Dear Elm class, Here is your learning for the week. I have been really lucky to see some your work that has been sent to me and it all looks wonderful. Please choose the activities that you find most suitable for your learning. I know many people have been baking and gardening as well as doing lots of arts and crafts. Please do not stress about getting evert activity completed, we do not want the activities below to become a source of extra stress for you. The most important jobs to prioritise are reading, writing and the white rose maths. I am still always available by email if you have any questions or would like to show me some of the work you have doing. Please remember that you need to be reading daily. Big Question: Do you think Edith Cavell/ Mary Seacole/Florence Nightingale were real life superheroes?

Mild – Imagine you are Edith Cavell working during the war and create a verbal diary entry. Record your voice using phone or ipad and talk about what you might have done that day, how you are feeling and what you are looking forward to after the war.Chilli – Imagine you are Edith Cavell and write a diary entry about one day during the war. Talk about what she might have got up to one day, how she is feeling and what she is looking forward to after the war.

Spelling and GrammarThis week’s focus is words with the ‘wh’ sound:

When, what, whistle, white, whereWrite out the words and add sound buttons.Use each word in a sentence.Practice spelling each word by writing them out. You could write them in sand with a stick, paint them, use your finger in a tray of flour/rice/shave foam etc.

Count up how many real words and nonsense words there are. Colour the nonsense words a different colour to the real words.

Finish the words.

Correct the spelling of each word.

Mild – Write a list of adjectives (describing words) for your character

Medium – Use adjectives to write sentences about your character. E.g. Supertato is very round. He looks silly and smells funny.

Chilli – Write a description of your Supertato man and write a story about what adventures your Supertato might get up to.

Use a coloured pencil to edit your work. Have you missed any full stops or capital letters? Have you made any spelling mistakes? Could you add any extra describing words?

Challenge:Practice finding halves and quarters.

Mild: Cut out some shapes from paper or fabric. Fold them into equal parts to show quarters and halves.

Medium: Use counter/sweets/marbles etc to find half and a quarter of different numbers.

Chilli: Use counter/sweets/marbles etc to find halves, quarters, thirds, eighths of different numbers. Can all numbers be split into thirds? Explain why/why not.
