Installing To install, unzip the .zip file, then run KEWR_2.0_FSX_install.exe. Follow the instructions in the

installer program.

Activating the Scenery After you purchase and install the product, you will need to activate it in the FSX scenery library by following the instructions below.

1. Start FSX and go to the Settings tab.

4. Another window will open. Use the dropdown menu on top to navigate to your main FSX

folder. (Note: For Steam Edition, this is in \Steam\steamapps\common\). Then open the

Final Approach Simulations folder.

5. The folder will open with sub-folders. Select the sub-folder named “USA Airports KEWR” and press OK.

Starting Your Flight

Search for “KEWR” under airport ID. To start at a passenger terminal, choose any location prefixed with “GATE.” You will have the option to choose between terminals A, B, or C. To start at a general aviation parking, choose “N PARKING – RAMP GA.” To start inside a hangar, choose “DOCK.” When starting inside a hangar, your aircraft will be facing away from the entrance. You will have to pushback (SHIFT+P) or use slew mode to move out of the hangar.

Jetways

The jetways do not move but are positioned at the approximate height and door of the correct aircraft, with only a small gap in between. If you choose a heavy gate, the jetway will be raised to the height of a heavy aircraft (747, 767, 777, A330, etc.) If you choose medium gate, the jetway will be raised to the height of a medium aircraft, (737, 757, A320, etc.) A small gate is raised to the height of smaller aircraft, such as Embraer regional jets. Ensure you select an appropriate size gate for the aircraft you are flying.

Tower View

To see the view from inside the tower, right click in the simulator, hover over “Tower,” and click “Nearest Tower.” If you are further away from the airport, click “KEWR”. Once on this view, use the minus key to zoom out until you can see the inside of the building.

Parking Locations

A map of terminal parking positions, useful if you prefer to park at a specific place. If you selected to have static aircraft at the terminals during installation, note that a few of the listed parking spaces will not be available to choose.

Performance Tips

For best performance (FPS), we recommend using certain settings in the sim. Newark Liberty is a large and complex airport, so you may need to turn down some settings if you are not receiving satisfactory performance. In the Scenery tab of the settings page, make sure you have ground scenery shadows unchecked. Ground scenery shadows cause the largest loss in performance and are unnecessary because the scenery already has custom shadowing. Keep the water effects slider on low, unless you know your computer can handle it at a higher setting. Autogen should stay at Dense or lower. Under the Traffic tab, road vehicles should be no higher than 25%. Airport vehicle density should be set low, since a large number will drastically reduce performance. The scenery already comes with static ground vehicles which are friendlier on performance. If you use an addon AI traffic program for FSX, you may need to lower the amount of traffic when flying from Newark and the New York City Airspace in general.

Example settings for Ultimate Traffic 2 from Flight 1.

Additional Features

Static Aircraft

The static aircraft are non-animated, stationary aircraft parked around the airport. They do not block any taxiways, runways, or aprons. Depending on the settings you chose during installation, you may have static aircraft at the terminals or only at remote stands and cargo facilities.

Changing the Static Aircraft

There are five different varieties of static aircraft parking. Changing the varieties will switch around the airlines and aircraft parked at certain gates, while still staying true to airline parking assignments. This is useful if you prefer not to see the same aircraft in the same parking locations every time. For example, in one configuration an Air China 787 is parked at gate B54. In another, a TAP Air Portugal A330 is there instead. To change the aircraft varieties, open the KEWR FSX folder in your start menu, and click on “Enable or Change Static Aircraft.” Make sure Flight Simulator X is closed. In the dialogue box, type “1,” and press enter. When you fly from the airport again, you will notice different aircraft. Note that some of the aircraft at Terminal A will not change, because there is not much variety in the airlines and aircraft operated there.

Note: These steps may not work if you have FSX installed to your C drive Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders, because Windows will deny permission. If so, you will need to change the static aircraft manually. To do so, close FSX and navigate to the \Final Approach Simulations\USA Airports KEWR\Scenery directory within your main FSX folder. Find the file static_aircraft_placement.bgl and move it to the Static Aircraft Placement folder. Then, open the Static Aircraft Placement folder, choose any of the other four files and move that file back to the Scenery folder. Each file in the Static Aircraft Placement folder is a different variety, so feel free to use whichever one. Make sure you only have one of those files in the root Scenery folder, as multiple will cause duplicate aircraft on top of each other at the airport.

Removing the Static Aircraft

You can remove the static aircraft by going to the KEWR FSX folder in your start menu and clicking on “Remove static aircraft.” Make sure FSX is closed first. Type “yes” in the dialogue box and press enter. When you fly from the airport again, the static aircraft will be removed.

If you have FSX installed to your C drive Program Files or Program Files (x86) folder, you may need to do it manually. Navigate to the \Final Approach Simulations\USA

Airports KEWR\Scenery directory within your main FSX folder and move the Static_aircraft_placementx.bgl file to the Static Aircraft Placement folder, then restart FSX.

To undo static aircraft removal, use the Add or Change Static Aircraft tool from the KEWR FSX folder in the start menu (or move the bgl file back to the Scenery folder if FSX is installed in Program Files or Program Files (x86)).

Edge Grass

The airport has 3D grass placed at the edges of taxiways and aprons. To remove it for the winter, close FSX, and click on “Add or remove grass” in the KEWR FSX folder in your start menu. Type “1,” in the dialogue box and press enter. When you restart FSX, the grass will be gone. To re-enable after it has been removed, follow the same steps. Like static aircraft, these steps might not work if you have FSX installed to your C drive Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders. To remove the grass manually, close FSX and navigate to the \Final Approach Simulations\USA Airports KEWR\Scenery directory within your main FSX folder. Find the file KEWR grass.bgl and move it to the Unused folder. To undo this,

simply move the KEWR grass.bgl file back to its original location.

Kearny Heliport

The scenery comes with Kearny Heliport (65NJ) located 3.6NM from the center of Newark Airport, next to the first bridge travelling north up the Passaic River. Since it is a heliport, you can only fly in using a helicopter. To start off there, type “65NJ” in the airport ID box, and choose one of the six starting locations. If you change the configuration of static aircraft at Newark, it will also change the helicopters at Kearny.
