Welcome
Dear Friends, On behalf of the Christchurch Civic Music Council it gives me much pleasure to welcome you to this evening’s concert “Festival of Voices”, featuring many of Christchurch’s vocal groups. Over the past four years, the Christchurch Civic Music Council has run three concerts in the Horncastle Arena celebrating music making in the city and its surrounds and seeking to strengthen our musical community through shared participation in a concert featuring many voices of music. “Festival of Voices” showcase thirteen vocal groups from within and around Canterbury, who have been busy fine-‐tuning their performances with a mix of traditional and contemporary music. The contribution of these groups to the fabric of the musical activity of our society is substantial and gives us real cause to be proud of our musical diversity in our region. Congratulations and thanks to the members of our organising committee for the monumental effort each one of them has put into creating this event. A special thanks to Musical Director Ravil Atlas, to Event Manager Howard Harvey and to Compere Margaret Austin. I would also like to congratulate the many performers involved this evening. I am sure this will be a night for you to remember. Our thanks also to the many conductors and group leaders involved. Additionally, our thanks go to the many sponsors who have supported this event, in particular our major sponsors Creative New Zealand, The Canterbury Community Trust, Pub Charity and Mitre 10 Mega. It is because of their assistance that this event has been possible. We invite you to relax and celebrate Christchurch’s musical diversity. We trust you enjoy your evening with us. Graeme Wallis President Christchurch Civic Music Council

The council runs the National Concerto Competition and supplies pianos and a harpsichord for concert venues as well as offering assistance to scholars through sponsor and scholarships. The CCMC spearheaded fundraising to install the iconic Rieger pipe organ in the Christchurch Town Hall. Recent concert successes have been the John Ritchie 90th Birthday Celebration the Voice of Music and Celebrating our Musical Diversity.
