Brief/Session/Document Title The Best Films of 2010-12 Brief Using iconography & info-graphics, describe at least 10 cinematic films of 2010-12. Categorise and order them in an A3 format that could be featured as a double page spread in the high-end movie magazine Empire, as well as separate collectable posters to be sold at entertainment stores such as HMV & Blockbusters. Background / Considerations What ratings did these films get? Use rottentomatoes.com as a guide for the quality of the movies involved. How many Oscars was it nominated for? How many did it win? How many tickets did the movie sell on the opening weekend? Who starred in the film? What genre does it fall under? What audience is it aimed at? What plotlines did the film take? Are there any clichéʼs the movie falls under? Consider the design style of Empire; will the spread fit in well with the magazine? Also, how will the design transfer over to poster design? Think of all the parameters possible to create a well informed, entertaining and aesthetically pleasing spread of design. Mandatory Requirements Deliverables Info-graphics and iconography

Brief/Session/Document Title Emotion & Type Brief Explore emotion in Typography by choosing at least 10 contrasting emotions from the list of 70, i.e. NOT anger and outrage – too similar. Create a set of typographic posters, that are suited for type exhibitions, and explore these emotions, using famous quotes to reflect on each one. They can be fictional, i.e, film or tv or from real people. Use the designs to explore printing processes, colours and stock to bring out the selected emotion in printed form. Background / Considerations Think about the message they are getting across, does the typography reflect this? What about the colours? Is it obvious where the quote came from? Think about the emotion and the typeface used to represent it. Is it bold, ultra light, a large point size or distorted to communicate an idea?

Mandatory Requirements Deliverables Type only – no imagery.

Brief/Session/Document Title Nordic Typeface Brief Create a Sans-Serif typeface, along with any variations, that reflect upon the ancient Nordic Futhark & Futhorc runic alphabet. The design will be used as a title, not for body copy. It must be a Latin-based alphabet, not a reproduction of the runic symbols. Use the final typeface to demonstrate 10 typographic posters promoting current Scandinavian culture. Background / Considerations Typeface design is delicate work. Explore existing typefaces and what makes them work. Pick apart and explore typographic methods and terminology before creating the final piece. Look at title typefaces in particular and analyse their structure and recurring styles.

Mandatory Requirements Deliverables Latin alphabet Title case friendly
