President’s Signals
November 2015
Hello Everyone!
The end of the year is almost upon us. We are coming to the end of the car
show season. October has been a very busy month!
Starting with Vette Fest in Gatlinburg, TN. A large group of Corvette owners
from all over the area traveled to Tennessee for a car show, site seeing and
the Tail of the Dragon. They had to deal with bad weather and other
problems along the way, but everyone that I spoke with loved the
experience. I would like to thank Karen Bedell and Felix Famularo for
planning and leading the trip! Be sure to read Felix’s article in this
newsletter!
Next came GNOCC’s Extravetteganza. I was registered, but unable to
attend. This show just keeps growing! Many of our members attended and
received awards. I haven’t seen the final results, but I heard that there
were 255 cars registered! Cajun Country provided a great venue, but at
their current rate of growth GNOCC will be looking for a larger venue
before long.
Halloween brought two car shows, We had members attending both
shows. Vettes By The Shore, put on by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Corvette
Club, saw the debut of Bill Folse’s Callaway Twin Turbo and he won “Best in
Class” for his efforts! We also had members at the Bayou State Car Corvette
Club car show in Scott, but I’ve had no report on the experience.
Looking forward we have three major events coming up. The first is the
Hanger Party at Charlie & Melody Horton’s. There will be a short Board
meeting followed by at time of fellowship and food. The menu this year
includes salads, entrees and side items provided by Zea’s Rotisserie Grill.
The club will provide drinks. If you are able please consider bringing a
desert. Directions are on pages 7 & 8.
The second event is the North Shore Corvette Club’s “Vettes Giving Back”
Car show on Saturday, November 21st. I have registered and reserved a
room at the Holiday Inn host hotel for Friday night. I will be driving to
Gulfport Friday afternoon. If anyone else is leaving on Friday let me know
and we can caravan.
Our last event is our Christmas Party. Elisha & I will host this year. Join us
for food, fun & fellowship . See page 21 for information.
Please don’t forget to renew your membership & register for our 2016 Car
show. Both forms are at the end of this newsletter.
Wave at ‘em. Wave even if they don’t wave back. They might not know any
better.

What's In Your Museum? Messner Legacy Found Throughout
Email ThisBlogThis!Share to TwitterShare to FacebookShare to Pinterest
The National Corvette Museum is home to many special vehicles - from mint classics, to one-of-a-kind
prototypes, much-loved special editions, race cars and more. While the Museum now owns nearly 70
Corvettes (with all but one donated), a good portion of the display cars are also on loan from private
individuals and General Motors. Cars are constantly shuffled and swapped, so no two visits to this
Corvette mecca are the same.
In 2013 the Museum was gifted its largest donation to date - a collection of ten Corvettes, from the late
Don Messner and his wife Marlene. The pristine set contains many collector and special editions, low
mileage and stunning examples of America's Sports Car. The carefully assembled collection were Don's
pride and joy, and were left to the Museum upon his passing with the hope that they would inspire
others to do the same.
"He said he wanted to plant a seed," wife Marlene said. "He wanted others in similar situations with rare
Corvettes to see the Museum as a place for them. Most of all, he wanted to inspire future generations
to work hard to buy their own Corvettes some day so that they, too, could enjoy the lifestyle that goes
with owning them."
In 2014 all ten came together for a special display in the Museum's Exhibit Hall, and today - you can see
five of them on the floor throughout the Museum while the other five remain behind the scenes,
awaiting the next opportunity to return to the spotlight. Each of the cars has a great story - so we hope
you enjoy reading about those you can see on your next visit!
1965 Custom Built Race Corvette (currently on display in our lobby turntable)
This Corvette bears a paint color similar to Cyber Gray and is not a standard 1965 exterior color, but
does it turn heads! The car features a complete wide body kit, roll cage, period correct exhaust,
custom built big block by Lingenfelter, custom chassis, custom sheet metal intake, Recaro race seats
with harnesses, aluminum radiator and 5-speed transmission.
Page 3
1967 427 Convertible (currently on display in the Dealership)
The Marina Blue beauty was the 2nd most popular color for 1967 and features a stinger stripe on the
hood. It is optioned with a 390hp V8 turbojet engine, positraction rear axle, whitewall tires, side dual
exhaust, AM/FM radio, softray tinted glass, white convertible top, 4-speed close ratio manual
transmission and white and bright blue vinyl interior. It was produced in St. Louis on June 1, 1967 and
sold by Penske-McKean Chevrolet of Philadelphia for $3,995.95. Don purchased the car April, 2012 and
joined the NCRS, replacing a few parts on the car that had deteriorated while keeping the car period
correct.
1996 Grand Sport (currently on display in the Skydome)
This model of Corvette is listed as one of the "10 most valuable Corvettes" by CNN Money because it was
"available for one year only, was almost as fast [as the high performance ZR-1], easier to work on and is
actually worth a good bit more."
1996 Collectors Edition (currently on display in the Skydome)
This car was manufactured December 6, 1995 in Bowling Green with option RPO Z15 ("Collector
Edition"), making it a Sebring Silver Corvette with special trim. The May 1996 edition of Motor Trend
magazine touted the car "a keeper and is likely one of the best all-around Corvettes ever hatched out
of the Bowling Green, KY plant."
2012 60th Anniversary 427 Convertible (currently on display in the Skydome)
The 2013 model marked Corvette's 60th year, and was the final year for the sixth generation of
Corvette. This special package was offered for all models for 2013, and the 427 Convertible combined
the convertible with Z06 elements, including its 505hp, 427ci LS7 engine with dry sump, but retained
the convertible's steel frame structure.
Don's story is a special one that's we've put together as part of a new Heritage Series. We hope you
enjoy it as much as we do!

