviewCoffee Fest started in 1992 in Seattle and grew to produce specialtycoffee and tea tradeshows in 1998.Coffee Fest now puts on three shows a year, focusing each show in adifferent region. Each tradeshow has classes presented by industryprofessionals, and competitions in addition to the trade show itself. The competitions that are featured at each of the shows are: LatteArt Championship World Open, Americas Best Espresso andAmericas Best Coffeehouse. 5. Project Review ProcessA section of my daily/weekly RTTD(Random Things To Do)list. 7. NYC Tradeshow Entrance 8. Project Review ProcessMailing CardOne of the earliest projects that I was assigned and became an ongoingproject is to clean up the attendee database. For every show there aremailing cards that are sent out, and I would go through the cards thatcame back, check the names and addresses on the card and update theattendee database accordingly. This project started out as a focus and grew for me as a downtime task. 9. Project Review ProcessThe largest project that I worked on during my internship was creating the educationalprograms, confirming the presenters and then propagating the information to thewebsite. One of nine programmingsheets that I having beenworking on. 10. Project Review ProcessRegistration:After attendees would register I wasin charge of sending them aconfirmation email. This emailprovided the attendee withadditional information and reiteratedimportant information.AttendeeConfirmationEmailAttendees:I was also in charge of working with the attendees, answering anyquestions that they might have about registration and assisting themwith registration. In addition to assisting the attendees with registration, I also assisted theexhibitors and made any changes to their files that they needed. 11. Project Review ProcessRCS:The second largest project that I worked on throughout my internship wasworking with the registration subcontractor. I was in charge of making surethat the information was correct on our website and the registration portionof our site. 12. Professional Skills1) Work ethic/Professionalism: Events are difficult and take a lot of time toprepare. If someone does not have a solid work ethic a show will govery well. Professionalism is key because we as a company are the faceof the show and a representation to both the exhibitors and theattendees.2) Problem solving: The office runs very lean which can create a back uptrying to get things answered in a timely manner. Due to the amount ofattention for the show manager, I learned how to think like a showmanager and problem solve what I was working on while I waswaiting to have my questions answered. If I was working on formattingof something for the website or had questions about a companyscontact I would look for it first talk to anyone else in the office to see ifthey knew and if I didnt find it then I would talk to my supervisor.3) Communication: In preparing for a show, it is imperative tocommunicate. 13. Professional SkillsHaving a small team it is important to communicate. All staff members takepart in one project from sales to finance it takes us all to create a finishedproduct. One of our largest all staff pre show projects is the Exhibitor ShowManual (ESM) where everyone is involved from the selling of the booth tothe filing of the applications. 14. Personal ReflectionThe knowledge that I gained from my coursework allowed me to have abetter understanding as to WHY things were being done. I was moreaware of what was being done and an idea as to how it should be done, allowing me an opportunity to make educated suggestions. The knowledge that we gain at school never fully prepares us for thereal world experience. I learned things that could never be taught in theclassroom. If it were not for my coursework I feel that I would havebeen too far behind and it would have been very difficult for me to keepup once we started planning for the next show.
