Hello, Thank you for your generous response to our ‘2.6 Challenge’. Your warm-hearted kindness has raised over £1700, which is fantastic. With Gift Aid, this makes an enormous difference to what Etatu is able to do in Msambweni. Fifty-five people took part, in California, Quebec, British Columbia, Queensland, Baden-Württemberg, Andalusia, Maharastra and twelve different counties in England. Individuals cycled, took their dog for a ramble in a bluebell wood, walked long distances, traipsed up and down stairs or round and round the garden, skipped for many, many minutes and gave each other haircuts - on a 2.6 razor setting, of course. Thank you to everyone for your involvement. Virginia made 29 masks in 18 hours for the challenge and went on to make 21 more! Thank you to everyone who bought masks and donated in response to her wonderfully imaginative enterprise. As a result of your kindness, we will now be able to provide fortnightly food distributions to 130 families up until the end of July, including a special distribution at Eid. Etatu’s food pack contains maize flour, wheat flour, rice, sugar and cooking oil. At Eid, we will add milk and washing powder. Moslem families will also receive some dates, as dates are a traditional treat or snack for Iftar and the Eid meal.

In Msambweni, the Etatu team has been working hard to buy, sort, distribute and deliver the first of the food distributions. On Sunday, the MOP children and One to One sponsored secondary pupils came to the banda to collect their food packages.

On Monday, the other 80 packages were distributed. The families living nearby came to the banda, while the food was delivered to those living further away. The five families who live beyond the permitted zone of movement are being sent money by mpesa. We will also provide each family with two masks; mask-wearing has recently been made compulsory by the government.

The Etatu Team is Bakari, Alfan, Masika and Ali helped by Mr. Dzengo and Mr. Mlonda, two teachers whom we support at Msambweni Primary School. The school is currently closed. Thank you again for your part in helping people to cope with the hardships of the Covid-19 lockdown. Your response is humbling and I am truly grateful.