Suspect in Corvette Road Rage Shooting Captured By Detroit Steel - October 30, 2015
0 Comments
Great news, folks. Remember that idiot Mustang driver who shot a female Corvette
owner on a freeway after she waved for the Mustang to pass her?
Well, police have apprehended the suspect in the alleged road rage incident, and
apparently he’s no stranger to crime.
According to a GM Authority report, the convicted felon has a pretty lengthy rap
sheet and was actually caught after being involved in an auto theft case completely
unrelated to the Corvette shooting.
In the road rage incident, the suspect faces charges for two counts of aggravated
assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“We’re all much safer now, because he’s in custody,” said Police Captain Paul
Braun. The local law enforcement official also had a bit of advice for the rest of us,
given the recent rise in road rage incidents.
“Try not use any type of hand gestures…even though you may be waving, someone
else may interpret that differently,” he said.
Unfortunately, the victim, Angelina Christiano, is still in the hospital recovering
from gunshot wounds in her upper back. Let’s all keep Angelina in our thoughts
while wishing her a speedy recovery

Camp Granada
We really did have fun when it stopped raining
We departed New Orleans and met the northshore and Baton Rouge group at the Mississippi Welcome
Center on I-59 in Picayune. After a pit stop and event “T” shirt distribution, 30 Corvettes “roared” up
I-59, working hard to stay up with our new leader. A new place to eat lunch, The Checker Board, in
Meridian proved to be a superb buffet. Notes were taken to eat there again.
“Roaring” up I-59 again, after a couple of pit stops and road changes, half of us broke off at
Chattanooga and rested for the night. The other half continued on to Gatlinburg via the northern route
and I understand they had fun on I-40 in the rain. We walked a block in the misting rain to dinner and
back to the Chattanooga Choo Choo.
From then on, it was “Camp Granada”. We left Chattanooga in a downpour and it rained on and off until
Saturday night. Remember. The car show was Saturday. I’ve been to car shows when there was a little
shower, wiped the cars clean and “on with the show”. This was a little different. Rain was steady all
day. We judged the amount of wax on a Corvette by the size of the beads of water. No engine judging.
No trunk judging. Judged the interior through the rain drops on the windows. Oh! The wheels could be
judged…. LOL. “The Show Must Go On”. In the judges meeting, a new phrase was born. We could judge
“Pride of Ownership”. I like that. It made the difference.
I felt sorry for the East Tennessee Corvette Club. Those guys and gals put on a hell of a show
considering what they had to deal with. When we arrived late Friday afternoon, the parking staff was
working “in the rain” and they worked “in the rain” Saturday morning. We judged in teams of two, one
keeping score on the judging sheet and the other holding the umbrella. The evening activities, party, and
dancing, Friday and awards presentation and more dancing on Saturday, were inside. It was still raining
outside though…. LOL.
Sunday morning we awoke to a cloudy sky, but HALLALOULA – NO RAIN! Off we went to Bridal Vail
Falls for a photo op and mountain road drive. As the roads were wet, we picked up what looked like hay
in our wheel wells. What a mess. After lunch the clouds began to break and a couple of times I think I
saw a little piece of blue sky. Checked my glasses. Couldn’t believe it. Dinner at “Dixie Stampede”
consisted of a whole chicken – think it was a pigeon – after all, we were at Pigeon Forge, a slice of pork
roast, corn on the cob, creamed potatoes, and soup. Hope you brought your own utensils, ‘cause they
don’t provide any. “And that’ the truth”. Phlaaaa. The show was even better than it was a few years ago
and the South won!
Monday was a different day. Really! The sky was blue the roads were dry and the weather was perfect
for driving. The Tail of the Dragon was clear of Smokies, and I don’t mean the bears, so we “drove ‘em
like we stole ‘em. Mary took over REDRULS, again, and got a “LADY DRAGON SLAYER” patch for her
club jacket.
Page 10
It was fun being the “Tail” of the dragon on this trip and trying to keep up…. I can’t thank Karen enough
for putting this one together. Well done, Karen. It was a great ride, well planned, and as soon as it
stopped raining, we had fun.

Top Tier Detergent Gasoline
TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Seven of the world's top automakers,
BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz and Audi recognize that the current EPA
minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.
Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in 1995, most gasoline marketers
have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the
ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits
which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.
These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. That's something both drivers and automakers want to avoid.
TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.
In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.
Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.
