The Surefoot EffectHow oten do we give ourselves time to refectand explore; to discuss with others our ears andaspirations?

Our dangerous idea is that refection timeshould be built into any new endeavour. Inour work at The Sureoot Eect with CarbonConversations, Common Cause and Non-ViolentCommunication, we create sae space or peopleto develop awareness, belie and condence totake the next step toward sustainable, equitableliving and working. Each o these techniquesprovides time or people to refect, discuss andthen plan and implement change. Change ishard primarily because we try to do it whilst still

doing the very thing we are trying to move rom.Space and time are needed to allow the changeprocess to take place whether it is internal orexternal. Taking time out to refect or discuss withothers beore acting may seem an unnecessary

luxury in these busy times we live in, but ourobservation is that taking this time makes changeeasier and longer lasting.

A non-violent lie requires time and space toreect and to be aware o your emotions andneeds. Verene Nicholas, NVC teacher andpractitioner.

TestTownTestTown 2013 is a new idea or helping youngpeople to re-imagine the way that we use HighStreet spaces. TestTown is a competition that is

allowing the contestants the chance to put theirideas into practice by taking over a town centrespace.

The main dierence though between this and themyriad o other competitions to encourage youngentrepreneurs is that all the resources developedas part o this competition will be open sourceand available to anyone who would like to runtheir own TestTown.

We would like to think that this would help reduce

the amount o money that is spent on settingup websites and entry systems or competitionsthat could be used to support more entrants andinnovations.

We would also like to suggest that these types ocompetitions should be aimed at those young toenterprise and not just biologically young. Please

join us to discuss these issues.

    6. Angus CollegeDiversity is a benet, not a problem. We takethe notion o mixed ability and mix it a bit moreto enable learners to work with others in teamsrepresenting any curriculum area and level. Co-

operative theme days take students rom acrossthe whole college to work on a specic themeleading to a product and presentation.

This years co-operative learning day; Alice inWonderland brings together students romSocial Science, Catering, Land based, Art, Hairand Beauty and Construction. The levels o thestudents are rom Intermediate 1 to Level 8 HND.Teams contain a student rom each curriculumarea.

Each member o the team is issued a resourcecard which deals with an aspect o the task inthis instance ranging rom the role o literaturein socialisation to intertextuality to imageconstruction. Prior to the event, all studentsare issued a booklet with images rom Alice inWonderland, key points and acts about the story,

and links to YouTube clips although they are nottold what their task is.

Students then progress through a series o

structured tasks involving negotiations, meetings, role allocation, resource sourcing, locationnding etc in order to construct a tableaux whichreerences a key scene rom the story. During thisactivity each student member will provide theskills required rom their subject area and assistothers to undertake activities related to this skill. The tasks are written to ensure that all studentshave the opportunity to be an expert during atleast one stage o the process. Teams must recordtheir progress in the task via lm and still images

and these, along with a presentation o how theymanaged the task and the nal tableaux , is theirnal group task.

Youth ScotlandYouth Scotland provides educational and socialopportunities to young people throughoutScotland using a youth work approach. A youthwork approach recognises the skills and abilities

o all young people and builds rom where youngpeople are in terms o their personal development, interests and experiences. Youth Scotland hasset up a ground breaking and successul projectworking with young oenders in Cornton Valewomens prison which owes much o its successto this approach.

Youth Scotland believe that a Youth workapproach builds the capacity and condence oyoung people to consider risk, make reasoneddecisions and take control. This approach is

demonstrated in youth clubs, cas, drop-ins andgroups throughout Scotland where young peopleare given opportunities to try new things, developtheir interests, meet new people, travel outsidetheir communities, and are supported to designand run their own projects.

The Youth Achievement Awards run by YouthScotland oer young people the opportunity to

gain recognition or their achievements, whateverthese may be.

The best thing about the programme was

working with other young people and beingoered new and exciting opportunities. I learnedhow to develop my communication skills betterand enjoyed the eeling o achievementKim, aparticipant on an Involvement Training Residential.

I all young peoples education used this approachwhat dangerous things might happen?

Youth Scotland is the network o youth clubsand groups across Scotland. It is the largestnon-uniormed youth organisation in Scotland

and delivers quality youth work programmes, resources, training and support to communitybased youth work across Scotland.

Sense over SectarianismIgnorance is the riend o Sectarianism!

Our dangerous idea is to challenge the mythsand present the acts. With the help o Glasgow

school children who have studied the topic osectarianism at length, Mark S Adams o Senseover Sectarianism will present a series o perceivedacts (or as we know them better, myths) andpresent the actual acts to our audience!

The challenge to the audience members is totake these acts with them back into their everyday lives and whenever presented with a myth, present the act to bust it!

I our dangerous idea is successul we willcommit to busting a new myth, based aroundsectarianism, every week and we will challengethe public to spread the truth.

The aim o our dangerous idea is to help tosignicantly reduce sectarianism across society inScotland.

Challenge sectarianism by challenging myths andpresenting the truth!

Young ScotOur dangerous ideas come rom Young People! As part o the Young Scot Rewards programme(which rewards young people or taking partin positive activities) we asked young peopleto come up with their ideas or improving theeducation system, and this is our selection o thevery best. Our over-arching dangerous idea is thateducation providers must co-produce educationservices with young people.

Young Scot is the national youth inormationand citizenship charity or Scotland. We provideyoung people, aged 11-26, with a mixture oinormation, ideas and opportunities to help

them become condent, inormed and activecitizens. We do this in a variety o ormats, including books, magazines, online, phone, etc,so young people can access inormation in a waythey are comortable with.

It is our hope that the inormation we provide willenable them to:

Make inormed decisions and choices Turn their ideas into action Take advantage o the opportunities available

to them in Scotland and the rest o Europe Have the condence and knowledge to

take their place as active citizens in theircommunities - locally, nationally and globally.
