Ini:a:ve – to support the talent of Jamaican filmmakers, and garner interna:onal exposure for Jamaican culture through film. • 5 new Jamaican short films were selected through a blind process to be produced
this summer, and will be shown at the Trinidad and Tobago Film FesHval in Sept • The filmmakers underwent bootcamps on scriptwriHng, direcHng, pitching, fesHval
strategy and deal-‐making The five projects are “Origins” (Kurt Wright and Noelle Kerr), “Shock Value” (Adrian Lopez), “Shoot the Girl” (Tony Hendricks and Natalie Thompson), “Sugar” (Laurie Parker, Sharon Leach, Michelle Serieux), and “The Silent Ones” (Gregory Lopez and Janet Morrison)
“Origins”
Synopsis: A hero from Jamaica’s past is pulled from “The Keep”, a realm of myth and legend, to defeat an evil witch who has escaped the confines of her own story. A character driven, supernatural fantasy steeped in Jamaican folklore, set in modern Hmes, with a TaranHno’esque visual style.

Synopsis: A young black Jamaican girl from the underclass and on the brink of womanhood works at a Jamaican resort where she witnesses tourists’ affluence on a daily basis. As the de facto breadwinner for her very large family, she faces a crisis of conscience when a tourist couple seems to be the answer to her financial predicament.

“Sugar”
“The Silent Ones” Synopsis: A Jamaican schoolgirl from a rural town is abducted by two men in a taxi on her way home from school with a friend. A businessman whose car has broken down and a roadside vendor witness two separate moments of the abducHon. The film explores the thought processes of these two witnesses as the crime happens and the terrible consequences of their acHons.
